this is the warning there will be no on thread warning. Abuse of players or refs will result in a 2 week ban. please show some cop on in your replies

Thought we blew it in the second half when we should have been more clinical

POC should have seen red though and Leinster took their chance so a fair result

What was the final score ? :)

Does anyone remember another derby between Munster and Leinster in which a Munster player got in trouble for making contact with a Leinster player's head with his boot? It was October 2009 and the player was John Hayes. A player whom nobody would suggest was malicious in his career. However that is beside the point! The intent, or otherwise, is of no consequence for some offences. People receive cards for unintentionally taking out a player in the air or tackling illegally. The fact that they did it is important, not whether they meant to do it.

I believe that O'Connell will be cited and will deserve the citing. We will just have to wait and see what comes of the proceedings.

Munster looked tired from the Quins game and Leinster took advantage. A good hard game.

If that kid want to smash his way into the studio to strangle George Hook, let him at it.

    Better team won.

We ran out of steam unfortunately. Great game though

That was a tough game. However, we're back in the mix for a home Semi Final, albeit with more work to do.

I hope Dave Kearney is OK and the stretcher was just precautionary.

The fall out from this one may have lasting repercussions for many.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,599 ✭✭✭ScrubsfanChris

Munster didn't use the conditions well in that second half (besides the 3pt kick)
Hardly ever used the "pick and go" directly of the rucks, like Leinster did up to the try they scored.

It all now seems like a waste of effort, with DOC injured and Paulie possible citing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,320 ✭✭✭Teferi

The most shocking thing in that game is that those pair gave a Leinster man the MOM.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,288 ✭✭✭crisco10

Said it in the Leinster thread, i think the dave kearney injury "helped" Leinster. The long break took the rythm away from Munster, then (maybe after last week) They really struggled to get their groove back.

Thought madigan did well off poor ball, only linebreak in the 1st half and 100% from the tee.

Was impressed with Zebo's "basics" in defense and kick chasing.

I probably will get banned, but think POC's kick was unintentional but incredibly reckless and will probably be punished as such. :-(

Oh, and Owens: shocking both ways.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,339 ✭✭✭Artful_Badger

Good game in the sense that it was heated and very close. Good performances from Boss, SOB, Cullen, Heaslip, BOD and on Munster thought Zebo and O'Donnell were fantastic.

Downsides were what I see as very poor refereeing. Thought Kearney's try was valid. Thought Varley illegally stole the ball for Munsters first and Downey illegally impeded BOD for the second. Also thought POC should have seen red for the kick on D.Kearney and I can only assume he'll be cited and will miss the Lions tour. Shame to see it but it was an absolutely stupid thing to swing a boot at a players head as he's on the ground regardless of his intentions and he should be banned accordingly.

Oh yeah and listening to Donal Lenihan tonight was one of the worst experiences of my life.

  • Thought Keatley, Zebo and O'Donnell had really good games.

Thought Owens had one to forget alright.

Kearney was pretty poor / beaten by Zebo apart from one really intelligent piece of play when he managed to hold onto possession until his pack retreated behind him.

    Think BOD's broken again.

Clermont is in 2 weeks time.

What is the likely ban for O'connell if he is cited?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,906 ✭✭✭jamiedav2011

Absolutely delighted with that win. Could be a big part our season. Have to say, I'm disgusted with some of the reffing. For third time in a row in Thomond, we've seen some major issues with key decisions.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

Decent performance by Munster, they seemed to run out of gas at the end. Great display from the backrow, along with Keatley and Zebo.

Congrats to Leinster, you can't say they didn't deserve the win given some questionable calls by Owens.

Laulala, please stop with the headless offloading. Please.

Edit: Hopefully Dave Kearney is alright. As I said in the match thread, no intent from POC but very reckless.

I was massively frustrated as a leinster fan, I imagine munster fans were too.

Looking at the replay of that video on the other thread:
    1. POC boot did not make contact with Kearney Junior's head because the ball moved away for one.

