    For me I've learned:
    • Witty people are the best people
    • Reading an argument on a topic that you have no experience of can sometimes be the best way to learn about it
    • Opinion =/= fact, despite some people not being able to cop that
    • Straw man arguments are really annoying
    • Shrews are venomous
    • It's socially unacceptable to remove earphones from a crying girl's ear on public transport

Any pearls of wisdom among ye? Or just some random fact that you only know because of boards? :)

no matter what the subject is, there are always at least two people willing to argue and bitch about it until the death.

Internet polls/opinions have absolutely no bearing on real life

If you have a low post count or are not part of the boards.ie regular poster clique, your opinion is invalid and should be disregarded immediately.

All Nigerians get dole and free cars and prams and phones when they land in the country

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

I've learnt there is a frighteningly large amount of sneaky racists in irish culture.
And I've seen the national obsession with the church and britain.

The forum is pretty large in terms of numbers and there are plenty of people who were raised adequetly, they don't stand out though. They never do.

This...nail on the head. It can be rather amusing to watch the usual suspects here pontificate on the issues of the day. But dare you try to introduce logic into the discussion. Or worse, point out how narrow minded they come across, you do that you will suffer the backlash from the previously mentioned "usual suspects".
