One dog attacked another seriously injuring it.
The owner did not have it on a lead and walked off.

And you signed up to a forum 3 days later to ask if anyone else saw it ??

Awful thing to happen I hope the dog was ok. One of mine was also attacked last week. Thankfully he is a very large dog so the loose Siberian got a surprise! However I was seriously angry with the owner who just stood there!

The point is people should feel safe out walking their dogs without fear of getting attacked.

Owner of the dog off lead was seriously in the wrong, and should be expected to pay vet bills (I'm assuming attacked dog was on leash?)

I don't care how well behaved peoples dogs are, any dog, any breed, can snap and attack and should be on a lead at all times in public.

Eta, I'm not saying all dogs are evil or anything and *will* attack, I'm just saying that (as a dog owner and have been all my life) that I think it is irresponsible to trust a dog so completely as something could potentially cause them to turn.

Im just wondering what the point of their post is, as in whats their query? If everyone was to be posting threads on dogs being attacked sure there would be posts everyday.

It isnt the law to have your dog on the lead so you saying that is only your opinion at the end of the day.

Just wondering what the attack has to do with the op as it doesnt look like they were directly involved??

Thanks honerbright. Hopefully the owner will be identified and fined. And keep his dog on a lead. Next time itbcould be a child.

Seriously?? Why would it be a child next time. This kind of statement really annoys me. Dogs attack each other all the time and know the difference between people and dogs.

Lots of dogs are dog aggressive and fine with people.

Next time it could be a cheesecake. Seriously, dogs get into scraps and skirmishes all the time, doesn't mean they are automatically going to maul a child 'next time'. If his dog was dog aggressive it ought to be on a lead, period, but what's the actual point of this thread? Even if someone did see this 'attack' it's impossible to make something of it after the fact.

I would hate to be a new poster to this forum if this is how people react to this guy.

So no dog should EVER be off-lead anywhere, regardless of its temperment? No dog should be able to play with its friends in the park? How would you suggest that dogs learn to interact with each other if they don't get to express natural behaviours in each other's company?

I agree that aggressive dogs should be kept on lead, one of mine is for this very reason, but a non-aggressive dog should not be perpetually confined and muzzled because of what might maybe happen one day.

If you have young children, your perspective can be a lot different.

Sometimes a child can be on the other end of the lead. I was out with friends whose assistance dog was attacked while working with an autistic child.

So yes absolutely a child can also be involved when a dog aggressive dog attacks. Can you imagine the terror of an already compromised child in the situation above?

Situations are not always black and white.

Why? Nobody is attacking the poster, just puzzled as to point of post.

You could say that about any thread. Sure that 14 year old girl was was killed in the UK. Sure whats the point if that. Dogs attack people all the time.

Take it to the nth degree and every thread is pointless after a reply or 2.

To be clear this was a vicious attack. 4 broken ribs and punctured lungs. And the owner verbally abused the other dog owner before walking off. Not your everyday dog tussle. This post is well intended. To try to identify the owner.

It is rare that a dog will kill a human, so it makes a talking point– although you will perhaps notice I didn't comment on that thread at all. A skirmish over the weekend between two dogs is hardly newsworthy and impossible to do anything about except start a whole round of hypothetical whataboutery.

You ought to put up posters around the area detailing the attack and perhaps a reward for information, Tramore is not so very large.

You probably should have included that info in your OP.

But what is your connection with the attack? Do you know the person involved? Why are you looking to locate the owner and what will you do if you identify them? Will you be making a complaint to the guards?

I was there. Yes. Report them. Yes the owner has. Thanks

Dog attacks Dog, said dog not on lead, causes serious harm to dog on lead.. owner of unrestrained animal plainly liable, who leaves the scene.... op posts thread on boards asking for assistance to identify owner, or if anyone saw attack also.... wtf is wrong with some of the replies on boards recently.... best of luck op, hope the person gets found and made to pay........ ALL dogs should be on leads in public places. Everyone is under the idea that their cute little canine is ok to not be on lead because it is cute... not so.. if it comes up to my not so cute canione who is restarained as per law, and gets its ears bitten off, it wont be so cute then. Dpog owners are responsible for the welfare of their dogs, and to let dogs run around without restrain is clearly not living up to this. All dogs, no matter if they are pomeranians or pitbulls, should be on a lead in public places, should not be walked by under 16 year olds etc. If everyone adhered to this dogs, humans, and ofcourse all the little children would be much better off.. especially the dogs who depend on owners to have common sense. The amount of 'lovely harmless dogs' around thes eparts, whos owners wallk around with them off lead, who see a rabbit or other dog, and are lost, probably after a few days killing sheep and dangerous ddue to starvation, is appauling. Dog owners, regardless of their cute little bundles, should take responsibility of their dogs and they should be on a lead at all times in public places. Very simple and should be law.........

Sorry, I should have been more specific.. When I said in public, I mean walking down the street, busy places, past other houses where other dogs, not off in the park playing with its friends/dogs you know it get's on with/have ensured in an on lead meeting they get on.
I mean.. your dog is off lead in park playing, yay! But then a new dog comes along, I think both dogs should meet on lead to ensure there's not going to be any trouble. I didn't explain myself well, and I don't think I am still.
Of course dogs should be allowed to play and socialise, but when I'm walking my dog and there's a dog off lead she panics (she gets intimidated by dogs just rushing at her and she's barely higher than my ankle, so everyone is bigger than her) so I always have to scoop her up and let her meet said dog from their height first before popping her back down to do the regular doggy meeting routine.

Depends on who you ask; from "One dog managed to bite the other once" to "one dog had to be put down due to the wounds sustained". Heck; I know people who'd classify serious on even less grounds then that (inc. a cat was seriously trying to harm someone's dog when it hissed at the dog coming sniffing around  ).

Also worth noting is that I'm not sure what the OP would have hoped to do as the moment someone would have mentioned a name (any name mind you) it would need to be deleted due to risk of being sued; at best would have been to ask people to go to the police with information (assuming it had been reported in).

    but he didn't.

    He posted:

"Did anyone else witness this outside T Bay ?
One dog attacked another seriously injuring it.
The owner did not have it on a lead and walked off."

Nothing about asking for assistance to identify the owner.

It was more the part that he was actually looking to identify the owner that I was referring to.

Well the OP has closed their account, can't say I blame them. It is really horrible to witness a serious dog attack & watch as the idiotic owner walks off without a care in the world.

For whats its worth I can never walk my dogs in peace without some loose dog coming over and making daily walks more of an ordeal then a pleasure.

So yes there is a major problem in Ireland with off lead dogs not under control.

The problem is the owners rather than the dogs themselves. The lack of responsibility and training rather than it's the dogs fault.

But the answer isn't a blanket "all dogs must be on a leash". We all know the lack of legislation (and enforcement of current legislation) in the area. I would like to see more follow through on enforcement and fining for irresponsible owners but pigs might fly before that would happen.

This is exactly the whataboutery I was talking about. Savage poms, sheep killing, starvation, no idea if other dog in OP was leashed or not, no true understanding of the actual law regarding dogs ( non RB dogs not expected to be leashed at all times, but under control), just hysterical reaction and some fingerpointing.
