I think it should be mandatory viewing for anyone that eats meat. Meat doesn't come from a factory y'know.

    Hmm, veal calves.

Is eating baby animals wrong, where should the line be drawn?

    Is eating dogs okay?

I've killed, cooked and eaten animals. Yum. Justifies being an unrepentant meat eater.

Would I eat meat if I had to raise it, kill it, cook it and eat it? No but thats because I'm lazy not because there is anything ethicly wrong with it.

Meat comes from an abattoir where animals are killed for meat, factories process this meat, there's a difference.

I know that my meat comes from animals, in fact the less time and processing involved between the time the animal is living and breathing and the time it lands on my plate, the happier I am.

I'm happy it doesn't come from a factory.

    Meat doesn't come from a factory y'know.

Why is this the cutting edge of an argument for some people (not you OP, you're good people), peas and carrots don't come from a factory either.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 35,945 Mod ✭✭✭✭dr.bollocko

Many of us meat eaters take it very seriously. We're pretty lucky to live in a country where, in general, the quality of home produced meat is quite high. Generally you're avoiding your factory farms etc.

The concept of kill it, cook it, eat it is one I'd love to try. It's a shame we have such separation as a society from how all of our food is sourced.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,443 ✭✭✭Bipolar Joe

I firmly believe that if this were a Planet of the Cows type scenario, we would be factory processed and the cows would be meat eaters, because as a species we relied on meat for brain growth (Which explains why vegetarians are dumb :pac: :pac: ). As such, I feel it is justified to eat meat, of any variety that is served to me, and also why I haven't bitched and moaned about horse being in meat products.

Jaysus, never seen such a tirade of abuse against vegetarians in the first 2 pages of a thread. I REALLY don't understand it to be honest, the slightest mention of eating animals and people come out with all sorts of crap "feel sorry for veggies", "vegetarians are dumb" etc - who even brought vegetarianism up?

We have a reputation of ramming our opinions down people's throat but it's completely the opposite as is evident here. And just for the record (I haven't seen this programme in question) but I would fully support the idea of raising, killing and eating animals yourself - it's far better than the current system which creates several degrees of separation from the living animal to what ends up on your plate. ( and also would reduce incidents like the horse meat scandal, mad cow disease, swine flu, avian flu, etc)

Serious where does the irrational hatred of vegetarians come from?? Live and let live ffs, there's far far worse people in society to direct your hatred at.

I've seen cows born, raised and killed and butchered. Doesn't bother me in the slightest. It always strikes me as funny that if some tribesman on television takes down a boar and eats it, he is applauded for practicing his ancient culture. When farmer Joe sends another load off to the mart to be butchered we must question this. No difference. Humans evolved to kill and eat meat. We just do it differently than the bloke with the bow and arrow. How lucky we are to have a country that has grass and rain.

I personally have no problem with this program, it has sofar actually made me think more about my choice of butcher (Superquinn) and I am looking for recommendations in my area, Knocklyon D16.

There is nothing wrong with eating the meat of any animal unless of course its a protected species. Why draw a line?

Are you enjoying the moral high ground up there in the trees?

    D'ya know something?

I fúcking hate preachy vegetarians. I like meat. In fact, I fúcking love meat. Veal is fúcking delicious. Would I eat dog? Why wouldn't I? If it tastes good, it's getting ate. I'd eat fúcking long pig (human) if I had to.

Have I killed any of my meat? No. Why? I don't have to. There's an industry that does it for me.

Same reason I don't have to clean shít out of my sewers. I don't have to. There's an industry that does it for me.

Just fúck off with your holier than thou fúcking attitude, and go have a bacon sammidge. Ya never know, it might do you some good and help you deal with the fact that I don't fúcking.

Do you honestly think that if cows didn't taste so good, that they'd still be around in any great numbers?

So in essence, killing and eating beef is ensuring that they won't die out. How'd ya like them apples?

I know! I love veal! There just seems to be some kind of stigma attached to eating veal that there isn't with lamb.
