Cost of hysterectomy operation?

Hi everyone, I hope it's OK to start a new thread on this 'cos I haven't seen it anywhere else, but feel free to move it if you need to.

Basically a good friend of mine is going in to have a hysterectomy soon and she had a long chat with her doctor about what's involved.

One thing she did forget to ask was how much it would cost.
She doesn't have a medical card (she works full time) and she isn't insured.
She'll be having the operation via laproscopy and the hospital have told her they want to hang on to her for 4 nights afterwards.

Just wondered if anyone can shed any light on this?

I know it probably differs from woman to woman, but roughly..any estimate?
    Even just a ballpark figure?

Someone said these things are capped and there's only a certain limit you pay.

She'll be having the op at The Coombe, too, if this helps.
Thanks very much in advance for any help.

I put in daily public hospital charge in ireland and got the following information from the following website

    http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/health/hospital_services/hospital_charges.html
    In-patient charges in public hospitals
If you are in a public ward under the care of a consultant for treatment and you remain overnight, you are receiving in-patient services.
If you are admitted to the hospital under the care of a consultant where you do not require the use of a bed overnight and your discharge from hospital is planned, you are receiving day services.
The charge for in-patient/day services is €75 per day up to a maximum of €750 in any 12 consecutive months.

When your friend pays this ask for a receipt and fill out a med one form as she may be able to claim tax of 20% back on these charges along with any doctor or consultant visits that she paid for in the past 12 months. I think you can claim back for the past 4 years if you have your receipts for medical expenses.
