Hey lads, haven't been on here in a while but looking for help.

Moved to the states last year and have put on the freshmen fifteen.

Been training the past month and eating right. I've been finding the cardio boring as hell. I was doing a half hour session on treadmill at 6.5 mph, three miles. I was running at zero incline.

Today I did something different. Did 45 mins. The first 30 I did 2 mins at 4.5 mph then 2mins at 6mph at level one incline. Then for ten mins I did 2 mins at 4.5 and 2mins at 6.5, level one incline. I finished with 4.5 mph for 10 mins at level 2 incline.

Is this okay??? I enjoyed it as the time passed quicker....

Whatever gets you through it. I find I have an optimum speed/pace though so I dont like to vary it too much.

3.1 miles is a 5k, you could start training for 10k's

Music is good too. I can get lost in it so time goes by quicker.

Studies have shown the benefits too:

I've been doing something similar, only training 8 weeks, I do find music helps and breaking up the run into chunks... Did 5ks yesterday between 5.8 and 7.2 also on tredmill as find outdoors pretty hard.. Might try the inclines like yourself tomorrow...... Today though my hips are like rusty hinges.... feel like a geriatric??? Is this normal.

I agree. What about the bike? I do 5-10 miles on the bike first and its a good set up for the treadmill. I like the bike because you can vary speed easily, no balance issues, zone out and pound it out.

Interval training is always a good option/alternative.

BTW, have you any idea of the % incline that each 'level' is? Or what's the max level incline?

Thanks for the replies lads! Just heading out the door for another hour of it. The bike is a good idea alright. I've no idea about the incline though, all I know is it goes up to ten!

Gonna do another 45 mins doing same thing again. I'm getting sprinting in at Gaelic training too which I'm finding good
