Does anyone know a mother who is taller than her grown son?

Apparently it's almost impossible for a fully grown male to be smaller in height than his own mother. Somebody told me this in the pub last week and I still hane not been able to think of any guy who is smaller than their mother,same height is allowed but not smaller,now think about all the sons and mothers you know and honestly tell me if you have come up with the exception because it's very very rare.

and a daughter who is rougly 5ft10-5ft11

Maybe genetically it shouldn't happen, but if a mother doesn't get enough vitamin D when pregnant or the son has health problems growing up, then it can?

Yes. The mother in this case is taller than the father and the adult son is in between.

Statistically it may not happen very often but it is not a hard and fast biological rule.

My brother in law is a few inches shorter than his mother. He's about 5 foot 5 and she's 5 foot 7

I thought of a few like this too Lukesmom but when I looked a bit deeper into it in every case the woman was wearing heels that made her look that bit taller! In bare feet the mother was always smaller, of course I am not saying that is the same in your case but check it out anyway!:pac:

You really need to factor in the father's height into the equation.

Sounds a bit like you only inherit baldness from your mother's side ( or is it the other way around) - that's not true either.

Now, it's uncommon for a father to be smaller than the mother (woman don't like to mate with smaller men), and therefore the son is likely to be taller than the mother. Nutrition is better now than in past generations, which would also be a factor.

But as a hard and fast rule, it's not true.

I don't believe it's solely about the height of the mother and father that determine the height of their child. Both my mom and dad are the same height, fairly short tbh, and I'm nearing 6'1.

Of course I could also be the postman's son

I'm taller than my mother by about 8 inches but my hands are smaller than hers marginally and smaller than both my grandmothers too. The weird thing is my Dad has fairly big hands. It's like a curse of small hands.

Unfortunately I'm similar to my dad in too many ways for that to be true, but here's hoping anyway

I think it's predominantly better nutrition because they're about 5'6. The generation that preceded the last one are all much taller with most being closer to 6ft and myself and one of my cousins of the same age being over it.

No honestly she doesn't wear heels very often and she's definitely 2 inches taller than him with flats on. His brother is over 6 foot tall

It's one way my mam can't belittle me anyhow but only because she's so short.. we're all of an average to short height in the byrne clan, dunno my dads side but they had height, and brown eyes.

The gradually younger here definitely seem to be gradually taller so my youngest uncle and myself were 'tall' at under 5"9 but then my beanpole of a younger brother came along. And ALL the cousins are like that, male/female so am the oldest of our generation, yet the smallest so nobody really looks up to me which suits me down to the ground. Looks can be deceptive, lil ole thing called experience or dare I say it, wisdom kinda gets overlooked
