With the actual first pick of the AF Forum Mock Draft 2013 the Kansas City Chiefs select

    Kansas_City_Chiefs_logo.svg

    Luke Joeckel, OT,Texas A&M

At 6’6”, 306lbs, Joeckel has all the makings of a future franchise left tackle in the NFL and after starting Left Tackle for the Aggies the past three season's, Joeckel has paved the way for Quaterback's Ryan Tannehill and last year’s Heisman trophy winner Johnny "Football" Manziel. Last year, in A&M’s first season in the SEC, Joeckel has established himself as one of the best Offensive Lineman prospects of the decade with dominant performances against the LSU and Alabama on his way to winning the 2012 Outland Trophy.

    Dion Jordan, DE/OLB, Oregon

With a mere 20.0 sacks dished out in the 2012 season, and 50 allowed to their own QBs, it's pretty clear that the Jags are going to have to address one of these issues early on - forget the smokescreen of nabbing Geno at 2.

I believe they'll opt to sort out the former in the first round of this draft, and with that I'm saying they'll take the Ducks' 6'6", 239lbs pass rusher Dion Jordan. This guy is absolutely explosive and I think he'll have a massive impact on the Jag's pass rush if they take him. He shows great athleticism and hits hard. Medical reports about his recovery from a shoulder injury say he should be ready in time for training camp, so I wouldn't expect this to affect his stock.

Up next on the board is eagle eye for the Oakland Raiders

With the 3rd pick in the 2011 NFL Draft the Oakland Raiders select

    4f73c04804064.image.jpg

    Shariff Floyd DT Florida
I think this has to happen with the loss of Seymour. A guaranteed sure fire hit straight out of college. Raiders need to get the defensive side of the ball right and then they can then work on improving that offense.

The Philadelphia Eagles( taidghbaby) are on the clock.....

With the 4th pick of the AF Foum 2013 mock draft the Eagles choose

    300-eric-fisher.jpg

Eric Fisher OT from Central Michigan

The Eagles have a lot of needs. You rarely get the 4th pick in the draft without having a lot. And to add to it they have changed their head coach, and are also switching to a 3-4 defence. They need cornerbacks, defensive linemen, a QB, probably an outside linebacker, but most importantly an offensive tackle. Jason Peters may not come back (nor be able to play in Chip Kellys offfence) but even if he does Fisher can play RT for a year or two.

next up is Pudsy33 with the Lions

With the 5th pick of the AF Foum 2013 mock draft the Lions choose

    new-lions-logo.jpg

    ezekiel-ansah-combine.jpg

Ezekeil Ansah, DE out of BYU

Luke Joeckel and Eric Fisher would have been ideal pick, but unfortunately they are off the board, so Ansah is next down the pecking order. A raw talent, but one who could turn into a star in the NFL. The Lions are light at DE, especially after the departure of Cliff Avril, so this pick makes sense. The Lion's coaches saw him up close and personal in the senior bowl, and he performed well there. However, there is an element of risk/reward here, as it may take Ansah a while to find his feet in the pros. When he reaches his potential though, he'll be explosive.

next up is Roaldinho with the Browns

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,317 ✭✭✭HigginsJ

With the 6th pick in he 2013 AF Mock Draft the Cleveland Browns select

    DeMarcus Milliner, 6-0/200
    Cornerback
    Alabama

This is a pretty obvious pick with the talent on the board (although Geno Smith could be a dark horse here) Pairing Milliner with Joe Haden would give the Browns potentially one of the best DB pairings in the league.

It might sound strange for a 5 win team but the Browns don't have any glaring needs. This might be a good spot for them to trade down, especially if Eric Fisher was still on the board. The Chargers n Dolphins would surely love him and it would potentially give the Browns back a 2nd round pick

Heffo001 & The Cardinals are on the clock.

With the 7th pick of the AF Foum 2013 mock draft the Arizona Cardinals choose

    arizona-cardinals.gif

    OU-lane-johnson.jpg

Lane Johnson, OT out of the University of Oklahoma

With the 7th pick I had three options in mind; O-line, QB or pass rusher. I think Geno Smith could come into play here but as I made this pick the Carson Palmer deal seemed to be getting closer. If that deal goes through I think Palmer will be a good stop-gap while the Cardinals develop one of the intriguing QB prospects they can pick up in the 2nd or 3rd round. In the end I chose Lane Johnson over Chance Warmack and Barkevious Mingo. While I'm sceptical 3 OTs will go in the top 10 picks come April 25th, after seeing how horrible the Cardinals O-line was last year I figured they could use whatever help they can get. Johnson moved to OT after spending a couple of years playing TE and DE at Oklahoma. One of the thing that makes him such an intriguing prospect is his freakish athleticism at the Tackle position, which he managed to maintain from his days at TE, running an impressive 4.72s 40 yard dash at the NFL combine. Johnson should be able to slot right in at LT for the Cardinals and help an offense that performed horribly last year.

