FM104 Staff Attacked At Easter Egg Giveaway

Unbelievable stuff. The FM104 Phoneshow were out in Blanchardstown giving away free Easter Eggs to listeners. Just before Jeremy and the three promotional girls were about to leave the area, a group of scumbags attacked the staff and the cars.

Some of the perpetrators have just rang Adrian and Jeremy trying to condone what they did. What a disgrace.

Welcome to 2013 Ireland, AKA Lawless Wild West! This is what you get when there is no fear of the Police and Law and Order! It was pretty stupid to give away free things in these working/dole class areas!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 612 ✭✭✭smurfs5

Someone called Derek on now criticising the decision to donate the remainder of the eggs to a children's hospital. Apparently, a child doesn't want an easter egg when they're in hospital and the eggs could have gone to a better place!! Tonight is a real eye-opener into the absolute imbeciles and scumbags in Dublin. Seriously shocking stuff.

Nice sweeping generalisation of an area there.

Did they confirm that the people who did it were actually from Blanch? There are plenty of scumbags around but the shopping centre was mad busy today, could have been from anywhere. Just wondering.

That is the sad reality of modern day Ireland and such acts are shameful and horrible. On a side note that Jeremy fella is insufferable at times and I can just imagine him delighting in telling a host of deprived teenagers..."ok that's your lot.were not giving out anymore as were heading over to the Southside to tell tales of our extreme generosity and alms to the poor".could they not have done the Southside first?ppl prob would have been more agreeable but with such class divide in Ireland at the minute its a bit Irish the way he was rousing up a big reaction for the sake of generating publicity for the show.It was embarrassing how delighted he was with himself for giving a few eggs away.Pathetic really and very condescending.Give something freely without expecting a clap on the back or don't give at all.To condemn a whole area as low level scum because of the actions of one or two individuals is equally shameful.Self-satisfying pretentious attention seeking arrogant nob blissfully unaware of his smug ill-informed ways. That said shame on the teenagers who chose disgraceful violent intimidating choices.

Unfortunately those youngsters had no regard for their peers and were just looking for trouble. A similar incident happened to the Phoneshow team when they did their 2010 Haloween Special in the Hellfire Club. After announcing their location on-air, a group of teenagers made their way up the mountain and started throwing bangers at the team. They eventually had to abandon the show (though this reason was not given on air). This is why last year they did not give out the location of their Haloween challenge so as no-one could turn up and ruin it for them or put them in danger.

In no way should people from disadvantaged areas be described as "lower class sub species" , no body should be so bigoted to say such a thing. And don't make sweeping statements about areas! Many of the Phoneshow's listeners are based in Blanch, and thats why they went there...

Im from one of the "lower class" estates in Blanch and I have no pride in admitting that it was just the hand I was dealt in life and im stuck here for the forseeable future,im also a regular listener to the show .I would never even contemplate engaging in such disgusting activities and the kind of youth involved in those acts I would describe as low life sub species and stand by it as I have to deal with them on a regular basis. Its not the area thats the problem its a small handful of people that ruin it for the rest of us.I could probably count with my fingers the number of people that give my neighbourhood the notorious reputation it has

FM 104 has that sort of audience and likes to cultivate same judging from the stuff I read on the web about certain phone-in jocks.

You do realise these sort of events are completely setup. They want people talking about the station online and tuning in to their scummy chat shows.

I am absolutely disgusted over what happened and I'm delighted FM104 made the decision to scrap the southside giveaway.

How dare those lowlife pieces of sh!te be allowed to treat people like that?
I'm not saying Blanchardstown should be slated because of a minority BUT if you have got an anti social issue there, for God sake get off your ar*e and come together as a community and do something about it.

I'm fed up hearing about gangs taking over areas and intimidating people.
Unfortunately for the people of Blanch, I reckon people, including FM104 staff will stay well away from the area for fear of it happening again.

Seriously, hysterical much? Blanch hasn't been taken over by gangs of feral delinquents. And what did this attack consist of, some thrown eggs, how many, etc, the show is a bag of crap so I wasn't listening or could I be bothered checking out their Facebook.
And for the fools with their middle class areas comments, oddly the only time I had a random glass bottle thrown at me was in Howth.

