I use Loctite Premium gasket/sealant http://www.halfords.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_11101_catalogId_15551_productId_173106_langId_-1_categoryId_212519 seems to do the job, Loctite aviation gasket is very good if you can find it. More or less any gasket sealant should work for you as they are designed to work on water pumps and fuel pumps so should be no problem.

You should be fine, when your done before you add the oil use a bike pump and pump about 10psi through the oil vent or filler and hold the gear casing under water and look for any leaks. When you buy new gear oil you can get a little hose that screws into the oil filler this is what I use to connect to the pump other than that you might have get a bolt that fits and drill a hole through it a fit it to the pump.

i think we've crossed lines, I am sealing two havles of a crankcase , so mainfold area opened and head removed.I've installed new rings on the pistons as it was getting tired over the years......I'm not working with the gearcase at all....

A right I'm getting my cases mixed up as I'm working on a gear casing :D loctite 515 or 518 would be better for the crankcase.

Cheers Fergal, you can go back to gearcase land now...

I'll swap with you I bet your crankcase smells better than my water filled gearcase, my stomach is not able for it after the weekend :(