Next up is Kmart6 with the Buffalo Bills.

With the 8th pick in the AF Mock Draft 2013 the Bills select

    Geno Smith, 6-2/218
    Quarterback
    West Virginia

So this came down to 3 options in my mind. Smith, Cordarelle Patterson and Chance Warmack.

I'd pass on Patterson as there should be plenty of good WR's available in the 2nd round (Da'rick Rogers, Justin Hunter, Robert Woods)

Warmack would be a perfect replacement for Andy Levitre but my decision came down to a few factors. I believe Smith is a very good QB, Buddy Nix has talked all off-season about drafting a franchise QB and I don't think Kevin Kolb can be trusted to stay healthy for a full season.

With the 9th overall pick of the 2013 Boards NFL Draft, the New York Jets Select...
    121230152149-jarvis-jones-p11-single-image-cut.jpg
    JARVIS JONES, OLB, GEORGIA

The New York Jets have one of the weakest rosters in the NFL and there are so many issues that they could address here, but I definitely don't see them with their new GM taking a QB or WR here. I expect this to be a rebuilding year for the Jets seeing as they won't be going anywhere without solving the QB problem and that solution just isn't there right now. The new GM won't be taking any risks right away, especially with Rex Ryan as his fall guy if they do end up having a bad season. With the players that are available to them, the obvious thing to do would be to work on their pass-rush. Last season the Jets 5 OLB's that played recorded a total of 62 QB disruptions. Wilkerson and Coples alone at DE recorded 66. Not what you want from a 3-4 defense like the Jets'. To me, the Jets need to go OLB here, and Jarvis Jones out of Georgia is their man.

OAOB and the Tennessee Titans are on the clock.

With the 10th overall pick of the the 2013 Boards NFL draft the Tennessee Titans choose Chance Warmack from the University of Alabama.

    130107110627-chance-warmack-single-image-cut.jpg

The Titans have already began the upgrade of their O-line by signing Andy LeVitre but as one of the few teams who have a run heavy offence the strength of their O-line is huge. Chris Johnson behind a strong O-line will be a worrying site for every defence, they also plan to use Jake Lockers scrambling ability more so bringing in possibly the best player in the draft is a no-brainer. Warmack had a stellar college career and while not putting up huge work out numbers his tape shows him as a special talent that can start immediately. Titans will be delighted that he’s available at the 10th pick and with the O-line upgrade we might well see the return of CJ2K

Next on the clock is Eli Manning picking for the San Diego Chargers (that's a bit ironic)

With the 11th overall pick of the the 2013 Boards NFL draft the San Diego Chargers select Jonathan Cooper from North Carolina.

    uspw_5560132.jpg

The Chargers need to protect Phillip Rivers. This guy is a great pass protector. Obviously the Chargers would love to get a LT here but here I think a good pass protector that has the athletic ability to help the run game is a solid pick. He's quick footed, mobile, athletic and is good at adjusting to counter quick movements. He's effective in the run game to getting to the linebacker or moving inside of tackles. This guy can dominate the run game. It's not a glamorous pick but its a solid one for the Chargers. His smoothness, coordination and quickness really set him aside and as the consensus #2 OG in the draft; I think drafting Jonathan Cooper here is a no brainer in San Diego.

With the 12 Pick of the 2013 Draft the Dolphins select

    Desmond Trufant Washington

    6578632.jpg

I was set to go receiver here, but after signing Wallace and extending Hartline I think the dolphins have more pressing needs, OT is another area of need and if Johnson had fallen to 12 I would have had a tough choice to make.

As it is with Sean Smith leaving in Free Agency I decided to go with a CB. It was a choice between Rhodes and Trufant. The Washington man gets the nod as I'm informed by my dolphin supporting friend that he is more suited to their defensive scheme. Trufant can play both man to man and zone coverage and is the pick at 12 for the Dolphins.

Next up is Lionbacker with Tampa Bay.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 981 ✭✭✭Lionbacker

With the 13th overall pick of the the 2013 Boards NFL draft the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select Xavier Rhodes, CB, from Florida State.

