What was the biggest amount of weight you've ever lost? Did it take long? Did you keep it off? How did you do it? :)

2 stone. About 5 months. Yes. Diet and exercise (nothing fancy: use more calories that you consume).

18 pounds in 7weeks,cut out all rubbish food, had 3 good meals a day and a few small cheat treats over the week,as in the last post, its about cutting down the calorie intake and getting in some healthy exercise, its not rocket science but it takes will power

31 pounds in 9 months going from 11 stone 1 to just under 9 stone.

Did it by making an effort with diet and using myPlate as a tracker that I used every single day. I tried myfitnesspal but I thought myplate was much better, mfp sets ridiculously low calorie goals and the macronutrients are skewed in some cases. myPlate I used it online for free and you can get an app for iphone. It only took a minute or 2 per day and was great to let you see exactly where the calories are going.

I did a bit of exercise but nothing excessive just upped walking in the evenings and swimming.

2 stone in 2 months, got braces and stopped drinking soft drinks, tea and coffee (with sugar), sweets biscuits etc. kept to my normal excel ode regime which was just cycling and football 3 times a week.

You may think I was a fattie losing that much weight but was was about 81kg and went down to just over 67kg.

I'm 5'11 so it was quite dramatic weight loss. I gave to above for jan and lost 11lbs but I'm not as active these days

80 - 85 pounds ( 5 - 5 1/2 stone) in about 16 months, took a lot of hard work, good healthy diet, I removed anything processed, my diet is 90% fresh Veg, fruit, meat, nuts etc... exercise at least 3 times a week both resistance and intense cardio.

It took a long time to put the weight on, it will take a long time to get it off.

just under 16 stone to 11 stone. Took a couple of years. knocked the first 3 stone off slowly (over a year) by eating very sensibly and using a food diary and started jogging then running, swimming and yoga. Then stayed at 13ish for a while. The remainder was lost much quicker, 2 stone in about 3 months, no exercise and only eating the very bare minimum. Just had no appetite for a while.
Have since gone back up to nearly 12 and am back to eating sensibly and running. 10 and a half is my ideal weight so trying to get back there.

I think this is a very good point. If you're 25 and you started slowly putting on weight from the age of 18 to the point where it became a problem, that's 7 years of over-eating and under-exercising, that's not going to be reversed overnight.

Last year, between January and April I lost 2 stone. I did it through controlling my eating habits, exercising, a lot of willpower and tried as much as possible not to punish myself when I didn't stick to the plan. After a long break due to injury, I returned to the gym and my healthy ways properly in January of this year and have lost a further stone and kept it off up to now. Last year, other than losing the weight, I didn't notice significant changes to my body shape, as I was doing mainly cardio. However, this year I have so far lost less weight but have noticed huge changes to my body shape, the difference is I am now doing mainly weights based training and less cardio (partly due to injury).

Went from 17.5 stone to 10.5 stone about 10 years ago through cycling & diet.
Then I bought a car & put it all back on :(

Got the bike out again about 2 weeks ago :)

2 stone. The first, I lost between January and May of 2009 and the second came off slowly over the next year. Put some back on while pregnant (less than a stone) and lost that in about ten months, through my normal eating habits. This was done through watching portion sizes, eating non-processed food (lots of omelettes) and regular walking.

I've technically kept it off as I'm currently at my lowest adult weight. That said, I'm now on a mission to reduce fat and couldn't give a monkey's about what the scale says.

Two stone. No fun. Just lost about two kilos and that was a helluva lot easier.

Lost 4.5 stone in 3 years. Went from 95kg down to 69kg. Stopped drinking, took up hard and intense training, 5-6 times a week. Good diet changed from terrible diet, loads of water. Only downside was alot of my clothes are too big for me now and prob need to put on a bit of weight as im 6 foot 2.

May 27th 2012 - 16 stone 7lb. I was to be prescribed Xenical but it was unavailable at the time. Got miserable. Got depresssed. Got motivated. Read on here and other places and started following Slimming World at home - signed up online to make myself accountable with a weigh in - but mostly I limited white carbs (exclude 80% of the time), reduced alcohol, ate very little processed food. Added nuts, coconut milk and eggs to my diet.
    Xmas Eve - 11 stone 13lb.
Since then I have started kettlebells 2/3 times a week and swim - been on and off plan but slowly loosing bodyfat at 2% a month and now 11 stone 3lb.

How do you find the kettlebells? there is a class starting near me and i was thinking of going,i need to get rid of 2 stone.
I have my diet sorted and i walk 5k most days.

About 6 stone [20 down to 14] - took 7 or 8 months to loose..

About 2 or 3 years later Im still around 14 stone..

