Based on the route descriptions and distances quoted on the entry form, the following are my best guesses. The only one I'm a bit iffy about is stage 4. The ITT route is correct, although the exact start/finish points may be off a bit.

    Stage 1: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2383257 (2 laps A4, 3 laps A2/A3)
    Stage 2: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2383363 (ITT)
    Stage 3: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2383270 (3 laps A4, 5 laps A2/A3)
    Stage 4: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2383300 (3 laps A4, 4 laps A2/A3)

Whinge: Why the hell don't host clubs make the courses for their races available? Any idiot could plot out a route in RideWithGPS or MapMyRide. It took me all of 20 minutes to do this.

Stage 4 is wrong. Keep right at 2 and next left until it hits the N72.

Thanks. I've fixed that now. I found a GPS trace from one of the lads who did it last year.

I'd say theres no problem.Give Dan Curtin a ring and give him your details and I'd say you can pay on the day.Entries normally close just before stage 2

It's the Kanturk 3 Day. Expect today's results on Monday. :P

Kanturk Stage 1 over, was a great race with loads of attacks and reeling them in,then one attack got away and stayed,it had 6 lads including a Carrick a2 rider and Stephan Murrey a2 from Dungarvan,Stephan got 4th :-).

Being at the front was fun all day, especially watching the tactics with NRPT & Munster team going at one another, they where not much lads at front willing to do their turn and a few vented their anger at them, but this is racing I suppose.
Coming into town to start last lap we where lined out, myself,Meade,Dunbarr,Foley and few others when me chain dropped
and I had to pull over and fix it as the pelaton flew past, had to bury myself to get back on took around 8km of hard spinning but was worth it,got my breather and travelled back up towards the front, the lads at front where really working hard to claw back the 1:05 the breakaway had, coming into last corner,Dunbarr attacked then Meade followed,I followed Meade and Foley Jumped on me.Then Meade jumped Dunbarr and I could'nt go with him (chasing back on after mishap took alot outha me),Foley Jumped around me and I think Meade got up then Dunbarr and then Foley, I just wheeled in then with the bunch finished around 30 sec's off leader I think.

Sick over the chain dropping but these things happen.

Someone got a blowout going over the line, two people went down, I went into the bikes and came down. I was going great, could have done well (and got upgraded) in the sprint but I didnt have a gap to get through - the two lads in fron started leanimg into each other.

Bit banged up, but ill survive. Wont make it out tomoorow tho. Did destroy a pair of boards shorts tho. My ass was on show to the world :)

Hope the guy who left in the ambulance was ok, looked in a bad enough way. A lot of skin left on that finish line today...Ropey course on the back road!

Well did my first TT,wind caused havoc for me anyway, did it in 13:03 and I am happy with that.

The stage race was pretty good and fast, averaging just under 42kph,a break got away consisting of 12 lads,Blarney controlled the front for most the race protecting their man in yellow for the 1st 4 laps, then on last lap it was attack after attack from guys especially Dylan Foley in the last 5km,at times we thought we would catch the breakaway and they where insight but did'nt reel them in,Munster had two lads in it and NRPT had 1 and they where a few from Cork too.

Coming into last two km they had 5 maybe 10 sec and got to the line before us,with a lad from Cork CC winning from a NRPT rider,so with the bunch gallop kicking off a munster lad set it off and the pace quickened,I dont know who won it,but Eddie Dunbar got 2nd and I sprinted in for 4th with Cian for Munster getting up before for 3rd.

I am delighted with getting 16th overall today and cannot wait for tomorrows last stage, they gona be fireworks all day.

Lenny, hope you are ok, nearly rode over you, but managed to get around you,
Hoping that you and all the rest get over the crashs quickly.

As for the lads that rode up the wrong side of the busy Mallow to Kilarney road for about 8km, neither riding to the front or pulling in only to barely allow cars and trucks past.....

Anyone heading back to Dublin tomorrow with a free bike space? Will travel to collect ASAP. Don't really want to take it back on the train with the ordeal I faced on the way down. Horrendous 'service' and attitude provided courtesy of CIE.

PM me or come find me tomorrow in UCD gear if you can help me out!

According to the results the Cat4s have averaged approx. 1kph faster than 2&3s after 3 stages. Could this be correct I wonder?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,460 ✭✭✭lennymc

It was quite fast - we did the 3 laps in 63 mins. Strung out from the start without the usual 25 kph dawdles that are normally in.a4 races

@dko - cheers for avoiding me. Lol. Wont make it out today, shoulder is in bits :(

Anyone heard how the other lad is?

Yesterday the A4 that came 3rd averaged 39kph while the A2/3's averaged just under 42kph,it was same for first stage around 2-3 kph in diff.

How long was the lap. I thought a4 race was supposed to be 57 k. It obviously wasnt. Good luck today pawlie!

No, for stage 3 they had the A4 average speed as 50km/hr which is obviously not correct. Presumably this fed into the overall average race speed.

Well thats my 1st 4 stage race over with and it was fantastic, loved the whole lot,the banter, the speed, the attacks and the tactics, came home today in the bottom half of the bunch, and 3:08 down on leader due to loosing serious time around 2 mins in TT.

Todays race was hectic from the off, attack after attack after attack it was constant, eventually Eddie Dunbarr got away and two lads jumped across to him,at one stage they had 1:05 on bunch but the two lads with him where dropped by him,and then Eddie was reeled in with 10km to go,coming into town was mad,I was behind Eddie and Meade swerved infront off him,I dunno how Eddie stayed on,he clipped out to get his balance back, this slowed us down and it was goodnight Irene then,so I just wheeled up the bunch.

This weekend was not about GC but to see how I could get on with the A2's,Juniors and fellow A'3's in a very competitive fixture,I am very happy with the 3 stages and especially chasing back on to group on first stage after a mechanical forced me to hop of bike for a minute.

Well done to all that raced and all lads that got podium placings in both races.

    Roll on next race day.

Just to be a little bit more accurate.......Eddie broke and four lads jumped across to him. One lad was dropped early. The other 4 stayed out for a long time together with Eddie Dunbar and Denis Dunworth doing most of the work. The other lads chipped in when they could. As the gap to the bunch fell to 25 seconds and the break started the last lap, Denis sat-up to wait for the bunch, while Dunbar pressed on ahead with one other who wouldn't work with him as he was riding for a GC contender (Denis). They were gobbled up 3 or 4 miles later.

Actually just had a good look on Strava. Survived Stage 1 and finished in the main bunch but it took a lot out of me and legs were dead yesterday. On Stage 3 got shelled out the back on the first lap so packed in and went home (quite disappointed I'll add).

Was wondering what it would be like if I hadn't availed of the amnesty and went to A3: for this weekend there was a 2.5km/hr to 3km/hr average speed difference in all 3 stages.
