These guys should be taking very very seriously.

If anyone hasn't heard of them this is what they do.

Yeah, they might redirect a Government site to Goatse on ED, or even worse, just DDoS a site no one actually uses!

I usually appreciate the sentiment, but they don't have a good hit or miss ratio.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,447 ✭✭✭Calhoun

They really need to get someone cool like Hugo Weaving to do the voice overs no one is going to take a teenage sounding robot seriously.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,797 ✭✭✭KyussBishop

Taking down a bunch of government sites nobody uses isn't going to make much of a statement; they could do what other anon groups have done, and actually hack into places looking for information in the public interest, but then that's likely to actually piss someone off enough to investigate it, and some of these guys have already been arrested, so probably not a huge chance of that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,228 ✭✭✭Chairman Meow

Oh no, a DDOS attack on the governments website, i just hope we all survive in one piece.

Doesnt mention there though that they have the attention span of a gnat. I do think they can be effective but i really doubt anything will come of this and they will probably have moved onto some other injustice in a few hours of posting this

Last night I took my Grandfather's old gun that he used in the civil war out of its case, oiled it, and checked to see that it still worked. This morning I tearfully embraced my wife and children for what may be the last time. I'm ready to defend this country against the Asperger Army.

It would be nice if they revealed a lot of info about the goings on but I'm not terrible optimistic.

The most dangerous about them is some of them have ratted out wannabe helpers to government to save their own skins,

Next most dangerous thing is getting people in trouble because the stuff they asked them to do didn't include the important bit bit about covering your tracks (ie. getting some chump to take the rap).

The average person has more to fear if they stand with them than get in their way.

They have no idea what's going on. A few ddos attacks is worthless, they'll never hack in to the government servers and actually gain information.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,041 ✭✭✭Seachmall

Anonymous would be much more intimidating if their video production values hadn't dropped to such a poor level over the last few years.

LOL thinking the irish government has anything important stored on servers, were still transitioning from a rock and chisel to paper

Don't be daft, all the sensitive info is safe as it's being stored un-encrypted on laptops

I'd be a lot more impressed with them if they weren't Anonymous! I don't hide my face or distort my voice when I go to vote or go to my TD's office to complain in person!

Anonymous will not change the Government!

The voters of this Country will change it!

If you read the Boards.ie Charters One of the very first things it say is no one is Anonymous here and there is no freedom of speech here either!

It also states personal info cannot be posted! So therefore I have no choice on this site other than to post anonymously!

I am also not threating the Irish Government anonymously!

I protest in public where anyone can ask me my name and I will give it freely and state the reason I am there protesting.

Anonymous often act in an illegal manner, if they made their identities known they'd be a one-hit wonder group as those within Ireland would quickly be rounded up and booted up the arse.

And the point of being anonymous is that they could be anyone and everyone. By not disclosing identities they can create an image of being in every crevice of society.

    Haven't you seen Fight Club?

And what is the First Rule of Fight Club!? (Don't talk about it! Which I wish they would do,not talk about it.)

Seems they can't even stick to there own rules!

Well they can't be everyone because they are not me!

Unless of course I am just saying that to throw Government off my trail!;)

Rumours are emerging that Enda Kenny has cancelled his planned meeting with Barack Obama, and is flying back to Ireland to deal with this enormous threat to our sovereignty.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,407 ✭✭✭Dartz

The problem Anonymous has is that everyone can be Anonymous.

    I could be Anonymous.

    You could be Anonymous.

Enda ****ing Kenny might be Anonymous.

That is it's power. And it's critical flaw. There's nothing stopping some random gob****e from just grabbing a mask and running down the streets with a protest sign claiming to be Anonymous and part of the big collective whole. And quietly hoping someone will follow as some sort of stand alone complex.

I would like to see Anonymous do *something*. But they seem more concerned with more emotive issues.

Why does he need notes when it is a voice over talking? This also seems like another video I saw from them but with different content. I am guessing this is a stock video now.

If they honestly could do anything more than DDOS I would be happy, but unless the bomb the dail then who cares?

As bluewolf posted above they were pretty instrumental in exposing alot of what was going on during the stuebenville rape case

yes because anon are threatening our sovereignty.

Jesus christ. This all from the same people who would be first to moan about the government.

Ha! Fianna Fail **** up we vote Fine Gael.....They make things worse and apparently Fianna Fail's popularity has risen.....The Irish never learn.

The Irish have had quite enough of ugly young men with oily hair disguising themselves behind masks and coded messages whilst threatening the sovereignty of this country.

The difference between then and now is that some of them ugly young men starved themselves to death is a failed effort to garner sympathy, while the type of miscreant who associate with anonymous today tend to stuff their anti-social faces with bellybuster pizzas.

So in other words, a few government websites will go down for an hour or two. The Power Structure must be really trembling.

I generally appreciate them and the sentiment though.
