Ai service disapointed

I'm through with using ai service on cows
I've had nothing but problems and I've switched twice. First problem was when a springer ( chaorlaois x) in calf to a Aberdeen Angus calved a white chaorlaois. She's red.
2 nd problem when I ring and ask for a certain bull I'm told they don't have it but so and so is an easy calver also. I then look up said easy calver in book to find he's graded 1 star as a hard calver

Next problem last year a cow that was supposed to get an easy calving chaorlaois calved a massive Belgian blue which nearly killed both her and calf and required the vet to calve her and calf was left with permanent limp

Today a cow in calf supposedly to an Aberdeen Angus has calved a chaorlaois

I've had enough and going back to the old fashioned bull man. At least you see what your getting. Anyone else having problems or have I just been unlucky ?

Have you no comeback on the places you got the AI from? Surely if you order one thing, and get something else, you're entitled to a refund/compensation?

Tbh. Im just completely fed up with them. I can't see how a black Aberdeen Angus can produce a white chaorlaois. I may be wrong but I seriously doubt I am. And the " she went with the mother" answer doesn't really hold up when a Belgian blue is produced lol from 2 chaorlaois. I'm just going back to the bull man. They mightn't have a big selection but you see what your getting.

    Technician or DIY?

Do you by any chance check the used AI straws? I would check most of them to be sure.
Did you breed the cows yourself?

Its being a while since we used a ai tec man "we do diy ai now" but do you not get a receipt with each insemination if so you must have some come back.As for them telling you a bull is easy calving but not am afraid thats just fob n a sale on ya.If you think it would be visable you should do your own ai, the only mistake i made doing it was i did not do it years before..

yes the cows are from a line that we have for decades. I always go for easy calvers so its sickening when the poor cow calves a calf far to big for her. i would never choose a belgian blue bull but even a blind man could see that calf was a belgian blue. yes i get the receipyt with the bull code but the straw should have been an easy calving chaorlais. The thing that maddens me is when you ring with the code you want and they tell you oh i dont have him today but so and so is an easy calfer too. twice ive come home to hear that and dad was silly enough to say ok so (wasnt there at the time, on another part of farm fencing). i then check up to find that besides being an easy calfer he only has 1 star i.e as difficult as it gets. i now tell him that if he doesnt have the code we want then dont get any from him. im definately not getting them this year

TBH i've never heard of straws being misslabeled. not saying it has not happened in this case but there would be checks and balances to make sure somthing like that does not happen at the AI station. the only way to take it further would be do start DNA testing. you could try kicking up a fuss but if your wrong you'll have to be prepared to pay for the testing yourself.

I don't pay to much attention to the stars for calving value. I just look at the % difficulty and so long as it is less than 6% for cows i'd be happy enough. even for most hiefers i'd be happy enough really. I know plenty would disagree and say less than 2/3% for for hiefers.

It sounds like your very unhappy with your service so change it. either change technican or go DIY.

I'd think its rare alright for a straw to be mislabeled. But mistakes can easily be made when the AI man pulls out the straw, the writing is so small and the codes can be very similar. I know I mixed up LLX (Lim bull)and LSX (Blonde bull). I've often seen our own AI man rubbing the frost off a straw and squinting his eyes to see the code on it!
Only a few year ago we had a PB Charolais heifer calve a BB calf, she was supposed to be carrying a Lim or a BA, I cant remember now. Super bull he turned out too! This was after we (nearly always) check the empty straws, he still got through under the radar .

We run an AA stock bull with CHX cows and id say 8 times out of ten the calfs are white. Its not uncommon.
