Ah, I was going to go with the new car (when I get it, that is) but I'm best man that day. Actually I'm the best man every man, but that day it's official.

I'll most likely be up North with fellow ST'ers at a Fast Ford featured rolling road day that day at East Coast Customs.

Nice idea though, should be a good day out!

You're in a Golf, I'd wager it'll make between 205-210, the VAG stuff is nearly always on the money

The air intake is in bits though, so it's likely that will be replaced soon. If I can convince my insurer not to dump me, a 3" downpipe and a remap will be in order to, but they're down the road a good way.

i'll start the bidding at 218bhp so :D

You dont need to be there for 10, it will probably run until around 2 if there's 20 cars so if you cant make it till abit later that's fine

Away on a stag that weekend which is a pity as previous Boards dyno days were great craic. Well worth going to even if you just have a standard/normal car.

Made stock figures IIRC, which he was fairly surprised about! He also found out it was delimited on the way home :pac:

Also I reckon you'll have some serious trouble dyno'ing the SMG M3

There's no issue with DSG, ive seen Joe run and map them on the rollers before.

Not sure about the SMG box though, can it be held in gear?

  • Subscribers Posts: 6,408 ✭✭✭conzy

Yeah in manual mode it will rev out in every gear

Source: Serious smiles per gallon at the wheel :o

    Any tips for pre-dyno servicing?
I'm so curious to find out what I've got, I'll be happy if I've still got around 65bhp to be honest. :o

What makes you say that out of interest? Was only wondering earlier if I was going to have issues with the DSG.

Came across it when doing a bit of googling, issues with the SMG box because it uses wheel speed sensors for gear changes etc. It kicks the car into limp mode and enables a 6500RPM limit.

Apparently sometimes it won't go past 2nd gear on a dyno because the front wheels aren't moving.

There seems to be a few workarounds but there's nothing definitive as to what will work, and it seems to vary depending on the year and region too.

Option 1: Switch ignition to position 2, press DSC button for 8-10 seconds, no longer than this. Turn car on and dyno.

Option 2: Switch ignition to position 2, press DSC button for 20 seconds, no longer than this. Turn car on and dyno.

Option 3: Pull fuses 33, 56, and 61 - results in the dash looking like a christmas tree but should work. Some reports of it giving lower results though

It's not just the M3 SMG, it also affects manuals. The problem is it's missing two front wheel rotation readings so it thinks your car is stuck with the rear wheels spinning so it'll limit the car to 6500rpm and not 8000rpm to protect the engine.

To enable dyno-mode you can use a BMW GT1 or do what the A-Ltuning.com folks on M3cutters recommend which is turn key to position 2, hold DSC for 8-10 seconds and then press Sport on the middle console then start it up.

Car should be grand, no promises it'll beat the denzel though - she's in need of some love :P

Usually a good laugh. I'll hopefully have 2 races under my belt at that stage so it'll be nice to male sure all is well with the car.

Yep sold to a guy who sold it the next day for breaking. Waste of a good car IMO. But I did sell it within 6hrs of posting on DD.

I might drop down to this with the 850CSi, still trying to get it over a certain BHP target..