So you're condoning promotional staff from a radio getting threatened and having bricks thrown at them for giving out free easter eggs? You don't like the show, thousands of people do but it's not acceptable for the staff to be subjected to this when they're just doing their job. This isn't about the whole of Blanch being under attack from gangs but the staff shouldn't have had to go through such an onerous experience.

I'd usually be cynical but isn't this taking a bit far? They've done this giveaway at Christmas and Easter for years and never have they had any problems. Their JNLRs improved in the last quarter so it can't be a publicity stunt. Also, would they really put their staff in unnecessary danger? They couldn't have anticipated this happening and now they won't be able to avail of this positive publicity because they won't be allowed to do the giveaway again. Also, are you suggesting they rang people and asked them to pretend they were the perpetrators? What utter rubbish. They were probably listening anyway and decided to goad Jeremy on-air.

They do this all the time. I know some people that regularly act out on these talk shows basically trolling for listeners.

Badly worded on my part. I didn't mean you're condoning what they did but the tone of your post conveyed to me that you think the Phoneshow were being a bit hyperbolic in saying that it was a disgusting attack on their staff.

Some years ago I was doing work experience and I was in the FM104 studios, basically helping out at the reception desk and I was allowed sit in the studio and listen in to the show.

Jeremy asked me, as I was leaving that evening, if I would be interested in two ticket to the Passion of the Christ and would I come back into the studio the next week and pretend to be a caller giving a review.

I had to sit in a room with a phone and I gave my review over the airwaves, but I was in the FM104 building at the time.

Take from that what you will.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,061 ✭✭✭leggo

Oh it happens a lot, either by design (getting staff or work experience kids to stir it up) or by calling regular callers who are known trolls and getting them to vent, but I doubt this was a publicity stunt. That's not to say that the lads didn't milk it to high heavens (taking time from their venomous rants to encourage people to 'get involved' via the show's Facebook page).

That said, I usually hate this muck, lowest common denominator radio...but last night's show was perversely entertaining in its own way. I was shocked, saddened and breaking my heart laughing at some of the stuff people were coming out with at times on it.

And people saying that Blanch is a disadvantaged area obviously don't know the area aside from what they see on the news: it's a HUGE area with all classes and cultures represented. You can find some of the scummiest and most privileged parts of Ireland within a 10-minute drive of each other in Blanch.

what is it with Samantha, ciara and the strange girl with the country accent phoning in now to every discussion swearing and shouting at whoever. Adrian thinks it is great

these are definitely called in to rile listeners up. Ive listened to the show for years and like listening to it but its the same people every single night -whether it is staged or these people genuinely ring up every night -I dont know

    Jude is another

forgot to add, I dont think last night was staged at all. Adrian seemed very upset and was swearing which is unusual for him. I think it is a good programme and can be as entertaining as tv

racist john voice message is possibly the funniest thing I have ever listened on the radio.

You're guaranteed to get one out of Samantha, Juanita, Jude, Ali (the funniest IMO), Jacinta or Fergal (think that's his name) on per show

I've been thinking the same about Neville/Harry.
Both have the same delayed reaction and slurring and both have the same contraversial views.
Harry (or Neville ) rang up last night saying "Why did you go to Blanch? Don't be going to Tallaght/Cabra/Finglas etc", and Adrian hung up on him.

My point is, I was asked to sit in studio and call in PRETENDING I was a listener ringing in.
I don't think it's "scandalous", I'm merely telling people my story. Chill out.

Any proof on this? I have listened to the show around 14 years now and have txt in various times over the years and have had my txts read out or the switchboard call me back. Ive never bothered talking on the show but it shows that anyone can get on so I dont think it is particularly staged at all

I do think they might have certain listeners they ring up in advance of a show to get them on but I dont see a real problem with this either

Many a time a topic has gone off subject or on a different tandem to teh original discussion, again shows it is not staged, in my opinion anyway

With regards to Jeremy tweeting about this thread -that is a bit childish to be honest, not everyone in the thread is knocking the show- we are just discussing it.

Lastly I dont think I will ever hear anything as funny in my life than the racist john phone call to Jeremy- unreal !!
