Coming from Rathdowney it's possible that the route will be over the Cut from the south,

The route from the South (the Mountrath side) is definitely my favourite - much more interesting than the Clonaslee side. The only problem with it is the surface on the descent. Mind you, the surface on the Mountrath side was prett bad when we came down it on the Lap of Laois.

Any full route map available for this?

I did this tour last year and really enjoyed it even though it was a rainy day.
There was loads of food and warm soup back in the Gaa Centre:)

This is my interpretation of the maps on the OCC facebook page. It may not be completely correct, but it's not too far off:

In summary: going over the Cut from the Mountrath side (which is the nicer side, imo), losing a few fillings on the way down to Clonaslee and then pretty flat from then on home via Kinnitty and Roscrea.

Yeah that sounds like the route we did last year alright but....that road out of kinnity is quite hilly, I used it over the winter on my monthly 'hilly spin' :-)

We went up the other side on the Lap of Laois. Watch out for a few large holes on the descent. Will hopefully get family clearance for this one too but might be tricky

Definitely a good idea to be off either the front or the back for that descent so that you can see the holes. The last couple of k before getting back onto the main road are the worst.

It is a very demanding course from the Slieve Blooms back to Rathdowney.
It is challenging for the best of cyclists
    Bring it on!!

I went over the Cut from the Mountrath side last weekend for the first time in a long time. The surface on the climb is pretty good; I think they've patched up a few holes since the Lap of Laois. The descent is not technical, but the surface feels like Parsi-Roubaix pavé, particularly at the bottom, which looks like it's been resurfaced recently.

Looking forward to Sunday - just hope the long range forecast is wrong.

Anyone have the profile for this? Might be able to make this all of a sudden.
