Gym Instructor classes (N.Ireland)

So after a few years of talking about it doing various admin jobs etc, I've decided I might as well actually do it.

Basically I'm looking to get that initial qualification that can get me into working in a gym environment. I live up North so preferable to do it up here, travel isn't a problem but Belfast would probably handier than Derry for me.

The idea down the line will be to boost up that initial qualification, but for now I'm after that basic qualification that will let me get the foot in the door and experience.

I'd be the type to prefer to take time off and get it done in a set time which led me to here and this two week course. I've already had my four years at Uni so going back to do a year long College course doesn't interest me.

Was wondering if anyone had any experiences with this company or course, or recommend an alternative?

    Thanks.

    Hi uuj.
I did my gym instruction through belfast metropolitan college and found that course extremely good and was very impressed with it. i did a few side courses with Lia and they were grand but didn't find them as good as BMC.

    Thanks for the reply Paddy,

Took a look at BMC there, I wouldn't have thought of them mostly because I thought they would be year long classes, they've nothing really short term over the two weeks like LIA though.

I'll give them a ring tomorrow, see what they've got to say sure.

They do short courses too. The gym instructing is a one week programme you can look for it here. http://www.belfastmet.ac.uk/CourseSearch2011/CoursesBySubjectArea.aspx?subj_area=031

Yeah got a look at those, certainly a viable option if I decide to wait. The LIA folk seem to have a decent rep though so I'll be going with them, they've got their courses all coming in the next few months too.

You really need to look at the qualification that you will receive at the end of the course ..because that is what your future employer will look at. As a former gym manager i wouldn't even read past a 2 week qualification. Look at a course that is hands on and offers a min of 50 hours of tuition/experience which, if it is part time should take around 5 months. Choose wisely - it'll stand to you in the long term.
