€800 would be a lot. €700 would be enough. They are nice heifers but if they still sucking their mothers at 11 months it would seem that fertility is not a trait in huge abundance in their mothers.

    Sounds like a fuse.
Know nothing about quads but it's unlikely the battery will go from ok, to showing
No lights in a short time.

    Fuses !

Hi All, do any of you have a jointly owned herd number? Myself and my dad currently have some cattle with an uncle, we are considering getting a number and leasing some land close by to build up a small herd. I pay some high bracket PAYE so would be tax efficient for me for the first three years but if my Dad was selling animals we would need to sort out his tax liability, he is recently retired and will buy some Autumn calving cows if we can get sorted out in time.
Any advice or ref material greatly appreciated.

You can get ad block programs that'll make them go away, won't do anything for your fungus though :D

Seems to be raining every where except over my land. Only a drip that wouldn't wet the ground. Got the nitrogen out on the after grass though. Should be nice grass in a few weeks.

Went to spread ~10 bags of fertiliser this evening and met two seperate neighbouring farmers who I don't meet that often. By the time I got to hook up the spreader it was too dark to go at it. Murphy's law it will be lashing in the morning:rolleyes:.

We'll all be a long time dead, wouldn't worry about it ;) Isn't early morning supposed to be dry? Have at it then.

How much is one of these worth?

    http://www.donedeal.ie/beefcattle-for-sale/28-reared-bull-calves/5299471

Current vasectomised bull squared up to me this evening so will be castrated by the end of reading the herd test on thursday.

Started spreading slurry at 5, 2 mile draw with 1350 gal tanker, 35 min cycle time, long morning ahead, really enjoying this bowl of cornflakes though :)

True, cornflakes, shredded cardboard weetabix, toast or other similar junk won't get any work done.

Best brekkie I had in a long time was actually a fancy burger in Galway city, was a very late brekkie just before noon but kept me going until after 9pm no complaints.

Eat like a King in the morning, a Prince at noon and a Pauper in the evening.

After a busy few days here, herd test done and passed calves dosed, second cut done and some FYM out aswell.

As I'd them in for the test got them scanned aswell, all incalf bar one and vet said she'd be bulling today so going to give her a chance, a great relief to have it done. Alot to be said for having a bull for sucklers, it can rain away now for awhile.

i used to be a protein worshiper, liver for breakfast, run 3km then go to work. Bit out of practice now though.

Cannot stomach sugar at all in the morning, 2 or 3 strong(and I mean strong) coffees and I'm good to go. Prob should have carb brekky but I'm sure I'm not the only one who can't face food once they get up?
