Just checking if its normal for a 3-5 second delay when selecting a hd channel before the picture settles properly and you can watch?

No problem for me. Would guess it's your TV changing picture modes

There's often been a delay of 3+ seconds for me when switching to HD channels, nothing unusual there.

Make sure your HDMI resolution is set to 1080i not Automatic on your box

Menu - Settings - TV settings

There's less than a second when I change from a SD to HD channel

Not so much a 3 second delay in changing channel, as the picture appearing instantly but paused for 3 seconds. I'd imagine this is the higher bandwidth HD stream buffering before it starts playing as opposed to hdmi/resolution switching delay.

I had a similar issue on this. What I went into the box settings I changed the HD setting from 1080 to 720. Issue went away then!
