A totally unenforceable piece of legislation.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/news/9917189/MEPs-to-vote-on-EU-ban-on-all-forms-of-pornography.html

'The proposal "calls on the EU and its member states to take concrete action on discrimination against women in advertising... [with] a ban on all forms of pornography in the media".

Kartika Liotard, a Dutch left-wing feminist MEP, is seeking "statutory measures to prevent any form of pornography in the media and in advertising and for a ban on advertising for pornographic products and sex tourism", including measures in the "digital field"
    .

Just another symptom of overbearing political correctness which is little by little restricting freedom of speech and expression.

Interesting to see how the Irish MEP's vote !

The MEPs are also demanding the establishment of state sex censors with "a mandate to impose effective sanctions on companies and individuals promoting the sexualisation of girls".

Fucking idiots always using that point that doesn't even hold up any more.

And besides, not all porn even has women in it, so all of it should get banned as a result?

There has been a turn hasn't there? I guess everybody want to improve society in their own image but it seems more common in the left to try and force it onto you.

The right just tells you to get out if you don't like it:P
    Pornographic products

That's the dildos gone. True, men use them also, but the vast majority of the buyers are women.

    To quote Dr. Perry Cox:

"I'm pretty sure if you took all the porn off the internet, there'd only be one site left, and it'd be called 'Bring Back the Porn!'."

You could argue that men are far more sexualised than women in straight porn. All a man is in them is his cock, nothing more.

They get payed feck all in comparison to women as a result of that too, yet did they ever factor that into their decision to ban porn?

It's just the tired aul "the poor women are nothing but sex objects" argument from the 50's all over again.

Men watch porn and women also watch porn. Can't believe they don't seem to get that.

Hope this applies to discrimination in men in advertising too, didn't you know all men are dangerous driving rapists who can't work washing machines?

Fight and you may die. Run and you will live at least awhile. And dying in your bed many years from now, would you be willing to trade all the days from this day to that for one chance, just one chance, to come back here as young men/women and tell our enemies that they may take our lives but they will never take our FAPPING!!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,846 ✭✭✭Fromthetrees

I like the idea of desexualising society in general, it's a good thing to keep sexual explicitness off the tv before the watershed and off ads out in public where children can be exposed to them.

    But.

Trying to ban porn and sex between consenting adults is as crazy a thing as you can get. Grown up adults must be free to choose what they want to do.

Funny that Holland - once the centre of sexual licence and legalisation of prostitution should produce this kinda politician.

    Or maybe not.

In any case it's one voice in the EU. Not the entire parliament.

I'd argue you can't ever completely understand all the various views in the umbrella term of feminism, as I view at as theory, or solutions, or even personal opinions, rather than an ideal that seeks to improve women's rights.

She is aware her country would go broke in a week right? I mean seriously, the only things the Netherlands have going for it is flowers, weed, prostitution and ingenuitive use of attics!

So she doesn't like women being "sexualised" in the media, does this mean no more shirtless men in Diet Coke ads and A&F ads, since you know, equal rights and all? Clearly an ugly harpy annoyed that other women are able to make a few Euro from their appearance!

productivity and the economy would increase x 10.
men would start reading and thinking and inventing.

but violent assaults would increase too.

kleenex sales would remain the same....but for the first time since the 90's they'd be mostly used for tears.

'Left wing' doesn't necessarily mean socially liberal, as much as right wing doesn't necessarily mean socially conservative.

As for the porn thing, as much as there are many, many, many problems with porn, any law trying to prevent information passing through the internet is doomed to failure. The person who proposed this is either trying for some media coverage or really doesn't understand the internet.

And the comments about feminism and feminists are so predictable and depressing.
