External touchpad with Win 8

Hi All, Hope that this isn't covered elsewhere, apologies if so. I've just got a new non touchscreen laptop with Win 8 installed. A colleague has suggested that getting an external touch pad is the way to go....has anyone any experience of this. Maybe I'm not giving it a chance but I'm not a big fan of Win 8 so far.…

The T650 is silky smooth and feels absolutely rich to use, but its otherwise a glorified trackpad with multitouch. Its not going to be a direct replacement for a touch screen.