    6823740.jpg

During the 2012 season the Bucs had the worst pass defence in the entire NFL, the major problem been the lack of talent at cornerback & no quality veterans have so far have been brought in during free agency.
GM Mark Dominik has always used the first round pick to fill the biggest need on the team & as Milliner and Trufant are off the board, Rhodes is the pick.
He is a tall physical player well able to play man coverage & excellent in zone coverage too. He possesses the speed and agility to match up with NFL receivers preventing separation. He has also been compared with the likes of Richard Sherman & Brandon Browner from the Seahawks. If he turns out as well as those two, he should become a cornerstone of this Buccs defence for years to come.

    newlogo_display_image.gif?1344347620

    yahoo_starlotulelei2.jpg

DT - Star Lotulelei - Utah

In my opinion Star is by far the best DT prospect in the draft this year and IMO should be going to the Raiders at #3 instead of Floyd, so there's no way I could pass up on him here considering I expected both to be gone and my pick to be Sheldon Richardson.

The Panthers didn't look at DT in the first round last year instead choosing to go with Kuechly, so it's vital they hit on someone at the position in this years first round.

Star is explosive off the snap, has unbelievable strength so much so that he defeats double teams and will slot in and play from day 1 in an NFL defense.

His medical issues have been cleared up now so there's no real worries there any more.

The Panthers are getting someone who has the potential to be as good Haloti Ngata.

On the clock is D3PO and the Saints.

With the 15th overall pick in the AF Boards Mck Draft the Saints select

    Barkevious Mingo, 6-4/241
    Outside Linebacker
    LSU

The Saints are moving to a 3-4 D so need to find a rush linebacker. Mingo is possibly more suited to this than as an end in a 4-3 D. NT Jesse Williams could be an option but would probably be a bit of a reach.

Next up is Phatkev and the Rams

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,638 ✭✭✭phatkev

With the 16th overall pick in the AF Boards Mck Draft the Rams select

    Kenny Vaccaro

The Rams are extremely thin at the safety position heading into this draft with both Craig Dahl and Quintin Mikell gone. Vaccaro is the best safety on the board and might not be there with second of their first round picks with both the Bengals and Cowboys also short at the safety position.

Vaccaro is exactly the kind of versatile defensive back that NFL teams are looking for. he has good size athleticism and balance for a safety, he has a good nose for the ball and is also will able to cover big tight ends which is a must in todays NFL and he is a solid tackler when it comes to the run game.

Up next is JaMarcus Hustle with the Steelers

With the 17th pick of the 2013 Boards NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers select...

    aWabdGa.png

    Bjoern Werner
    4-3 DE / 3-4 OLB
    Florida State

The Steelers would be getting a hell of a steal with Bjoern Werner if he were to fall to #17, as I firmly believe he's the best pass rusher in this draft class.

One of the outstanding defensive players of the year last term, Werner should remind fans of JJ Watt. Exceptionally strong with explosive quickness, what Werner has above others in this class is a simply brilliant football IQ and a great track record of not only pressuring the quarterback, but eliminating any rushes to the left hand side of the defensive line. Particular skills of Werner are his ability to read plays, his change of direction, his ability to drop his right shoulder when evading blocks and his track record of batting down passes at the LOS.

The only issue with this pick is that Werner has played in a 4-3 defence in college, and would have to transition to 3-4 OLB in Pittsburgh. However, this is a role he's clearly ready to embrace as he has been working out as a 3-4 DE all offseason, and impressed scouts by choosing 3-4 OLB drills for his pro day last month. The Steelers have also displayed a patient approach when it comes to bedding in draft picks, so Werner would be given the chance to excel as a situational pass rusher in his first year in the league. The below highlight reel is a must watch.

UnitedIrishman and the Dallas Cowboys are on the clock for pick 18.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,369 ✭✭✭UnitedIrishman

With the 18th pick of the 2013 AF Forum Mock draft, the Dallas Cowboys select:

    Sheldon Richardson, Defensive Tackle, Missouri.
    6'3, 290lbs.

    sports_sheldon_richardson_running_mizzou_football_fumble_recovery.jpg

The three main areas of concern for the Cowboys are at safety, the offensive line and defensive line. With my original pick in Star Lotulelei gone at 14 and then Vaccaro gone two picks later, the best player available for their needs IMO was Sheldon Richardson. The Cowboys need to improve their pass rush and Richardson will undoubtedly do that. He's a fantastic athlete that needs some work and his standout game last season came against eventual BCS Champions Alabama when he had an impressive 14 tackles and 1 sack against the likes of Warmack, Barrett Jones, Kouandijo and D.J. Fluker. He's versatile having played in both a 3-4 and 4-3 scheme at college and Missouri have a good history of producing pass rushers - with the likes of Aldon Smith.

Some mocks have him going much higher than this, so I think it could be a good fit for the Cowboys.

Barbarians and the New York Giants are now on the clock...

With the 19th pick of the 2013 N.F.L. Draft, the New York Giants select Arthur Brown, Linebacker, Kansas State.

    images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQoNmBJoVVi3LntBsJ0G_bySoxKkKLgtD-fiQkGZ8saCDZJ_HB1

    hi-res-6635428_crop_650.jpg?1353791111

    Height: 6'0''
    Weight: 241lbs
    Position: Weak Outside Linebacker/Middle Linebacker

The Giants' biggest needs are at the Linebacker position and at Offensive Tackle. With Joeckel, Fisher and Johnson already off the board I think the G-Men go Linebacker. Even though Dan Connor (formerly of the Cowboys) was signed during the off-season the Giants are very thin at LB so I think taking Brown, who is one of the more underrated players of the draft, makes a whole lot of sense. Brown is very quick with great instincts and is also pretty decent in coverage. His height is a concern and he can sometimes be overwhelmed by bigger blockers but it shouldn't hold him back too much as he has shown in the past while his versatility makes him a very interesting prospect.

Next up is SantryRed and the Chicago Bears.

With the 20th pick of the 2013 N.F.L. Draft, the New York Giants select Cordarrelle Patterson, WR, Tennessee

    772332_t607.JPG

The Bears main need IMO coming into this draft is to improve that go awful offensive line. However, with the top 3 tackles and top 2 guards gone, I do not think there is a pick to be made that could be considered any value than what could be picked up in the 2nd round. After moving away from offensive line, it was between Patterson, Ogletree and Eifert.

With the cutting of Brian Urlacher, there is a hole in the MLB position that Ogletree could have filled. Also, with Eifert still there, he could be a huge third down receiving target for Jay Cutler.

However, in the end, I just couldn't turn down Patterson. The number 1 rated WR in the draft falling all the way to number 20, to a team who has Brandon Marshall and no one else for Cutler to throw to. The dynamism of Patterson could lead to a little less doubling of Marshall, and if that still occurs, Patterson will be able to make the plays that will open up the Bears offense a lot more, after a 2012.

With the 21st pick in the Boards mock draft the Cincinnati Bengals select.....
    Cincinnati-Bengals-Logo1.gif
    Alec Ogletree, LB, Georgia Bulldogs

There are few defensive cordinators better then Mike Zimmer and the Bengals will give him even more talent.
Bengals have a few needs, namely right tackle, safety and running back but I'm confident all of these can be adressed as there is talent at these positions in later rounds.
Also the Bengals have 3 picks in the first two rounds, 21, 37 & 53. Pick 37 comes from the Carson Palmer trade, thank you Oakland!

Vontaze Burfict have a good season but Rey Maualuga was disappointing and lucky to get a new deal so Burfict will move inside and we'll put Ogletree on the outside.

At 6' 3" and 232lbs Ogletree has decent speed at 4.70 40 but we're not asking him to be just a pass rusher, he will contribute as an all rounder.
Excellent coverage skills and will help covering the likes of Dennis Pitta, Heath Miller and Cameron Jordan in the division, he was a safety in his freshman year.
The AFC North is a division known for the run game and 111 tackles in his senior year shows he is contributor and he should be starting Week 1. Bengals play both a 3-4 & 4-3 and Ogletree adapted to both at Georgia

Yes there has been legal issues such as a DUI but this is nothing new for the Bengals franchise and as shown with Burfict he will settle down and mature, Mike Zimmer is a great leader who will help him along.

With the 22nd pick of the 2013 N.F.L. Draft, the Saint Louis Rams select Tavon Austin, Wide Receiver, West Virginia.

    hi-res-155371373_crop_exact.jpg?w=650&h=440&q=75

After strengthening the secondary with their last pick, the Rams turn to offense and take Austin, who surprisingly is still on the board.

The most explosive offensive player in the draft, Austin combines his electric speed with great elusiveness and excellent hands. One problem most young receivers have when entering the league is getting off man coverage, something which Austin excels at.

