Kanger Protank

Got the Kanger Protank this morning. Really solid, well built bit of kit. Feels robust and weighty and screws together very well.

Vapes pretty well too in fairness......

The draw is a little airy but not too bad. Vaping at 4.4 v using the head that it came with but not sure what resistance it is? Think 2.5 ohm?

Decent vapour and taste is not bad either. Not as good as dripping but I suppose nothing is - apart from that I'd say its the best clearo that I've used....

No gurgles or leaks and I don't think it will leak either.

Anybody who uses Kangers or other clearo's would love this. Huge step up from those. Might even replace my carto tank and Boges for out and about or driving.......

I'm the same - just got it this morning & really impressed.
I've been using Kangers & an Evod up until now & they don't come close to it. I was just getting completely sick of the constant grugling, poxy taste of new Kanger heads & spitting juice into my mouth randomly.

The Pro Tank is a great buy for €14...and comes with a replacement head so should get a while before I need to buy more.

Might add one of these to my next juice order so :)

Using mine all day now and it's working very well. No leaks or gurgles and its really solid. Really nicely built although I might try block one of the 3 airholes to tighten the draw a bit.

I do have to admit that it lacks a little bit of 'bite' or something but I'm comparing to the A7 in dripping mode so they're not really comparable. Maybe blocking an airhole will fix that too.

Are the 2 heads 2.5 ohm? To be fair, I've brought mine up to 4.4v and no hint of burning so its wicking well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 80 ✭✭W0bble5

Sorry Green Hornet, itcomes with 1 spare head. I think 1 is 1.8 ohm & the other is 2.4. That's what the back of the box says anyway!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,305 ✭✭✭Green Hornet

Hmmm.....wonder which is installed with it? I cant find any markings on the spare one. I suspect its the 2.5 ohm thats in there initially.

    Do they use evod heads?
    Lovely looking clearo btw.

I think the heads look similar (as in the same style) but the centre tube is a different size.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 3,793 Mod ✭✭✭✭eeloe

The centre tube on the Protank head is quite a bit longer than an eVod head, but they are essentially the same...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 98 ✭✭rui1000

the centre tube can be swapped to use evod heads on protank and viceversa

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 3,793 Mod ✭✭✭✭eeloe

yeah you can mix and match if you like.

on the plus side, since an evod head can be rebuilt, that means you can rebuild a protank head! ;)

Still something kinda 'weak' about it though....decent vapour and decent flavour, no leaks or gurgling but......it just.....lacks something for me.

That's the fecking problem with dripping.....nothing is ever as good.....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,561 ✭✭✭rickyjb

Found it to be very "weak" with strawberry milkshake but it's fine with El toro cigarillos, probably depends on the juice. I hadn't used it all day and picked it up and there was a tiny bit of juice on the battery connector but nothing like a T3 or evod so pretty happy with it so far.

how does it look on an ego?
is it more designed with provari/zmax etc in mind?

I'm ordering replacement heads for my T2s tomorrow. Kinda on the fence about buying 7 new heads, or one of these...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,096 ✭✭✭Mr. Chrome

Am I missing something here? Is anyone selling heads for these or are ye all planning on rebuilding?

Saw on one of the Irish sites, that heads coming soon, so make your 2 heads last a week or so.

Buy the Protank. I detest clearo's but this is a big improvement in clearo's....

It comes with a collar or sleeve that tapers down to fit an ego battery, I'll post a pic later if you like.

I got my Protank yesterday, and the only small niggle I have with it is the airy draw. Need to stiffen it up a bit somehow. Other than that, taste and vapor production are spot on.

Whoever comes up with a clearo who combines the taste of the Protank, and the draw and throathit of the vivi nova will become a very rich individual indeed!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,017 ✭✭✭colly10

How does the protank compare to a t3?

I think its far better. Clouds of vapour from it, nice throat hit & absolutely no gurgle. It just feels solid. Only draw back for me is the fixed metal tip & a slightly airy draw. But cover 1 or 2 air holes with your finger & its great.

I tried loads of clearos - I'd definitely recommend the pro tank & going to get another few in my next order.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 895 ✭✭✭Dubba

I got mine today and pretty disappointed with it. Getting plenty of vapour but absolutely no flavor or throat hit. Could it have something to do with my battery? I have the basic no twist kanger battery that came with the value kit.

Actually its not just the Protank, the replacement short wick T2 heads I'm using are giving quite little flavour and throat hit too.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,305 ✭✭✭Green Hornet

Yeah, I think it works much better than standard clearo's but I don't really get much flavour or TH either. I don't use it but I put it down to me being a dripper for over a year. It's decent for a clearo but just doesn't do it for me. I still use a carto tank on the move.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,017 ✭✭✭colly10

What carto tank do you use, I'm getting a little bit sick of the lack of flavour out of cleromisers? Would an AGR be the best

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 895 ✭✭✭Dubba

I'm not getting any flavour at all, nada! It wouldn't be anything to do with my basic Kanger battery and the Protanks' 2.4ohms heads, would it?

