    MUNSTER 'A': J Murphy; L O'Dea, D Barnes, I Dineen, R O'Mahony; JJ Hanrahan, C Sheridan; J Cronin, S Henry, J Ryan; D Foley, P O'Connell; N Ronan, S Dougall, CJ Stander

    REPLACEMENTS: M Horan, D Casey, N Scannell, K Griffin, B Hayes, Dave O'Callaghan, B Slater, S Deasy, C Bohane, C Hircock, S Scanlon, J Holland

    LEINSTER ‘A’:

    13: Jordan Coghlan
    12: Colm O’Shea
    11: Sam Coghlan-Murray
    10: Cathal Marsh
    9: John Cooney

    1: Jack O’Connell
    2: Aaron Dundon CAPTAIN
    3: Martin Moore
    4: Mark Flanagan
    5: Quinn Roux
    6: Ben Marshall
    7: Conor Gilsenan
    8: Leo Auva’a

    REPLACEMENTS:

    16: James Tracey
    17: Jack McGrath
    18: Tadhg Furlong
    19: Tadhg Beirne
    20: Dan Leavy
    21: Adam Griggs
    22: Fionn Carr
    23: Andrew Conway
    24: David Doyle

I figure there'll be some discussion of this game from both sides so it deserves its own thread.

Leinster interest is the return of Roux, the selection of Marsh with Reid at 15, the likes of SCM and Boyle selected ahead of the likes of Conway and Carr and the continuation of Tracy at hooker. Also interesting to see O'Connell in there ahead of McGrath?

Good to see priority given to Leinster's A guys ahead of their B&I Quarter Final.

Munster interest is Hanrahan at 10, POC in the side, Stander at 8?

    EDIT: 12th of March, sorry!

Reid is final year in the academy I think, Marsh being ahead of him at 10 could be a sign that Reid is going to be let go.

Injured. If he was fit he would be recovering from a game with France prepping for a game this week against with Ireland U20 so he wouldn't be playing anyway

I'd doubt his ankle has healed yet.

Has Coghlan ever played 13 before?

Hmm maybe. Or maybe they felt he needed match time because Reid had been more involved for Leinster.

I think most likely is that Marsh is being given a chance to claim the place for the quarter final. If he does that then I don't think Reid will be kept.

Jeez, that's a strong looking Munster side for an A game!
Great to see POC back, let's hope for an extended injury-free run for him.

Nope. Strange actually, as O'Shea has before and Coughlan is pushing for his conversion to 12. I think he might get caught out at sea at 13.

Yeah that seemed strange to me as well. But that they are still playing him in the centre at all means he's obviously making progress there.

Interesting that Coghlan gets in at 13. Never seen him playing there before.

On paper, Munster side is stronger, perhaps similar to the game earlier in the year. Very young Leinster side.

Good to see Roux back too.

Good to see Griggs getting another game, what a hero. Presume Boss is off the Irish squad then.

Just out of interest, what's the weather like in Limerick and is there any chance this might not go ahead? I'm sure the last thing either set of fans want is their respective #5's getting injured on a frozen pitch...

Munster definitely have the edge in terms of experience and that Leinster backline has a thrown-together look about it, so I'd be tipping the home side here.

Snowing at the moment but not lodging and the sun is out. Would expect it to go ahead

Might as well get the excuses in early.. Leinster pack is good but that backline is a bit all over the place, and Munster's backrow/backline wouldn't look out of place in a Rabo game. Coghlan at 13 and Reid at 15 is a disaster waiting to happen, and I don't think Marsh is the strongest defender either. Munster's backline much better/more experienced, should expect a big advantage there.

Good to see some players (on both teams) coming back from injury, hopefully Leavy gets on at some point. Anyone going to the game report back!

Ah yeah you'd have to fancy Munster based on those line-ups. Having Horan involved though seems a bit mad. Do Munster not have another loosie they could be developing?

It's a nice dry day, bitterly cold breeze.

Brian Scott. Niall Horan is still recovering from a back injury

Scott was absolutely terrible in his first half for the under 20s versus wales.

The excuse given was that he is a TH playing out of position and that he had gotten injured.

Niall Horan is highly thought of though, missed the 6N with injury.

They do, however they are involved in the Ireland U20 set up afaik

Munster should walk this on paper. From a leinster point of view I'd be hoping for a good performance from SCM, he might be needed next season, having the upper hand in the scrums and Gilsenan to acquit himself well against a strong Munster back row.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

If you take an average of all the players in the Munster starting XV, the team is about equal to a competent Rabo lineup.

Could be a 15-20 point win for Munster based on those sides and bench.

No injuries please and Roux and POC to come through ok.

Munster starting side is over 2 years older per player on average than their Leinster counterparts.

Great to see Leavy on the bench after injury. Still only 18. Great talent.

    Leinster Team

    1. JOC (looks like he has assumed McGrath's role as the first string A team prop)
    2. Dundon(brings a lot of experience and leadership)
    3. Moore(good to see him get another run, needs more experience)
    4. Flanagan(continued progress returning from injury)
    5. Roux(excited to see him back)
    6. Marshall(has really impressed as of late, good option to have at 6)
    7. Gilsenan(stuck below a lot of depth but has impressed when given a chance)
    8. Leo(no other real option, would be surprised if he was still with Leinster next season, effective at this level)
    9. Cooney(with Reddan out, time for him to really show he is ready)
    10. Marsh(spotlight shifting to him, interested to see how he goes)
    11. SCM(great form for UCD, can he translate?)
    12. O'Shea(just returning from injury)
    13. Coghlan(interesting selection, biggest question mark)
    14. Boyle(good form for UCD, can he translate?)
    15. Reid(jury is in on him as a 10, is he a 15?)
    16. Tracy(interested to see how his conversion from LH prop is going)
    17. McGrath(obvious cover and experience of the bench)
    18. Furlong(excited to see him get any time)
    19. Beirne(pretty sure he has spent most the year trying to bulk up)
    20. Leavy(recently returned from injury, exciting talent)
    21. Griggs(don't know much about him, older NZ guy)
    22. Carr(experience on the bench)
    23. Conway(experience on the bench)
    24. Doyle(recently returned from injury)

    15. Reid(jury is in on him as a 10, is he a 15?)

the problem for reid is he doesnt really have a position , certainly not a quality 10 imo

He also plays 12 at senior level.

Honestly the only thing I care about is POC comes through this. Everything else is secondary tbh.

Donnacha Ryan seems to have struggled with shoulder problems in the last while, if he's missing for Quins then we need POC back asap.

Looks like O'Shea is out. Coughlan to 12, Reid to 13, Conway to 15 and D Fanning (?) on the bench. Seems strange that Reid is moving to 13 and not 12. A mistake by the Twitter machine maybe?

Coughlan had played at 12 earlier in the season, rather than 13, so maybe they're moving him back to his more natural position?

Match updates on Leinster twitter; https://twitter.com/leinsterrugby, presumably on Munster feed as well.

I'd say they'll move around. TBH I'm surprised EOM didn't feature, he needs all the game time he can get, unless he's in the Irish setup again.

That would be Patrick O'Driscoll, the Lansdowne scrum-half - he has started in most of their matches this season as Cooney has been away so much. A good player with a quick pass and a very reliable box-kicking game. It's good to see someone like him on the subs bench.
