Calories in a 3 in 1 from the Chinese?

    I'm feeling really guilty, I've had exams all week so I've eaten dinner from take aways 5 days in a row! Feel like crap my stomach is not happy. Had 3 in 1s three days. Just wondering how many calories would you think would be in a typical 3 in 1, fried rice, chips and plain curry? 1000?

    I'd say between 1,200-1,500 depending on exact size.

    eh..Chinese is probably the worst take-away my stomach would be in bits if had that many takeouts..

    I wouldn't care about the calories if I was you you, theyd be full of crap and bad for you in all sorts of ways...

    just have a really really healthy week next week to get you back on track. simples:cool:

    never mind the calories think of all the salts, sugars, chemicals gone into your body :(

    I know your busy with exams but surely you could have taken 30 Min's out of your day to cook something up. Loads of healthy tasty dinners that can be cooked in under 30 Min's. Keep that in mind for next time ;)

    and next time you want to eat a 3in1 again, remember that sick feeling you had when typing your post and I bet you won't want one :P

    One of the best things I adhered to when doing my final year exams in college was eating a good diet during the weeks of study prior to the exams and during the exams themselves. I had better much, much better concentration when studying and doing the exam, I didn't get the slump that usually accompanies eating a crappy fried chicken roll from a deli counter or some other takeaway during the day, my stress also seemed to be reduced significantly in comparison to other years (I can probably attribute this to being a lot more prepared though and sticking to better habits like getting to bed early, and setting times that I would start studying and when I would stop and strictly adhere to them). Exams are difficult enough as it is without feeling like crap due to the diet some people eat during times of study!

    I know this reply had nothing to do with the calorie content of a 3 in 1 but since it's exam season I imagine there's going to be a lot of people flicking through the forum who might heed some of the advice.

    RELAX, doesn't matter how many cals - you've eaten them now, just take it easy and have healthier meals next week.

    Im going to say a lot. As a rough guess 1000 cals minimum (there are around 500 in the rice, small number of chips but still at least 3-400, and sauce is probably 300 too)
    There would have been better options in the takeaway. All the meal choices wouldn't be great, but if you must eat a takeaway then something with vegetables and minimal sauce would be better.

    The portion sizes are the real problem tho, an average rice portion in a takeaway is double (at least) of what you should eat.

    You could choose something like chicken with ginger and spring onion, has a lot of veg, minimal sauce. chicken with green peppers etc. Get a side of veg instead of rice and that meal isnt that bad (compared to a 3in1)
    If you must take rice with your meal then eat a half portion, keep the remainder in the fridge and reheat for the next days Chinese.

    admittedly it'll be a little more pricy then a 3in1, but not that much more. and will be way less calories and youll get some fresh veg in you. not just chips and rice carbs.

    Dr Socks is right, exams are the time when you need your diet to be spot on, you ll need to be on top form to get through them and a crappy diet will just make it worse.
    Not to lecture with hindsight, as I remember what exams were like, you could take 15-20 mins a day to shop, cook and eat a healthy meal with a bit of planning. which will probably be the same time as heading to the Chinese, waiting and eating the 3in1 on the way back home.
    Hopefully its over for you this year, and wont have affected you too badly.

    I estimated a small one to be 700-800kcal in this thread, I also mention other things I estimated

    Did you work out the difference between large and small? I assumed large so figured 1000 cals+
    Large, i guess is 50% bigger than the small at least.

    Pretty sure most Chinese people eat "real" Chinese food, not the fast, cheap, quick and easy chemicalized sh*t that's used in most Chinese dishes in the takeaways/restaurants here :rolleyes:
    Plus I doubt their dinners only consist of 3 in 1's. As mentioned above there are a lot healthier Chinese dishes.

    Eat in a resturant every day in this country and you will get fat too.

    the difference between restaurant food and home food is the same in both countries.
    Takeaway food is slightly more westernized, as Chinese will eat a lot of food which wont sell in or countries, (chicken feet anyone?) but its basically the same.

    I lived and worked in a takeaway when I was a student, my friends family owned it. So i ate Chinese takeaways daily, off the menu. and while it wasnt a great diet i was healthy (ish) and fine. I still cook the same food (with my own tweaks) that they taught me to cook.

    I cant say for every place as they will all be unique but in this takeaway they grew most of their own veg, shipped in meat fresh daily. (thinks like duck would be every 2 or 3 days as it never sold as often and took longer to make) Rice was cooked and kept in the fridge for 2 days (boiled rice needs to sit for a day anyway before you can fry it properly).
    Nothing was in the place longer than 48 hours, which is less than most mainstream restaurants. Oil was used for 2 days or so iirc.

    The family would eat together and I would get something from the menu. They eat a lot of fish, that's why I would eat separate as I cant stand fish.
    The odd chicken foot was eaten, but nothing really unusual. I assume that the really weird stuff only comes out on special occasion, or from the poorer parts of china.
    Which, if you think about it, is the same here only the rich or the extremely poor eat the gross food. snails and pigs feet spring to mind.

    Ya I suppose it's not really the calories I should be worried about, as I don't eat much anyway and I am not overweight. The days I had those take aways I'd only eaten a small breakfast and then nothing else so still stayed in my recommended calorie range. You just feel so ****ty after eating them. Anyway I'm finished college now so no more takeaways for me for awhile. I don't generally eat takeaways that much anyway was just that week.

    that's exactly why I gave up takeouts.. well not completely unless I was extremely hungover and couldn't make anything but that's very rare.. but I cant remember the last time I had one its been months! that ****ty feeling just aint worth when you can make a much nicer meal that has you feeling great after it
