i was researching on the net and youtube and it varys on people saying for bulking you need more carbs than protein and you only need to get 1 gram per pound of body weight or lean body mass..so i decided to try both

i took lots of carbs and 1 grm of protein per pound of bw and i tried per lean bm

i find that if i drop my protein to 1 grm my muscle hardness isnt great and isnt full so i upped it to 1.5 and dropped carbs a bit and kept fat at 20% of my diet and its much better i may even up it more and try and get 300grms of protein a day..

    whats everyones thoughts?

    How much do you weigh?

How many calories are you taking in per day?
And what are the macros broken down into?

2 - 2.25g of protein per kg of body weight per day is more than sufficient.

At 170lbs, even considering the fact you are trying to gain weight, I'd say that's too many kcals.

    170 x 16 (number for gaining) = 2720 kcals per day.

I weigh 220lbs & I'm only consuming 2800 kcals or so (I'm trying to lose weight though)

Is it just weight training you're doing?
Or do you need carbs for other sports?

    I'd try for a C:P:L ratio of 40:30:30 tbh

Just weight training..i used the website freedieting to get my cals and i added another 500 on top of my maintenance to get 3043..maybe i should cut it down..

I have your maintenance at 2380.
Even adding 500 brings it up to 2880.

I don't think you should be going over 3000 weighing 77kg

    Maybe someone else will agree/disagree

Those calculators aren't great at times. Too much variation.

Don't put too much stock in them. Eat around 3000 cals a day on average whilst training and then weigh yourself/measure your body fat after two weeks and from that you should be able to tell whether you need to increase, decrease or stay at 3000 cals.
