Leinster are preparing themselves for a possible move to the IRFU's top job by Joe, Mick Dawson says.

Who's your choice? Personally my dream coaching bill would be Jono Gibbs, with Alex King as backs coach.

I'll add more names to the poll if you can think of any.

Wayne Smith. I want another external appointment-southern hemisphere if possible.

Won't come north family reasons. Sick parents I think. Turned down a job with England a few years ago.

Any of the people who voted for Kidney brave enough to admit it?

My money is on [Jackass] and .ak. :D

I don't normally vote on polls but I couldn't hold myslef back from voting for Deccie. I'd love to see the reaction here if Leinster appoint him as Head Coach.

O'Driscoll might be looking for something to do next year ;)

  • What about a mixture?

I'd like to see Gibbes and Dempsey involved.

Dempsey's work with the academy has been really important over the past number of years.

I'd take a setup like this any day.

    Head/Forwards Coach - Jono Gibbes
    Scrum Coach - Reggie Corrigan
    Backs Coach - Dempsey

He's a great player but I wouldn't be pushed about Leinster taking me on in a coaching roll.

John Fogarty is a quality forwards coach too, does Trojan work with the underage leinster teams and sub-academy.

I don't even recognize half those names, and the names I do know, I barely know enough about their skills as a couch. So I picked Declan Kidney/Atari Jaguar

Just for reference here is the current and notable past jobs of each suggested name

Les Kiss Ireland Interim Head Coach, Former Ireland Attack/Backs coach
Jono Gibbes Leinster Forwards coach under Cheika and Schmidt
Alex King Clermont Backs Coach, contracted with Northampton for next season
Girven Dempsey Leinster A Head Coach
Mike Ruddock Ireland U20 Head Coach Former Wales Head Coach
Conor O'Shea Harlequins Director or Rugby
    Richie Murphy Leinster Skills coach

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,906 ✭✭✭jamiedav2011

It'd be O'Shea for me, but no chance at all of that happening.

Next in line would be Smith or Galthie but again no chance.

I'd take any of King, McKenzie or a Gibbes/Girve/Murphy mixture though.

  • Wouldn't let O'Shea anywhere near the Leinster job!

    Complete mis-fit.

Have you seen how Harlequins play rugby!?

Would like to see Jono given a chance at it, then bring in a proven quality backs coach.

Yes but are you as good as him?

They'd probably be up for a nice snooze in the office.

    Cheers for that.

I still don't see how anyone can really know how these guys fair as coaches other than how their teams have performed. Les Kiss is the only one with any negatives, the rest seem like perfect candidates but its impossible for us to really know which is better imo

It seems to be customary for newly appointed head coaches to bring in some of their own staff. I would imagine that he might want to bring Gibbes with him thus removing him from the Leinster day to day work.

I'm surprised, given all the love shown this time last year, that a lot of Leinster fans haven't called for Brian McLaughlin's immediate installation.:p:p:p

Gibbes was at Leinster before Joe, would hope he would remain afterwards.

No problem with jokes, but I just think the double standards is pretty weird.

Gibbs for me with a decent backs coach to come in. King would have been nice. Not sure who else is available.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,636 ✭✭✭✭Tox56

I must say King would be very appealing, I do think we'll need a good backs coach to keep things fresh. Northampton won't be too willing to let him go I would imagine.

Mentioned him in one of the previous threads about this. Wouldn't be a bad choice IMO.

If Dempsey gets promoted I'd like McLaughlin to be involved with the As / Academy.

    Eric Elwood.

Not likely to happen but he's a decent coach who's out of work at the moment that wouldn't cost the earth.
It would be a ballsy decision to appoint him but could pay dividends.

I feel he's genuinely out of work for health reasons.

Being a head coach was killing him.

Ditto. I couldn't help it. I haven't even read the full list!

I was looking down through the list and then I saw Kidney's name. The entire screen around it became a cloud and I could see but one name. I pictured him grinning after a home loss in the Heineken cup, talking about a couple of passes that didn't stick, and the special performance that's just around the corner.

Sorry, I couldn't help it. :D Surely his name should have been last, no? :P

Thinking about it, maintaining some continuity with Gibbes would probably be a good idea.

Would Dempsey be good enough to come in as backs coach?

    Perhaps Nigel Carolan?

  • Administrators Posts: 54,424 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

Would hardly leave our academy to join yours though.

FWIW, I think Mike Ruddock might get the nod. That said, I've no idea who are the other 3 or 4 in the short-list with Joe Schmidt, so my punt on Ruddock may be way off.

BTW, has anyone heard who is on the short-list with Joe for the Ireland job ?

Northampton did their deal with Alex King very early, as they're doing a huge re-org for next year, so I really can't see them letting him slip from their grasp.

Anyone consider yet another Clermont coach - Vern Cotter himself ?

I also hear Michael Bradley's available. :pac:
