Hi, this is my first time on the microsoft forum so apologies if this is the wrong place to post.
I am currently putting the finishing touches to a research proposal for college. It is comprise of 6 sections with a number of sub sections in each, i.e 6.1, 6.2 etc. For some reason word will not allow me to line these headings or subheadings the same distance from margin throughout the document.
I am hoping to make it look professional as possible and have spent the last couple of hours messing with it myself to no avail and am ready to throw the laptop through the window!
I would be so so greatful if anyone could share some advice.

    Thank you.

It sounds like you have applied the heading style to your text and then made some changes to individual headings, accidentally or otherwise

Find the style which has not been consistently applied
On the Home Menu Ribbon, right click on the style you have the problem with and select all instances of the style, then right click again and update style to match selection (note, this will set the style to the last instance of its use). This will standardise the application of the style, then either right click again and modify the style, or update the style by manually editing one instance of the style (Sorry if that sounds complicated)

most important thing to do is save as with a new file name, often so you have multiple milestones to go back to

the worst thing in the world is trying to undo word's auto-formatting :(

    save early, save often