I use Boges in a Petra tank. The tank is available at Bargain Vapour and is about 12 euro I think. You'll need a punch as well but the tank and punch are a once off. The tank isn't fancy and is not a high capacity tank but suits me fine.

The AGR is a good bit bigger I think.

If the basic battery is not a Twist, it certainly could be part of the problem alright but even on the Twist I don't get a lot of flavour. It's there and it's okay but that's about it. You'll need to be running at the upper end of the Twist voltage for the 2.4 ohm too so a basic battery would be useless I'd imagine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 895 ✭✭✭Dubba

Cheers Green Hornet. I must go invest in a Twist so and hopefully it'll sort out my similar issues with other clearos and 2.4 ohm replacement heads. One other question is the Twist best upgrade, considering that I don't want to spend a fortune?

The Kanger was the clearomiser that came with the battery, not the battery. The batteries are called eGos.

Probably has a lot to do with it, yeah. 2.4ohm needs 4.2v as a minimum for a decent (7 watt) vape really and that battery (if it's non-Joyetech) is supplying 4v-ish for the first half-hour of use and continually dropping until it hits 3.7v (5.7watt vape with that clearo) for the longest period of battery use, until it drops to 3.2v.
If it's a Joyetech it pushes 3.3v for the duration of the battery life, which is a piddly 4.5watt vape.

When heads become available, get the lower-resistance heads, 1.6-2ohms.

    OR

Get the SLB eGo available from thebestshop.eu, goes up to six volts, only a fiver more than an eGo twist but more battery life and much more power available.

It's quite long, probably not gonna be your out-and-about device.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,305 ✭✭✭Green Hornet

Yeah, standard eGo batteries are essentially useless really I think. Just not enough power. The Twist will work fine with 2.4 ohm or lower but will not be any good with anything above that really.

The Twist will allow you to use most carto's and clearo's that are available. You'll see a huge difference. They are longer than the standard batteries though. A 650 Twist is about the same length as a 1000mAh standard eGo and that's grand. Larger ones get really long though....

I only have Twists and I use them with rebuildables all the time. About 20 euro each and they'll last for months and months, maybe even a year or so if you look after them.

Edit: Grindle beat me to it!! Stupid iPhone....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 895 ✭✭✭Dubba

Thanks for clearing that up for me grindle, I have the Joyetech eGo-T and I'm done with the piddly 4.5watt vape, so going to order the SLB eGo and I'll be vaping happy, cheers.

    Cheers Green Hornet

p.s. apologies for derailing the thread, just a bit :)

It's a slick machine, you'll be in your element. Set it to 5v and you should be clouding.
The only bad thing I've heard about it is people who've dropped it had to glue the bottom back on. Still worked, but... Don't drop it on it's bottom.

Anybody else know of any other irish stockists having this?, bestshop are out of them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 895 ✭✭✭Dubba

Dam thebestshop.eu don't have them in stock. Know of anywhere else that sell them.

Also have you been out to the vape shop (not real name) in Wilton shopping center? Haven't been there myself but heard they're selling clearos and stuff, so they might have the SLB eGo, probably not but worth a shot anyhow.

got one today, build quality looks really nice was a bit disappointed it didn't come in the presentation style box though.
    Really easy to rewick too.

Got a Protank for my own personal use this morning and i'm shocked at the performance, i thought the eVod couldn't be beaten, but this thing is great.

Flavour is spot on, and it's a little fog machine.

    Kudos Kanger, Kudos.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,305 ✭✭✭Green Hornet

While I've been impressed with the functionality and robustness of it, I was a bit disappointed with the flavour but everybody else seems to love them.

I made a new coil and wick using 4 strands of Andrei's wick/0.2 kanthal and it's transformed it alright.......nice bit of heat and flavour that was missing from the stock heads that I got with mine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,831 ✭✭✭Lucutus

If you were to give the flavour a percentage point in comparison with a dripper, (igo-l, dripper pro, bulli, rda whatever), what would it be?

I tried a couple of different Kanger T2's today after using the iGo-L since last weekend and the flavour practically disappeared (same juice).

Yeah, that was my problem too. After dripping, the flavour and texture from the protank was almost non-existent. There, but weak. The cigarillos was only faint using the original coil but it's probably about 75-80% of dripping on the new home made coil. Significant improvement. Actually, it was a cinch to rebuild........

If you're looking to get a ProTank and you can't find them in stock anywhere Vaperus have them in stock and at a pretty good price too. Noticed them because they also have the K100 mod now at under €40

This thing is great with home made coils. Lovely vapour and flavour and a nice glass tank.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 706 ✭✭✭Drachnien

does anyone know a local site that's getting them in the box, it looked like it'd be good for holding a few bits with the foam changed.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 23,556 ✭✭✭✭Sir Digby Chicken Caesar

think they discontinued the box to keep costs down, that's what pbusardo said in the comments for his review anyway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 706 ✭✭✭Drachnien

darn, as sad as it sounds there were two things making me get this one, the tank that won't melt from ectoplasm and the box that looked like it'd put up with abuse. Ohhh well it'll still answer number 1 :)

    thanks for the info