The drawbacks with Austin are obvious. At 5'9 he does not possess NFL size and could struggle with the intensity and physicality of the NFL. Going up against physical corners as Browner and Sherman will be a huge test for him. However, the likes of Steve Smith and DeSean Jackson have proved over the years that small receivers can still dominate games lining up on the outside in the NFL. Austin was not asked to run many routes in WV, so he will have a job learning the Rams playbook and to run NFL routes.

After losing Amendola and Gibson, the Rams desperately need to upgrade at receiver and give Bradford some weapons, so Austin fills that need. Also with the NFC West having some quality DB's in the division, the Rams need a game changer out wide. What's also worth noting is that earlier in the year, the Rams picked up a small (although not as small as Austin), speedy receiver in Titus Young. Although Young only lasted days, it does show what Fisher and the Rams brass are searching for in a receiver.

Blured and the Vikings are on the clock.

With the 23rd pick of the the 2013 Boards NFL draft the Minnesota Vikings choose Sylvester Williams from North Carolina.

    sylvester-williams.jpg

Having seen both of my targeted picks going off the board in the two previous picks, I went for the next biggest need for the Vikings with a Defensive Tackle. Williams very nearly gave up on football and actually worked in a radiator factory after graduating from high school. A walk-on at Coffeyville Community College in 2009, Williams impressed several scouts in his two years at Coffeyville and eventually transferred to North Carolina in 2011.

A two year starter in UNC, Williams recorded 96 sacks, 20.5 for a loss with 8.5 sacks in his two year.

He will fit in with Kevin Williams at the Vikings to form an updated version of the "Williams Wall".

    jesse-williams-vs-mississippi-state-almondjpg-06785cf520a69c82.jpg

The Colts have been mega busy in FA. The likes of T Cherilus, WR DHB, G Thomas and S Landry have all been brought in. It's like they've gone and addressed most if not all of their needs already. It's like Grigson can go for the BPA in the draft now. Having said that I think they look to the defensive side of the ball for help. They play the 3-4 and for that reason college DEs for me, like Carradine for example are not an option here. Instead I'm looking at the available DTs and LBs. Controversial local guy T'eo might be a consideration. After him though I'm not sure there is a LB worth taking here (I looked at Minter and Moore). You can never have enough solid DTs and for that reason the Colts take Jesse Williams, Alabama.

The humungously strong Aussie with loads of Upside brings much needed beef and depth to the Colts D Line. Pagano could turn this guy into the next Jamal Williams who his brother knew down in San Diego.

Malistheman is now on the clock with the Vikings. He has been PM'd.

So Percy Harvin is gone to Seattle and the Vikes have Greg Jennings. I think a little possession receiver like Hopkins could be useful to give Jennings a bit more space. I think he's a bargain at no.25.

    Keenan Allen - WR
    6-2/206

With Tyler EiFert going to the Pack this is now a very easy pick. Allen is a very talented WR who is working his way back from injury. He will add that missing element for the Texans across from Dre. Going from Kevin Walter to Keenan Allen is some upgrade. Allen had excellent size, good speed and great hands.

With the 28th pick of the NFL Draft the Denver Broncos select

    Damontre Moore, DE, Texas A&M

    50e10a19cc727.image.jpg

This guy is a versatile player. He played in a 3-4 defence as an OLB and ended up with 14 sacks in his first 2 years then he switched to DE and had 12.5 sacks in his final year. This guys stock has fallen from when he was considered a top 10 pick by many analysts due to poor combine numbers. Before that this guy was a top 10 pick. He lead the Aggies with 80 tackles, 12.5 sacks and 20 tackles for loss. At his Pro Day he improved his bench but couldn't run due a hamstring injury. This guy is explosive. While his run time at the combine wasn't impressive he still looks remarkably quick on tape and has great reaction speed. Denver are getting a steal with this pick IMO and after faxgate I think a good rusher like Moore is a good fit for Denver.

The Pats picked up Danny Amendola and re-signed Julian Edelman but they are still very weak at WR (and Brady will need help if Gronk misses anytime) Hunter wasn't his best this past season but his combine performance showed that he may be over the knee injury that slowed him this year. This pick came down to Hunter, Jamar Taylor or Tabk Carradine

With the 30th pick of the nfl draft, The Atlanta Falcons select

    tankcarradine.jpg

    Uploaded with ImageShack.us

    CORNELLIUS "TANK" CARRADINE

Atlanta are very close to being the best team in football, they are explosive on offence but have a few holes in defence. There main needs coming into the draft are defensive end, corner back and tight end. With the release of Abraham I've got the feeling they might be looking to restructure their Defence from a 4-3 to a 3-4 but with no proof of that I've made this selection on the basis that they will continue to play a 4 man front.

