If you don't need a prescription, then how do you know which lenses to get

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 182 ✭✭stenan

Well I got a prescription over a year ago and normally with companies it has to be within a year of the prescription or else they wont sell you contact lenses. My current contact lenses that I use are still fine and I can still see perfectly with them. So I don't need a new prescription which I would have to pay for!!!

http://www.daysoftcontactlenses.com/ appears to still work out cheaper even after the discount.

Ive used them for years and cannot fault them.

+1 on daysoft. I prefer them to the ones I got in specsavers, and I've never found cheaper lenses

Specsavers are even cheaper than getlenses for the focus dailys unless you spend over €50. I have to move back to them because the daysoft ones are starting to get a bit blurry for close up viewing even though my eyes are the same they were 3 years ago :( (I'm slightly short sighted). The Ciba focus dailys seem fine.

    +1 for daysoft

That website would turn me off the product straight away- it seems dead dodgy. I am surprised that so many users praise it and have tried it.

I would ask, seeing as your eyes are so important, can you all really recommend the company? I am all for bargains, but I wouldn't want to chance my health or eyesight.

I can 100% vouch for that site. Been using them for over 3 years and never had an issue. They even come in convenient letter box size packages for ease of postage.

Well and good for "simple" prescriptions, but for anybody requiring a toric prescription like myself (for astigmatism) the getlenses.ie offer is good.

    Thanks OP!

Been using daysoft for years and years too, even when I went to the states for 14 months I had them delivered there too. Always fast delivery too.

Annual cls check up doesnt only check your prescription its mainly for the health of your eye

On the same lenses I get from Vision Express, the above site seems to work out only about €2 cheaper per box of 30 lenses.

I have tried to use the coupon and although it showed the 10% off when I apply the coupon, when I get to the payment phase it is not actually applied.

I am spending 59€ (before applying the coupon) and I tried 3 different browsers...

So it didn't actually work for me!

    Thanks anyway.

I've been using Specsavers LensMail for ages but that's getting quite expensive around €50 for 30 pairs.
How do I find my perscription with having to ring them up?
    I'm using disposables.
(Oh and I don't really think contact lenses are considered Groceries :P )

Discountlens.ie Don't be fooled by the .ie, Its actually a German company and I recommend them, Cheap reliable and far far cheaper than any Irish site..

There should be the lenses strength indicated on the side of the box

Bit of advice for anyone ordering from getlenses.ie. Go to the .co.uk site and order in sterling as its about 15 euro per month cheaper to order from them this varies according to currency fluctuations but is always much cheaper.
You might be waiting a week or two for delivery but order in advance and there should be no problems.
Ive been doing it this way for a couple of years with no problem.

I've been using day soft for months now after finding them mentioned on boards before.

One of the reasons I still wear contacts is because daysoft make it affordable unlike the high street stores.

A monthly batch works out at around 12 euro delivered.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 228 ✭✭knipper

Spot on. Daysoft by far the cheapest but getlenses is the only one where I can get my prescription.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 699 ✭✭✭niallam

    http://www.lenscatalogue.co.uk/

for my Dailies AquaComfort Plus it works out €27 cheaper from here with delivery than from getlenses

Just on the daysoft lenses, i tried them and went through about 20 lenses for my right eye and not 1 of them would sit correctly, wouldn't settle at all in my eye. Still have all the left eye ones i ordered and all the right - the 20 that wouldn't sit :(

I had the same shortsighted prescription for 20 years, been ordering off daysoft since they opened. I contacted daysoft when I got the same problem as you, they said at about age 38-45 your eyes start to regress so that your shortsightedness remains the same but you need to adjust for varifocal. sure enough got a new prescription from optician, sent it in to daysoft, great near and far vision again.

got turned down for laser vision treatment as well a month later for exact same thing. "you can get it done if you want but youll need to wear reading glasses a lot more due to your age" and they told me same thing about the regressing focus./

you want them to spend money on how their website looks and then end up charging us a little more?

I just ordered contacts from Daysoft and i see there's a customs clearance note on the package. Does anyone know if i order over a certain amount will i have to pay customs charges on the lenses and if so what's the cut off amount something like €25 ?

No. I regularly get orders worth 70-80 and never pay customs.

I think they come from sweden so eu trade agreements and all that.

they ship internationally so Id say the trade agreements dont apply to every country they ship to so its probably just a standard thing

    This code should work

You have to spend over 30 euro to get the 10% discount and its only for your first order. So you may need to create a new account if you have ordered before.
