They’re on in Dublin and wherever 104.2 is coming from (audible in Dublin just about).

Didnt hear much pirate activity in Dublin earlier. Weak signal on 91.6 playing dance tunes which I’m guessing was Phever. Didn’t get to hit MW.

Hearing them in Dundalk on 104.2, 99.4 and 105.2, strength in that order.

Christmas FM was testing on 99.5 Bray/Greystones yesterday. Great to hear it back on air.

I could pick it up weakly last night on 99.5 around south Dublin, but coming in strong on 105.2, the Dublin frequency.

106.7 87.7 105.0 had the test loop come on last Thursday night , I heard these 3 frequencies whilst travelling in the south of the country last Thursday night after 10PM.

Christmas FM got a good bit of TV publicity at the end of Virgin Media 1 News at 5:30 yesterday Sunday (at the very end after the sports news) with interviews with some of the people involved. It is up on the player for the next few days for anyone who wants to see it

Long-standing presenter Keith Shanley, co-founder Walter Hegarty and an unnamed female.

studio change this year for Christmas FM. Though I assume a lot of presenters do their shows remotely?

Wonder why the PI code is different on the Louth frequency (2C04) compared to all the others (20C4). Surely the BAI are supposed to check these things

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 571 ✭✭✭kazoo106

Not to mention the radio text on 99.4 which says "NOVA NOVA NOVA NOVA NOVA"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61 ✭✭fmfan

104.2 from Louth seems to be a lot weaker this year in terms of coverage.

Still not picking up a FreeDAB signal. Hard to tell if it’s actually off or just weaker than before.

    Anyone getting it in Dublin?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,520 ✭✭✭StreetLight

Lately, it seems to be switched off during daytime and back on during nights and weekends.

I don't remember there being a separate Louth transmitter other years. I used to hear them in Dundalk on 99.4 from Cavan.

The audio on it is Lovely and easy on the ears - the RDS is a complete mess though, the 104.2 wont enter any AF list as the PI code is different to all the other TX's (was the same last year) - this must be a Typo. The Nova Nova Nova Nova on 99.4 is also quite funny !

104.2 was a new addition last year. 104.2 used during the rest of the year by Storm North East of course

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 14,774 Mod ✭✭✭✭marno21

No switching issues here in the SW though I do remember a few years ago 105.5 and 106.7 wouldn’t switch between each other so this must have happened before.

The RadioText is very varied, 87.7 is “test”, 105.0 is “Ireland’s Christmas station” and 106.7 is “The Magic of Christmas”.

On a related note, does anyone know what they do with the 20 medium to high power transmitters for the other 11 months of the year? I know some of them are used for other temps (Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway) but there are plenty of others (Kerry/Clare/North Cork) that are pretty hefty rigs.

Well done to all - PI codes now fixed

Ode to the power of boards !

Storm North East is now on 102.4, almost as strong as Xmas on 104.2. There is a Cavan station called Misty Mountain Radio which uses 99.4, but I don't know if they share with Xmas.

The Dundalk pirate has gone silent for a few days, after a long stint on 3905 kHz. I did hear them briefly on 5200 kHz.

102.4 has it by about a 1dB margin at this location (Northern Mid Louth)

Update on the Caroline website 03 Dec 2021. I think this is the first time they have given the power of the new transmitter 4 kilowatts.

getting two weak pirate signals on 107.1 and 107.2 in Stillorgan, South Dublin. Both playing dance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 111 ✭✭SATNAV

Also picked up 107.2 ( radio locked on) no RDS and seems to be mono , audio ok .

On the way to Bray from Carrickmines they were actually playing the Jam song ( so must be a pirate ) 😀

I See 94.3FM were relaying Real FM Spain today

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,715 ✭✭✭Declan A Walsh

While driving between parts of Wicklow and Dublin yesterday, I picked up Christmas FM on 105.2, 99.5 and 106.6 at different stages. All tie in with the frequencies list. Very briefly near Oldbridge, which is between Lough Dan and Roundwood, the frequency came up as 94.2. When I looked up the list, it tells me that 94.2 is for Longford. How did that happen - is it being used for some other area but not mentioned on the list?

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 14,774 Mod ✭✭✭✭marno21

94.2 is Cairn Hill, previous years was 101.6. It gets out quite well being a prominent RTÉ site so it was likely that one.

The 101.6 outlet in previous years was receivable clearly in parts of Limerick for comparison.

LMFM 95.5 has been on a carrier for a few days, before this outage it had no RDS.

UCB Ireland Radio now on Saorview since yesterday, appears on 211 on most receivers.

Wonder if they would have any interest now in taking over 549kHz MW if its the case Spirit has given up on it (has been off the air for several weeks) ??

549 was of course originally used for the unlicensed AM relay of UCB (UCB UK, before the Irish variant existed) several years ago

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,715 ✭✭✭Declan A Walsh

UCB Ireland are also on Virgin Media's digital radio options and have been for some years now. In relation to 549kh, are you implying that they would use it as a pirate, in the way UCB UK used to be relayed before? Otherwise, they would have to apply for a license and I cannot see one coming up for MW again. Incidentally, I knew that UCB used to be relayed unlicensed on FM, but I don't think I knew about the AM relay.