How it came off and stayed off? Smaller portion sizes, eating actual food [as opposed to processed ****e and fast food!], going from zero exercise to really getting into it [first gym 4 or 5 times a week, and eventually into running]. Looking back, I was low carbing for lots of it as bread and pasta were my huge weaknesses - so I eliminated them for a long time and my carb intake was tiny [again, not really by design]. Also I started eating breakfast where I simply did not for years [protien shakes for breakfast, and later porridge etc]

Best advice ever? Dont eat anything your great grandfather could not have eaten - basically if it has been grown or killed your ok, if it has to go through a factory or something like that be VERY suspicious :)

I love them. I've been going 2/3 times a week but it's only 30min class & can really see/feel improvements - started with 4kg and 6kg . My arms are really weak but I do most of the routine now with an 8kg and a 10 kg - swings, squats, deadlift I use a 14kg as of this week.
I'd recommend them for strengthening and loosing inches - definitely waist, thighs and knees are smaller (carry my extra weight in thighs and bum) and I'm more toned all over.
Also think if I had kept my diet clean since Jan would have lost more weight - that's been letting me down.

I have lost 104lbs since last February. 29y/o female, 5'4" - BMI was 40 and is now 22. I am never going back to being big again. Never! Funny thing is, even though I eat more healthy, lower calorie foods and exercise a hell of a lot more, I eat more now than I ever did!

Went from 15 stone down to 11 stone, no fad diets or gym work involved. Gave up take aways, fried food, pizzas etc but still was able to treat myself from time to time. Did some cardio work at home and just cut my calories.

    6 stone, 84 pounds.

Took about a year. 3 months half trying, nine months serious effort.

Will have kept it off for 3 years this summer (more or less...holidays, xmas etc...)

Eat more than I ever have. Clean(er) diet and exercise 5 times a week. Love the exercise.

7 stone in 7 months. Through dieting alone. Over the course of the last 9 months I've put back on about 6lbs. Now I want to drive on and lose another 3-4 stone for a target weight of about 11st.

I joined Weight Watchers but kind of did my own take on it. I used WW to help me with portion control and I liked the structure of the weigh ins. But in WW they tell you that fat is bad and some other silly things. I ignored this and upped my healthy fat intake. I massively upped my protein intake too. Carbs too. I also stayed away from processed crap. I basically focused on my macros. I'm speaking in the past tense here but this is stuff I still do now to maintain a healthy diet and weight.
I took up running too and the weight started to fall off me. I'm so in love with running now - I'm obsessed! It's great for clearing my head and and it's an enjoyable way of keeping my weight under control.

Oh sorry, I'm used to using the abbreviation :o - macronutrients. Basically protein, carbohydrates, healthy fats and fibre. The Nutrition 101 thread in the Nutrition and Diet forum is great for info: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055157091

22kg since February 2012. Researched and learned lots about nutrition, diet and exercise. Applied everything I learned and figured out what worked best for me. Eat less, lift weights. It's as simple as that (well, almost).

In 2008 when I was 16 years old I was roughly 125 kg at 5 ft 11. Knowing I was obese I still did nothing about it, eating 9 plates of rice a day etc. Suddenly one night I was having serious difficulty breathing and had to wake up my mum at around 2 am and went to A&E. While in there the Doctor mentioned that I had a weight induced asthma attack and that I had to seriously consider losing weight or else I could seriously endanger my health.

A few days afterwards I asked my parents If I could join a gym and they gladly accepted to pay for my membership. Fast forward 1 year later after avoiding junk foods, strictly dieting (Very high protein + low carb) and doing regular cardio + lifting I managed to get down to roughly 71 kg ( Size 48 waist to size 32 waist). Thinking back I couldn't believe how I managed to pull it off. 5 years on even to this day it always brings me to tears when I look back at all the hardship and mental suffering I went through due to constant dieting but I'll be honest and admit that it was worth it.

Just remember that only you have the power to change your body, we only live once so why not put in all the hard work for a few months in order to get results! Right now im at around 92 kg at 12 % bf so thankfully I managed to maintain myself around that and not fall off the wagon.

Feel free to PM me if you ever need any hand with altering your diet or any weight routine and I will gladly help :)

    May 25th 2011 = 225 Pounds
    September 14th 2011 = 194 Pounds

Spent a summer working in America. The heat for one affected my eating patterns. I just found myself drinking more water than eating (maybe 4 times the amount that I would here). Secondly, I worked in a factory. There was plenty of lifting and physical excercise every day made me drop a lot of pounds.

Lastly, all the travelling helped aswell. We travelled a large portion of the east coast walking and swimming mostly through the summer.

Biggest weight that I have ever lost and I wasnt even trying lol :-)

Almost 60lbs (just over 4 stone) since January last year. And still losing, but at a much slower pace. Gradually upping my calories now as I'm a bit exhausted with the very low calorie shenanigans and have started lifting weights since February this year. My weight loss has plateaued a bit but the inches are still dropping off since I started lifting.
Hope to be a size 10/12 by the end of this year (started at a size 20/22 or so.) Currently a 12/14.
I'm female and only 5'1 so this has been quite a dramatic change to my body. Feel better than I have my entire adult life! :D
