Lad that came to view my car asked me what my best price for it, €900 says I... No, not what I had it advertise or, what was my best price.
    €900!

    They drive me mad.

What year is the Vectra in your sig? Without a year in your ad, nobody will be interested in buying it.

    My ads on adverts.ie:

Victron stuff for sale, Multiplus-II, Quattro, other inverters and batteries and usually some watches!

I was considering it. But the blank steering wheel, no climate and manual box put me off.

There is loads of them for bangernomics money these days. Just have a look at the last 10 or so pages here. You might as well hold out for one with your spec if you don't mind spending a few hundred more!

I was attracted by sub 1000 price on this particular one. Have now arranged to see another Punto tomorrow.

    520 to a Punto?

You should look at a Saab 9-5, lots of nice examples pop up here.

You're considering buying a manual Punto because a great value BMW E39 (one of the best affordable cars of all time) with that lovely straight six engine is......a manual?

With cars like the 5 series, its nice to have an auto box, whereas with smaller cars manual boxes suit them better.

I appreciate what you are saying, I love auto boxes myself. But I'd rather a manual 6 pot petrol E39 without power steering and hell, even without synchromesh than a Punto :p

    And I like Puntos ...

Lack of climate wouldn't turn me off if the 5 series had manual air con.

In fact im not at all keen on climate - don't like the way climate control seemed to work on every car ive ever been in that had it - not always feeling cool enough. find I can get a nice blast of cool air with manual aircon.

That's personal preference though - I think the idea of climate is that many don't want that cold blast - preferring a "comfortable interior environment and temperature"

Manual gearbox would though (but I certainly wouldn't be buying a Punto over an E39 caus E39 had a manual box) - simply because (to me) part of the attraction of a car like this - is the nice relaxed drive of a 6 cylinder petrol engine - and autobox.

Having to change gear manually takes away some of the fun - in an executive type car

Erhm. Given the weight of the E39 and the power output of the 520i it should be preferable manual. If you want an auto E39, you should at least be looking for a 525i.

A fair point - my brother had a 520i for a short time which used to change up and down a lot due to its relative lack of puff (and possibly how BMW set up the box for "a sportier drive).

Id still rather an autobox - but it wouldn't be a deal breaker if the car was right condition wise

No doubt the e30 won't hang around long and will end up with a 2.5 l6 thrown in!

Shame if it ends up that way. I like the idea of keeping it original, wheel plates and all.!
