    Newcastle Utd v Liverpool fc

So after the bread and circuses of Luis Suarez bite maybe we can do some actual football chat

I'll leave to a Magpie to give any insight as to their likely match day squad I'll just note that after Sunderlands victory at St James Park they should be looking to make amends in front of the home crowd.

Liverpool are on a 3 game draw sequence and a general ennui is in danger of settling over the side with nothing of importance to play for really. So if todays result split the points no one would be surprised I think. With Suarez out a chance has opened up for one of the youngsters to come on as a sub - hopefully Suso, it would be good to see him back in for the rest of the season. The starting 11 pretty much picks itself.

With Newcastle just hovering above the relegation zone and looking nervously to the sides below them this should be a very interesting match. A win will take the Magpies up to 40 points and almost mid-table. Liverpool with three draws in a row will want to win today and finish the season strongly. They will of course be without Luis Suarez who begins his ten game ban.

Game is live on ESPN. Team news to follow when available.

    Its a test of coolness.

Newcastle and the crowd will be very fired-up for this.

I hope Rodgers can get our players into a similar mindset, otherwise I see a Newcastle win.

    Difficult one to predict.

    I'll go 1-1 draw.

Newcastle will be happy enough with a draw. It does them well enough in the relegation battle

    Newcastle's price is too big.

My thread, started first with an obtuse title got merged with your more prosaic thread! :)

It will be tough going without Suarez. Time for Borini to step up and Sturridge is a guaranteed starter today. 2-1 to Liverpool I think.

    A nothing match.

Could go any way, whoever wants it most, which will probably be Newcastle in front of their own fans.

Same starting XI from last weekend except Sturridge starts for Suarez.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,473 ✭✭✭✭Super-Rush

    Borini on the bench.

In a weird sort of way, I'm looking forward to seeing what we can do without Suarez. So much of our attacking play is based around giving it to Suarez and see if he can score. It will be interesting to see what happens without him.

    Opr

Pardew playing 2 holding midfielders and leaving Gouffran and Ben Arfa on the bench, Pardew is proving yet again how much of an absolute idiot he is coming to team selection and tactics.

newcastle have packed out their midfield, really gone for our soft spot. could get slaughtered in there

Surely Stevie G should be rested for most of the remainder of the season. He's played a lot of games in the last 12 months.

Doesn't depict the full picture obviously but the win % with vs without Suarez is interesting, similar results to when the Gerrard one was trotted out in the past.

Up for Newcastle today, want them to be safe before the last game of the season against the Arsenal.

Ridiculous team selection again from Pardew. 5 in the middle against a spluttering Liverpool side without their key player. Persisting with Jonas who has had an abysmal season and is playing the worst football of his season at the moment.

    Strange looking selection alright.
