Call for Submissions

Femme Fairy is a writing and art zine based around the theme of fairy tales with strong female characters - both original stories as well as classics retold will feature to show that damsels can get themselves out of distress and it still makes a good story! The zine will be launched in the summer of 2013 and the art created for the zine will be exhibited.

The name "Femme Faery" was chosen as a play on "Femme Fatale."

We are currently seeking submissions of creative writing, art, and of writing and art together for our first issue. We are looking for both original fairy tales and classic fairy tales reimagined and retold. The only criteria is that these fairy tales must have strong female characters but must not be overtly political – they should still be fairy tales!

Please keep stories below 2,500 words. Submissions should be sent, via email, to fairiesforfeminists@gmail.com, in word or PDF format, by 30 April.

We are also always interested in hearing from people who would be interested in volunteering to help get this new zine off the ground, whether on the design, editorial or production side. Interested parties should email us or ask to join our Femme Fairy group on facebook.