Carradine could very well be the best pass rusher in the draft and he fills a major need for Atlanta. With Eifert and Rhodes already taken this was an easy choice. Carradine is explosive off the snap and also has great hands along with a good motor. The only thing lacking with Carradine is his experience, but at pick 30 he's more than worth taking.

Jonathan Banks Defensive Back Mississippi State Bulldogs 6'2 190lbs

With a bevy of draft picks available I'd be surprised if the Niners stay pat and pick for the first time at 31 however it would serve them very well to do so and then use this pick, the 34th selection and try and trade up to somewhere around 40 to fill out their major positions of need.

There aren't any real areas that need immediate improvement for the Niners-defensive end, defensive back and wide receiver are what I have tabbed as what they will target with their draft choices but with so many picks they'll obviously cover a lot more than just that.

At Defensive End if Carradine hadn't been picked up by the Falcons on the last pick I'd be turning his card in now. Very complete player that would have offered tremendous value so late in the first. I'm not quite sold on UCLA's Datone Jones, very talented but went missing at times in the couple of games I saw from him last year, so I'd probably keep him in check for pick 34 or a trade up later in the second.

Wide receiver was also an area that I gave a lot of consideration towards too. I know that the Boldin hiring gives them a big body, physical wide out this year but he's getting older so might only be effective for another year or two. With Crabtree's rookie contract expiring and not much else on the depth chart (Manningham's injuries only solid numbers for much of his career arent getting me too excited about him) so I think that finding another WR is crucial for the Niners. With Kaepernick entering his second season as the starter it's crucial that the Niners give him a young player to develop a long terms relationship with and the man that I keep coming back to is Robert Woods of USC.

Last year he was overshadowed by Marquise Lee at the Trojans and suffered a dropoff in performance as a result of this and the poor season that SC had last year. He has the potential to be a real threat to the defence with Crabtree, Boldin and Vernon Davis all taking a lot of attention from the defence. Woods is a physical player that always gets himself into a good position to make a catch and his return skills would be a very good asset for the Niners going foward. I'd be tempted to use the 34th pick on him but think DE will be a bigger need so trading some of their later picks (swap second rounders with the Jets at 39 and give them a third rounder in exchange for a fifth or something like that) would see the team filling all their major needs in the first 40 picks of the draft.

Taking WR or DE with the first pick is likely but the secondary is a bigger concern at the moment and given that DBs are harder to come by at this point of the draft then a decent pass rusher I'd look to use the 31st on a DB.

I looked at the safety position group quite closely through my scouting period and initially loved Florida International's Jonathan Cyprien but over the last few days I've seen a few holes in his game and think that he's a second round player now. Same for Florida's Matt Elam who I can't understand being so highly regarded by draftniks.

This left me looking at Corner Backs and there's actually quite a few to choose from. Boise State's Jamar Taylor is a good prospect and with the Bronco's having produced a few notable DBs in the last five year's he is clearly coming from a programme that gets guys ready to play in the NFL. Same for Geogia's Sander Commings. The Bulldogs had a very strong corp of defensive players the last couple of years and Commings is another player who could come into the league and be a shutdown type corner.

However ultimately I decided that while each of these players are all possible first rounders and would be impact performers on a Niners defensive that would allow them to be used as situational performers initially before expanding their role to be a starter I reached on my selection.

Johnathan Banks of Miss. State is not going to be a first round choice this year but over the last couple three years everytime I watched them play he seemed to impress me. He started his college career at safety before moving to the cornerback position and it's this versatility that I craved to a greater extent than the skills of the other DBs.

Banks has the size of the new breed of defensive backs at 6'2 but needs to bulk up a bit and get closer to 200 pounds (the added weight of Commings made him very appealing to me). If Banks had have come out last year he would have been a first rounder but a senior year of unfulfilled expectations (sound familiar Matt Barkley?) has seen his draft stock fall significantly. He'll be motivated to show the Niners what he can do going forward. He's got good ball skills and coverage ability but needs to improve in press coverage. I think getting him would give the Niners a lot more versatility on the back end of their defence and increased his value for me.

