    Hi All,

Does anyone have any tips yet for Property and Equity? All the niggly topics I left out last year as they were unlikely are now very likely this year so I'm not sure what to focus on.

Any tips early on would be 100% appreciated!

Hi folks long time creep first time poster! Will be sitting my first chosen fe1's in March and just looking for some info. Sorry if this is a completely silly question with an obvious answer but what mode of citation must one use in an exam? Am I right in saying for acts and legislation you just need to know the facts and what section you have taken it from? (And yes I do know what legislation is permitted) but if you wish to direct quote from an article or book or even to paraphrase? I have only been familiar with Harvard and MLA at undergrad so would this be sufficient? Or is it even necessary to be overly particular about it? Come from an arts background so even so even though on assignment marks were allocated for citation I always felt when exams rolled around they weren't overly picky about how it looked on paper once we proved where the source came from! Hoping someone will tell me this is the case here 😕

Courtneys new company act book is €200 :( Does anyone know if you can still bring in the old book to the exam?. Is there anyone at all who can help out with updated company notes as well? Ive asked before but some creep of a mod keeps deleting my posts and messaging me to read the rules. I've enough to be reading now being honest. Creep mod: snip. Banned for 1 month as power numerous warnings in this thread.

I don't know if you can bring the old acts in or not but surely it'd be fairly pointless when you can't answer on them?
Also, you can't ask for notes on here. That's why your posts keep getting deleted.

Hi guys just wondering if anyone can tell me what came up on the topic of Injunctions in the equity exam in the last sitting? Also if anyone has any tips about the exam itself it would be greatly appreciated

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 65 ✭✭Scarymary13

Hi Iceman, I just bought the Companies Act itself for €95. I looked at the syllabus for 2016 and it only mention the 2014 Act not the old acts.

I would post the url but its not letting me because I am a new user.

My constitutional manual is from 2012/2013, is this too old or could I get away with it?

My 2 cents on equity having passed it in October would be to leave out injunctions, secret trusts and constructive trusts. Do everything else in the manual. Guaranteed 6 questions.

Anyone have any advice on Constitutional or the case note question in EU?

I was told that Injunctions is a guaranteed question so it would be insane to leave it out? Or are you just going on the fact that its such a huge topic?

I wouldn't advise to leave all of injunctions out. It is often a predictable enough question that seems to follow a pattern i.e if a certain injunction hasn't been up in while then there's a likelihood it is due to come up. This would probably be one of the only sections of the FE-1s that I would advise referring to an exam grid while studying.

Does anyone have any hot tips for Property? I know the lecturer in Independent was good for predicting the paper. Obviously Succession is a must!

Agreed. The last paper had a question on the Campus Oil test, and was almost an exact question that had appeared before.

It may even have been verbatim.

Many of the questions on the Equity paper appear verbatim / almost verbatim to be fair. I think leaving out Injunctions is a good idea. The paper (like the manual) is split into 'Equity' and 'Trusts' questions. If you look at past papers, 5 if not 6 questions usually come from the Trusts section. In my opinion, the best use of your time in studying for Equity is to study the entire trusts half of the manual in real detail as opposed to wading through 40 pages of Injunctions.

As for property - Treasure Trove, Co-Ownership, Family Property, Easements, Adverse Possession, Succession, Mortgages, Licences & Rights of Residence and Land Registration would have you covered unless it was a real shock paper.

I wouldn't leave out injunctions at all. The exam grid is very helpful for figuring out what one is going to come up next. I know that helped me in October.

I would be grateful if anyone had any tips for property also :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 68 ✭✭corkres1989

Treasure trove came up last year and it was unlikely that year so I highly doubt it would pop up again even though it is a lovely question!
I think Family property is a big one as it didn't come up last year and it was meant to...I don't have last years paper with me so correct me if I'm wrong on the Family property question.

    Hi guys

Does anyone have an up to date contract grid?
What are the topics needed to be covered for contract/there seems to be alot!

Also just another tip on injunctions questions- other than interloc injunctions, the other injunctions aren't as dense to cover i.e. mareva injunction however expect to be asked a bit of a twist on the question. In March's Equity & Trust question I'm sure everyone jumped with happiness in their seat to see the words mareva injunction as it was predicted to come up but then were met with an additional part to the question something along the lines of "..discuss how mareva injunctions can be used in successful modern day debt recovery litigation" haha.. so you'd need to think outside the box in that!

Hey, anyone with some advice on EU and Constitutional? What form do your answers take? Or how how do you approach the questions? These subjects scare the hell out of me. Rrally want to get going to Blackhall in September.

Has anyone got any advice on how to approach studying company law?

He asks the same types of questions the whole time so just make sure you know his line of questioning. Know SLP, Directors and Borrowing inside out as these are his favourite topics. Then cover the rest in priority...only need to do restrictions in restrictions and disqualifications as he doesn't tend to ask that. He also tends to ask a prob question on share transfer and/or the nature of a share.

I'm doing company in this sitting and I have a manual from 2014 that was given to me - is buying the 2015 manual worth it, for reference to the new act? Sat down this morning to study and realised I'd have to change all the references 😭

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 68 ✭✭corkres1989

Got Equity rechecked and actually went down 1 mark. I didn't think that was even possible?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 65 ✭✭Scarymary13
