State pension contributions

Hi, I know Irish state pension contributions through yearly tax can be used towards a UK state pension and vice verse. My question is, I am moving to the UK (permanently as far as we can tell). Do I need to get a letter from Revenue stating I have 'x years contribution', or when I get to that age will it be sorted then?