Like I said earlier I think that most team's will view Banks as being less valuable than I do but I think that the Niners will look at the situation and assess that finding a player that can play at safety or cornerback will be important for them so reaching for Banks is a good solution to their, relatively small, needs in this offseason

Coming into the 2012 season the USC senior was been touted as a potential Heisman trophy winner and first overall pick in the draft, however Barkley failed to live up to the hype and will slide to the Jags at the top of the Second round. The Jags are in desperate need of an upgrade at the quarterback position after 2011 first round pick Blaine Gabbert has proven to be a bust after leading the Jags too only 5 wins in 24 starts. Barkley At 6-2 and 230 lbs Barkley has all the physical tools to be an NFL starting quarterback, although he may not have the arm strength of Geno Smith , Barkley has show he has an accurate arm completing 64% of his passing in his four years at USC and passing for over 12,000 yards.

I see Harbaugh & Co. building on the DB pick late in the first by adding a strong DE with serious pass-rushing ability. And I believe he'd be a steal for them if he made it to 34.
They will look to mould him as the natural successor to Justin Smith, and definitely could rotate him with McDonald too up the middle.

    Jamar Taylor CB Boise State
I think CB is a huge need for the Eagles and this is not just filling a need but picking the best player on the board too. Taylor was really impressive in 2012 for Boise State and I think he is a sure to make an impact in the NFL with his good tackling ability and the way he can close so fast. He had a very impressive combine and pro-day and I honestly will be surprised if he is still around at 35. Just look above and you'll see that he was in contention to be picked for other teams.

With the 36th pick in the AF Mock Draft the Lions select

    Jonathan Cyprien - Safety

With Ziggy Ansah going in the 1st it's time for the lions to address their porous secondary. With the top rated corners off the board, safety is next position of need. Cyprien is a small school product who is highly rated and well worth being drafted here. I considered going DE again with Alex Okafor or OT Menelik Watson but Cyprien it is

With the 37th pick in the NFL Mock draft the Cincinnati Bengals select....

    cincinnati_bengals.jpg
Margus Hunt, DE, SMU 6-8' 277lbs,
    margushunt_display_image.jpg

The Bengals received this pick from the Carson Palmer trade and want to put it to good use.
Right tackle is a need, Andre Smith has been impressive the past two seasons but his agent's demands for 9 million per year contact are too much and there is also a need for a running back and safety.

However I see the draft as all about value and the Bengals have options with DJ Fluker, Barrett Jones, Justin Pugh, Kyle Long and Menelik Watson and likewise there are still talented runnning backs available in the late second and third rounds. Safety remains a need but the top safeties in the draft are already gone.

Mike Zimmer will get even more talent at his disposal with a new defensive end and as one of the best defensive coordinators in the league he'll get any of his D playing to their potential soon enough.

I was also looking at Alex Okafor but went with Hunt. He won't be asked to contribute straight away though as a high second rounder high expectations still exist for his rookie season. Being raw is no problem as the Bengals staff will bring him along and extremely physical players are always welcome in the AFC North.

I'm aware some may say the Bengals GM has been wow'ed by a workout warrior and maybe this is a reach. Not at all as there is reasoning behind the pick, defensive end is a premium position and the draft is all about value, value, value. Other areas will be adressed with later picks due to the excellent depth in the 2013 draft

With the 38th pick in the AF Mock Ðraft the Cardinals select

Alex Okafor - DE - Texas

I was tempted to go with EJ Manuel here but think that guys like Bray & Tyler Wilson will be available in the 3rd where-as there will be no player like Okafor. An all round player who is good against the run and can rush the passer.

Okafor is great value at this point as I see him possibly being selected at the bottom of the 1st. Okafor outshone his higher rated team-mate Jackson Jeffcoat. He finished the year with 12.5 sacks, 16.5 tackles for loss and 4 forced fumbles

D.J. Fluker, OT out of the University of Alabama

I don't think RT is necessarily the Jets biggest need, however I just couldn't turn my back on the value that Fluker offers at this point in the draft. The Jets have a lot of positions of need in this draft, I considered Safety, CB, DT, QB and WR prospects at this pick. However I've seen Fluker go as high as 13 in mock drafts and most analysts seem to agree he's unlikely to get past the bears at 20. So while RT isn't the Jets biggest need, they could do with an upgrade at the position and Fluker definitely offers that.

    images?q=tbn:ANd9GcToHJT98xMA-SefPuz9yTWExJZiz_c7c--1PDbpXg2ZbvDVy8Ro

D.J. Hayden, CB out of the University of Houston

For this pick I considered DE and CB as the Titans biggest remaining needs after the interior of the OL was beefed up in the first round. I feel that most of the top DE's that would fit the Titans scheme are off the board so I decided to go with CB.

