Just saw a few Garda bikes escort a bus down the Quays of Dublin then into Christchurch. Why an escort this late at night? Who would be on the bus? Who decides who is entitled to an escort?

Where was the match played tonight, here or Sweden? May have been the team. Oh, and who won?

Played in Sweden 0-0 draw. Would football teams get an Garda escort?

I've seen football and rugby team buses get escorted to and from stadiums at many levels. Bogball teams usually just drive to the pub in their tractors after matches.

Not a notion. I just thought I would play the guessing game along with everyone else ;)

There's a recession on you know! They're all bussed around the place when they're on the move en masse.

No they wouldn't! Maybe escorted out of the grounds if there was trouble outside it that's about it.

Would they pay for it? I have seen them getting driven out of the environment of the stadium and away from fans flanked by Gardai but didn't think they would spin them the whole way to the hotel. The soccer guys stay at the airport while the rugby boys are in Carton House I think. Quiet a spin.

Sick or in labour is fine could be your family like, but if its some sports team or music star surely they should pay for the privilege.

I thought this was about a Garda boy racer

A football or rugby team would be charged for the services of the Gardai if such services were requested.

I thought this was about a (ban ) Garda earning a bit on the side as an escort.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,699 ✭✭✭mud

My friend got a nnnnGarda escort when her labour accelerated without warning.

She said it was terrifying but lovely and the Gardaí gave her a guard of honour going in to the maternity and were all calling out best wishes!

    It's a nice story I think :)

EU minister chaps heading from the castle to their 5 star hotel perhaps.

Maybe it was the Irish team just off the plane or something? Would they fly home the same night as the match given that they have a home game next week and there wasn't really a lot to celebrate by going out on the piss in Sweden?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,116 ✭✭✭starviewadams

They stay out in Portmarnock,so even if they did fly in tonight,no reason to be near Christchurch.

I'd say it was a prison transfer of some sort

It's the new brewing machinery for the Guinness brewery upgrade. Massive towers and what not being moved very slowly towards the city center. Really weird to see coming down the road so slow with a load of gardai escorts.

Yeah could be a bus going up to collect them from the castle as it went towards Christchurch.

No it wasn't it was 5 or 6 bikes around a bus travelling on North Quays then turning over the bridge into Christchurch. Seen pics of the new brewing machine looks class. Presume Guinness pay for that escort and pay Dublin City Council for closing roads etc?

Only time I've seen a coach with a Garda escort other then a rugby team I seen get one once is the bubble gum club. They bring sick kids on trips seen them get a Garda escort up the leopardstown road towards dunlaoghaire for the ferry to Alton towers. It was quite sweet really they looked like they where having a ball.

I know a guy who had a Garda escort when he was getting a taxi into one of the maternity hospitals for his wife giving birth.

International Rugby and Football teams are escorted to the games. If its in the Aviva, they past my house. Which reminds me of a story about how embarrassing our parents can be.

So Ireland were playing France in a World Cup or Euro qualifier a couple of years ago and generally when you hear the escort everyone would run out a give the team a wave of support especially in big games. Cue sirens and my mother running onto the street with an ireland flag above her head screaming Ole Ole Ole! In heavy evening traffic.

Turns out, Ireland were playing in Paris

I got one when the mother was driving me to hospital with a pain in my testicle. There was a match on in town and loads of traffic as a results, but we spotted a Garda we know and he got a motorbike Garda to escort us down. I'll never forget his face when Ma told him why we were going to the hospital. It was a face of pure fear that only a fellow man could understand. :pac:

The Galway team coach passed me on the Navan Road in Cabra on All-Ireland Hurling Final day last summer and they had a motorcycle escort.

I doubt they're still circling the quays though.
