Keeping with the saab theme...I found this on passionford. I wonder would it be alright on vrt. The nct, err sure she'll fly through it :).

    http://passionford.com/forum/cars-for-sale/462997-saab-9-3-1-8t-vector-update.html

Grab it for £1000 + vrt? + nct?

    2002 52 SIlver
    120k
    Full leather
    good history
Ice cold Aircon (not that we need it at the mo!)
    3 months MOT and Tax

Solid looking car, but what would the underside be like?

UK plates + no tax + no test = not bangernomics

Maybe more suitable for the "Today I saw a car for sale" thread ;)

Not only that, the car is a fixer upper. Water pump is shot.

As you say though, forget about UK cars. Much better value out here these days. The one good thing about the recession I suppose :)

Victron stuff for sale, Multiplus-II, Quattro, other inverters and batteries and usually some watches!

    Agreed.
Except the rarer cars, that have sold in so few numbers over here, although they wouldn't be in bangernomics territory

How's it goin. Had a look back a bit but didn't see these. Thinking of havin a look today. I'm sure these come in as bangernomics !

The 99 needs a timing chain tensioner from what I gather off the seller.

August NCT on that ^ nonetheless, would be a grand run around for a bit and could get the money back easily!

I'm looking for one of them, ideally a 3 door tho. There are feck all aeros around anymore the only other one for sale is an automatic for €2750.. the only one before that was up on carsireland for €5900! It was only up for a week I didn't even get a chance to put it in the dreamer thread!!

Hard to figure the value on them. I've been keeping an eye the last while there has literally been a handful put up in the past 5 or 6 months...

Have to say I think it would be a risky move bringing that saab over. To be honest the value in Saabs is just too good in trhis country at the moment to justify the hassle and expense of bringing it in. Added to which it'll probabley have no difference in spec.

Loads of Saabs on bangermonics !! Sound great value but does anyone actually buy them , probably not too many with the tax system in Ireland and the running costs :) Pity really but that is what our taxation system has done to motoring in Ireland , wouldn't like to be trying to sell a big engined petrol car at present.

    That's a Saab 9-3 ;)

Poor ad, not a very desirable car and badly dated looking, but comfy all the same and at about €400-€450 it's a lot of car for your money :)

Yeah I suppose they make sense if you want a comfy car and don't do very big mileage.

The tax on a 2 litre is about a euro a day more than on a 1.3. I suppose it's not a huge amount compared to other things.

It's not really that much but the fuel costs on a 2 litre as against a 1.3 would be significant and again the insurance tyres etc would all be more expensive. Still I like the saabs and the bigger engined cars myself but having driven a 2 litre merc petrol for a year or two the running costs are significantly higher than say a 1.5 modern diesel. Truth is the buyers for these cars are becoming fewer and fewer and the pity is there are some lovely motors destined for the scrapyard:o

If they've proof all that work was done, and assuming that when he puts up the rest of the pictures it's in good nick, then it could be a decent motor.

Not gone on the vRS in red mind, think that model looked best in black or metallic blue.

That model never came in Race blue.

    Red is stunning in them.

If you pay quarterly like me it works out at €200 vs €101 which makes a big difference when its coming out of your account...

*ps I drive a 2 litre and begrudgingly put up with it. I forget about the tax every time I overtake ;)

I'd be jumping up to €280 per quarter for a 2.3 and would find that hard to stomach.. Then again a change of employment circumstances and I'd have no problem paying it -i'd still think its robbery tho...

Yep everyone would like lower tax. But then I suppose big engined cars wouldn't be cheap and you'd just be paying for it another way :)

05 punto, nct to mar 15, 1999 euro

It mightn't be a huge amount but it all ads up. Tax on a 2 liter is €710 per annum and tax on a 1.3/1.4 is €385 per annum which is €325 of a difference. To some people that mightn't seem like a huge amount but to others (like me :pac: ) it is.

More importantly if you tax your car every three months it will cost you €92 euros more on a 2 liter.

Obviously if your happy to pay the tax then there are some fantastic bargains to be had on cars with big engines, but if your trying to spare the pennies that €1 euro savings per week could come in useful for other things.

Yes it's a big difference to me too. By "it's not a huge amount compared to other things" I mean compared to what your average person spends on alcohol, cigarettes, satellite tv ect :)

Bought an '01 9-3 Auto almost 2 years ago, though it's been off the road the last 6 months as my oul fella can't get out of it anymore .

Paid €1050 or thereabouts, new engine fitted in 2008, very fast, very comfortable, utterly brilliant, 100% reliable car. Never regretted it. Very interesting history on it too, decided I'll probably never sell it. Sold too many cars in the past that i later regretted.

Yeah, exactly what I was thinking. There has to be better out there for the cash.
