That kid better cop on. If he doesn't study and gain a good working level of the Irish language then his future is doomed....

If I'd recorded my mam having a rant at me and it went viral, there'd be HELL to pay.

That kid's gonna wish he'd never been born....

Mine went great. The Fukushima nuclear disaster happened around the same time as it so I'd a great subject to talk shíte about!

Every cloud has it's silver lining, thank you Fukushima!

If he doesn't know what "cad as tú?" means with 6 weeks to go, he's an idiot. Reading doesn't prepare you for speaking. His whole attitude to study is pathetic. I shall enjoy ordering off him at Burger King a couple of years from now.

Wouldn't be entirely sure how to answer "cad as tú?" myself. His mother's Irish is certainly nothing to write home about.

Then what does? School??? You're having a laugh

The fact of the matter is, a vast majority of students despise the subject and it's not their fault. It's these attitudes by the DES "I know it's called Irish Orals but here are the answers to all the possible questions they could ask you - learn them all off and you're a true Irish speaker" "I know you've been learning it for 9 years and still can't speak the language so we've decided the best thing to do would be to give you some poems for you to analyse the character development of"

    I don't blame him.

But she cares, and with an apathetic "too cool for school" myopic prick of a son like that, it would be so easy to not give a fúck. Her frustration was palpable, but she kept at the stupid passive aggressive dolt. She's trying her best with what she has, how ever little that may be, and for that she's a million times more admirable than her lazy-arsed son, whose character is further shown by putting that video up of his own mother. That's a new low.

Even as teenagers go, that guy is a dickhead. As parents go, that mother has more concern and love than most would when faced with such behaviour.

This is hilarious. Thanks whoever posted the link. The Mum clearly doesn't speak Irish and this just makes her more frustrated.:pac:

Doesn't reflect badly on the mum at all, the kid is lucky to have a mother who cares that much about his education

What kind of a f$cktard posts a video of his mother on the internet like that?

I think she comes across very well, someone who actually cares while that spoiled little git thinks he's going to be Johnny Popular with the Loreto girls in the morning.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,113 ✭✭✭shruikan2553

She is over reacting a bit, just needs to learn a few phrases and keep talking crap for however long it lasts, then he`ll never have to speak it again.

 I'd have been killed if I put up a video of my mother! Though it's not something I ever would have even considered. Why would someone do that?? He's the only one who ends up looking bad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,178 ✭✭✭✭NothingMan

If I had have tried this I would have been caught well before it got to youtube...

Ignore this mammy, it's just a... pretend camera.

Wait, YouTube didn't even exist when I was doing my leaving.... :(

Poor Mother, you can feel her frustration, trying to get the message through to Robert.

Best of luck to Robert in his Irish oral, hope he gets the 40%

Cad as tú? Which dialect is that? Munster Irish?

I was always taught "carbh as duit?"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,295 ✭✭✭✭Duggy747

If I did this to my mother I would've been hit so hard with the wooden spoon that a new universe would've been born from the explosion.

Never heard of "cad as tu"even tho I'm from cork. I only learn "ca bhfuil ar do connie"

I'm guessing it's slang, like a dialect sort of issue.
It sounds like it's supposed to mean "where you from?"

    Cad as duit

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 84 ✭✭johnolocher

I think some people do say cad as tú, I don't know how correct it is but I can't see why not if you can also say cad as duit. Personally I say cé as thú the rare rare time I get to use irish

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 894 ✭✭✭Corkgirl18

When asked cad as duit we were told to tell them the general place we're from e.g. Iarthar Chorcai.
When asked cá bhfuil tú i do chónaí we were supposed to describe the town we lived in.

They didn't actually tell you what the questions meant then, no?
