Like larger breasts? = you hate women!!

....if you are a white man anyway! (see article)

Apparently, if you are a man and your preference is for a larger chest size you are not only sexist but you are misogynistic. Makes perfect sense doesn't it?
The researchers found that the preference for larger breasts was significantly linked to overt sexism, benevolent sexism, female objectification and otherwise hostile and unpleasant views towards the fairer sex.
'Our results showed that a greater likelihood of rating a larger breast size as physically attractive was predicted by men’s oppressive beliefs,' the researchers wrote.
'Specifically, we found that men who more strongly endorsed benevolently sexist attitudes toward women, who more strongly objectified women, and who were more hostile toward women idealised a large female breast size.

What are your thoughts on this? The survey doesn't specify what constitutes a large breast size but the graphic shown doesn't depict the ridiculous. If you prefer a larger size than the first image on the graphic, do you feel you have an oppressive attitude towards women?

For the female members, do you feel men whose preference is for a larger size are oppressive, sexist or misogynistic?

To me its the usual tabloid article inferring the usual 'men are aggressors and women are victims' nonsense. Men have different tastes when it comes to women and women have the same when it comes to men.

Of course women who like tall and muscular men would never be labelled with being sexist or misandrist but lets not open that can of worms.

Real answer: It's all a load of bollocks made up by someone on the rag. People like different things.

Source? Daily Mail. Who'd have guessed?

Next week, the researchers will show that men who like having sex with women really hate them...

I did a quick Google search on these two researchers and it seems that they have somewhat of a fetish on this subject. Other research includes ''stressed men drawn to heavy women''.

Wouldn't it be great to get paid for researching a load of baloney.

Seems to me that the majority of research scientists are just a bunch of spoofers. Look at the stupid **** they do research on, make up some statistics that can't really be called conclusive or challenged easily and Ka-ching! it's easy money for feck all actual work.

Yeah, so there was no agenda or anything.

You realise that you, and people like you, can tick "no", to that question, right?

Honestly, I think basic statistics should be a secondary school subject because the abject failure of most people to understand even basic surveys is pervasive, and it's not like they don't feature in day to day life; government, research, popular media, religion...tons of common topics involve statistics.

Apparently there is a correlation between liking big breasts and having sexist attitudes. This doesn't have to say anything about you, dear boardsie, any more than statistic about smoking mean a living 90 year old smoker died of cancer when he was younger.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,798 ✭✭✭✭hatrickpatrick

Title of this is horribly misleading (not blaming OP, but the media which is reporting on the survey).

Large breasts are caused by higher estrogen levels, so liking large breasts means you like girls with more estrogen subconsciously = you like more "feminine" girls.
Truth is, this is your brain's subconscious way of judging potential fertility.

Liking feminine women does NOT make you a misogynist, regardless of what people might want to believe. I have a serious problem with people who equate being attracted to femininity as being sexist - nobody calls women who like guys with muscles and facial hair sexist for being attracted to testosterone, do they?

(For the record, I'm a boob man, but I'm not actually a man for the unnaturally massive ones myself)

I really object to this constant attempt to stigmatize human instincts which have been hard wired into us for thousands of years. Nobody is telling girls they should feel guilty for finding six pack abs sexy. As usual, it's the lads who are doing something wrong.

Actually there's a huge movement towards criticising the excessive objectification of men and the pressure for an idealised body.

Statistics ARE taught in secondary school mathematics.

Unfortunately "loaded questions" are not covered even in Media Studies as part of secondary school English curriculum.

This "study" is nothing more than a media puff piece filler.

Well judging by the silliness of this particular questionnaire, I honestly don't know. The first question is ambiguous anyway, and a yes answer would not be necessarily sexist. Teasing and hurting are two entirely different things, yet they've lumped the two of them together.

I was pointing out that it was bollocks and was laughing at its credibility. Look at that Scottish independence question - it was changed because of the way it was worded. If there's going to be genuine studies done they need to be simple and clear.

I must be a raging feminazi then cos I don't like large bewbs. :D Nice to be an outlier. To be fair I have read something similar before. IIRC it also tended to relate to class and education level. Larger bewb prefs apparently tended to mean less time in formal schooling. Leg men were apparently the more educated and successful types. Again it's nice to be an outlier as the only letters I'm ever likely to have after my name are R.I.P. :D

    EDIT here's another angle http://www.gnxp.com/blog/2008/03/traits-of-men-who-prefer-breasts-booty.php For moby types;

Those who preferred the small figure tend to persevere in their work. They are not cynical about authority and reported coming from an upper-class background. Although the small figure was generally disliked by the present group of subjects (Table 1), it very well may be a preferred type among members of the upper class (Moore, Stunkard, & Srole, 1962) as suggested by the present data.

Oops I'm an outlier yet again. I'm highly cynical of authority and persevere in my work? I'll refer you to my academic achievements aforementioned... :)

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Oh gee, how about by designing a proper scientific survey that asks questions from a neutral position as opposed to deliberately leading questions?

Better questions make for better answers, otherwise you end up with a conclusive theory which supports your original hypothesis that "white Brits like big tits!".

Hardly ground breaking rocket science that's going to win any Nobel prizes any time soon, is it?

The Sun is one of Britain's biggest selling tabloids, Page 3 is practically a British institution.

You hardly need some silly survey to tell you that men find women who look feminine more attractive than androgynous looking women.

I'd always steer away from a girl that has the body of a 13 yr old boy. Knightly is hideous IMO.

They need to ask unambiguous questions. Easier said than done, perhaps, but this questionnaire is absolutely terrible from the little I have seen of it.
