    Hi,

I have cured one problem with my shoulder by shoulder squeezes and arm raises. I started with no weight and now use a 3kg weight. I'm delighted with the results.

However, I am(or maybe not anymore) doing lat pulldowns and now I've aggravated on old injury in my lower back, I was told the lat pulldowns could be the cause of this, has anyone else had any similar problems with lat pulldowns.

I have been told two different things from two different gym instructors, one says not to do the pulldowns anymore and the other says work through it, I however am now not able to function with the pain and can't do them anyway.

Maybe no one can help, but I'm just throwing it out there, I got some answers on two other threads here about some of my questions but I guess what it comes down to is one thing..

When do you know whether to push through the pain or leave it alone.

If it's painful then stop. When they say 'no pain no gain' they really mean 'no uncomfortableness resulting from fatigue no gain'.

Push through? If you're not able to function after then that gym instructor is an absolute moron.

Go see a reputable physio/ musculo skeletal therapist, get yourself sorted with rehab before you make the problem worse! By the sounds of it you y should then get a few personal training sessions with proper instructions & a proper plan made up for you to avoid these problems! No one on here should advise you any different as they cant assess your back, form etc.

    Thanks.

I was paying for semi personal training sessions in a very reputable gym and the guy would not listen to my theories as to why I thought my lower back injury was playing up.

After a trip to the doctors this morning and being signed off work, I really don't know where to go. I thought I had found the best guy for the job.

But yes, it's back to the drawing board and back to a rehab physio I used before, It's judt the frustration when you're doing all you can and think you're choosing the right person. I've seen a lot of cowboys through the years, I hope I'm done with them now.

Thanks again, onwards and upwards I guess......eventually.

Honestly your better off figuring out what you need to do by yourself on this one. Especially if you have an injury you don't want to aggravate. Its your body and you know it best.

You need to work through/around and injury with a physio who has the qualifications you need, not a personal trainer.