    2. It was POC ankle/lower leg that hit Kearney's head when you look at it.

Not sure that makes any difference or not, but it certainly was definately accidental and no worse than POC hitting BOD with his knee when they were both on the same team.

going on recent citings, 12 weeks reduced to 56 minutes on good behavior and showing remorse.

Just dropping in, but reading the posts I'm assuming POC's Lions revival might have taken a serious dive?

anyone think that this game destroyed SOB's chances of the lions??

Hayes got 3 weeks for reckless use of the boot. Accidental but quite similar.

    We need POC that day!

if he gets cited, it really be more than 2 weeks.

See a post above about SOB, thought he had a good grinding game. Didn't carry as much though

Nope. He had a great game. As did POM and Zebo. Leinster try all came from a stupid delayed put in to a lineout from Munster. Pretty frustrating.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,106 ✭✭✭andrewdcs

He probably should be cited, hopfully a lenghty ban as a warning not to do incredibly dangerous if not malicious things, then reduced to a few weeks.

he may avoid a citation due to the wierd politics of rugby. think about South africans getting small bans for eye gouging etc. cian healy making it back for 6 nations games and such.

War of attrition. Well done Leinster. Hope DK is ok. Pity POC will be most likely cited.

Will the rabo citing be that harsh though? Isn't the league citing nationally based?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,281 ✭✭✭A-Train

Delighted with win very hard game, thought Leinster were pretty average overall! Boss was good in the 2nd half and once again BOD is the man!

Has to be at the top end of recklessness, I have seen cart-donkeys more considerate where they kick.

Fair play to Leinster on the win.

Somebody said on the closed thread that Heaslip played well, i'd agree, he showed up well there at the end in fairness to him.

I hope Dave Kearney is alright. I hope POC doesn't miss the semi though, i think it was just an accident.

Happy enough that we played well, and i dont think we got any injuries. O'Donnell was good again, as was POM, and Casey which is good, hope he keeps it up.

Was happy with the scrum, Kilcoyne and Archer did well for themselves i thought. They're still very young for props it's a good sign. McGrath didn't get any advantage against Archer either.

He could well be banned for the Lions, kicked DKearney in the head, probably not intentional, just reckless and careless

That's about as hard a fought win for Leinster as I've seen this season. Wasn't pretty but a win is important to keep the home semi alive.

Replay on RTE on the DK incident, , Kearney was knocked out straight away hope he's okay.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

Surely POC's kick was no more than an unfortunate result of a wild fly hack - a thing forwards tend to do or they did in my day. I sometimes wonder just how many posters here ever played/play rugby? Anyway, I found it immensely frustrating game to watch. Also, the previous thread really brought it home to me as to why I will never be a Leinster or Springbok supporter - their 'fans'.

    Lovely.

As for the original point, that's irrelevant.

Players accidentally close line players and get sent from the field regularly. Players often spear tackle someone simply because they lose control of them and are sent off and suspended.

You have a duty of care to everyone else on the pitch.

I'm really disappointed in the panel there. I know they've been pretty one sided all game, bar Horgan, but they really copped out of calling the O'Connell kick in the head for what it was. It was recklessly dangerous and though we'll never know if it was intentional or not, it was absolutely shocking and deserved a red card just for the dangerous nature of it alone. Intent doesn't come into it. All the panel could say was "he was going for the ball". Even Horgan didn't call POC on it, which I'm surprised at.

As for the game, delighted we won - it was a seriously hard fought win against both Munster and the terrible officiating, which was absolutely dire. Sure, there was the occasional call that should have gone Munster's way, but the 4 big calls went theirs, costing Leinster 4 points, gaining Munster 10 and also letting Kilcoyne away with murder in the scrum. But we won, so we can ignore it all, until next year.

Puts us in a great position for the Rabo run in. If we could put the Ospreys out in the last game, that would be deadly - no chance of seeing them in the final ... AGAIN.
