    Hi guys,

Just looking for any advice you can give on sealant that can be used on a plastic fuel tank (in a rib).

It's a petrol tank and the seal is for an auxiliary level sensor going in from the top so it won't be immersed, just splashed etc.

Also, any tips from anyone who has installed one (from a mechanical pov) would be super appreciated!

    Cheers!

You could get it plastic welded there are a few companies around that will do it for you and it will be better than any sealant, but if you are just adding a fuel sensor the kit will come with a cork or rubber sealant washer that works fine you can also add some waterproof grease to the washer to help. The kit will come with a float arm that you have to cut to match the size and depth of tank you have, the instructions will give you a guide as to where to cut the arm.

If you do want sealant, I know for sure that stuff called PS890B2 will work for you! We use it for repairs on aircraft fuel tanks, fixing leaks and the likes! Defiantly has no problem standing up to fuel! I'm sure its available on line!

Possibly overkill, but will sort you out for sure!

So.. this one ended up in an unexpected manner.. :D

It turns out the problem in the first place was paranoia on the owners part - and justifiably so, you need to know how much fuel is in the tank with a reasonable degree of confidence..

So, after a bit of siphoning (and, yeah, mouthfuls of petrol..) I manged to re calibrate the existing sender to give an accurate-ish reading with the backup knowledge that when it bottoms out there is still about 15l left in the tank.