That decision was made even easier after seeing DJ Hayden still on the board. To be honest I didn't know much about Hayden until recently, that is due to the fact he has gone largely under the radar in this pre-draft process. This is probably due to to him almost dying after a freak accident in training just months ago. However after surviving his ordeal, he put up good numbers in hi pro-day at Houston and has apparently been medically cleared by most NFL teams.

What really caught my attention is that a couple of days ago Mike Mayock named his as his top CB in this draft. The Titans could use an upgrade at CB opposite McCourty and Hayden is the feisty, tough-tackling type of CB that the Titans like. This is a great fit for the Titans and great value, however I can see him going much higher in the actual draft.

Next up is theRB with the Buffalo Bills.

I don't have a whole lot to say about this pick, I think Stevie Johnson is a good player but other than that they have a huge need at wide receiver. Obviously they're weak at other positions but seeing as they drafted Geno Smith at #8, I think it only makes sense to bring in somebody else for him to throw to.

    (Comments from OAOB)
Their biggest needs are CB and OT, CB was sorted in round one and probably no OT worth the pick at this point. DE (4-3) and TE needed also, if Ertz fell I’d probably take him or else make a reach for Terron Armstead at OT.

With the 44th pick of the Boards AF mock draft the panthers select Eric Reid LSU.

    uspw_5058410.jpg

Given that Carolina addressed the D-Line in the first round attention now turns to the secondary. Had a very good receiver dropped to here that could have been an option but I think the secondary is the bigger need.

The panthers would have loved to be selecting DJ Hayden here, but as he was gone they went with Eric Reid, one of the best safeties in the draft.

While CB is also an area of need it would be tough to look past Reid who has valuable experience playing in the SEC. He can switch between SS and FS, but will probably spend most of his time at FS.

Reid is good against the pas and the run, he is tall and hits hard. While he can be a bit over aggressive he can work on that to become a solid player at the pro level.

With the 45th pick overall pick of the AF forum draft the San Diego Chargers select
    ap818674333742.jpg

Terron Armstead, OT, Arkansas Pine Bluff.

I know that this may seem like a bit of a reach but as everyone knows, the Chargers are in dire need of a decent left tackle and after none of the top 3 fell to them in the first round, a big weakness can be addressed here.

The other tackles I had under consideration were Menelik Watson but he seems like too much of a project and is a right tackle. The other player was Justin Pugh but he projects better as a guard.
So Terron Armstead is the pick. He started all 12 games at Pine Bluff at left tackle helping the Golden Lions to a 10-2 record. He had a very strong performance at the East-West Shrine game & subsequently at the Senior bowl. Additionally he put up impressive numbers at the NFL combine.
Is excellent in pass blocking & also decent at run blocking, he should prove to be a great pickup for the Chargers.

With the 46th overall pick of the 2013 Boards Mock Draft the St Louis Rams select

    Jamie-Collins.jpg

Jamie Collins - OLB - Southern Miss

    Height: 6-3. Weight: 250. Arm: 33 3/8. Hand 9 7/8
    40 Time: 4.64.

After addressing needs at safety and wide receiver in the first round, the Rams turn their attentions to their next biggest need - getting some athleticism in their side at the OLB position.

Collins has been the definition of production for Southern Miss and totaled over 90 tackles, 10 sacks, 20 tackles for a loss and 4 forced fumbles this season. At the combine he gave a quality display of athleticism which has impressed many scouts.

He certainly has work to do, namely on his technique, plays around the line of scrimmage and learning to wrap up in tackles rather than always going for the big hit, but I think he will be a productive OLB in the NFL.

On the clock is D3P0 and the Cowboys.

With DT being addressed in the 1st round the Cowboys can now address their o-line need. They are sorted at LT but have struggled at RT. Watson is a very athletic OT who only gave up 1 sack in 2 years at Florida State.

Had they addressed OT in the 1st round Jonathan Hankins would be a good choice here, or if one of the better safeties were still available they would also be an option

With the 48th pick in the AF Mock draft the Steelers select

    Eddie Lacy-RB-Alabama

Having addressed the defensive side of the ball in the first round, the Steelers decide to improve the RB position with the years number one RB prospect. The departure of Richard Mendenhall leaves the Steelers fairly thin at the RB position with Jonathan Dwyer and Isaac Redman as their two starting RBs, Dwyer lead the Steelers with a measly 620 rushing yards last season, their worst in a long time.

Lacy is a strong power back, a tough physical runner who is excellent at getting yards after contact, he has deceptive speed and is well able to handle a large amount of touches. On the other hand Lacy could do with improving his pass protection and his receiving skills
