    Funnily enough, I absolutely HATE the words 'nest' and 'burrow' when used in a conversation about insects! (not that I have conversations about insects that much, I'm not THAT close to Mr Attenborough - but you know what I mean ;) )

    merge, why on earth is that considered ugly?

    most of the words listed are ugly because of what they imply to some rather than meanings or the word itself being ugly to say or look at. Flange for example is just a building / engineering term that's been hijacked...

    And thing spelt with an Z instead of the proper S is ugly English in my book.
