New Seat Leon

Reviews of the mark 3 Leon look promising.

    http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/seat/leon/63034/seat-leon-sc-20-tdi-fr

Was tempted by the new golf offers VW are pushing but I may just hold off to see the new Leon FR model - they're making a 1.4 diesel FR pushing out around 150bhp and road tax at around €200. currently driving a mark 2 1.6 petrol and fine it grand albeit a bit noisy + tax at €455.

What annoys me is how far behind Ireland still is regarding the spec of new cars. In the uk you can add the technology pack to your order and get a whole host of additionals for ~£500, over here its not even an option. It's a complete joke. I will seriously consider going to the uk if the Seat garages over here aren't doing the business.

Asked one dealer over the phone what kind of spec was on the FR he had compared to the uk he said he hadn't a clue

    It certainly is beautiful - like a Focus / A-Class / A3 sandwich :)

    I like it a LOT.

Wish I had the money lying around to get an FR when it's out.

There is a pack I think to match this for around €800 on the configurator.

To be honest it had the LED lights on the FR model that are extra (STG£995) in the UK.

It looks to be cracking value for money compared to a Golf. Simiar spec highline Golf diesels are about 4.5k more than the Leon.

I'd never buy anything with Seat or VW wrote on it again, their dealers/service agents and after sales service is terrible.

That's a Cupra, not an FR though.

Has anyone else ever noticed that the newer Seat styling is remarkably similar to that of the older Alfa's..

    Alfa 147: http://www.alfaworkshop.co.uk/images/7-3-800.jpg
    Leon: http://www.motorstown.com/images/seat-leon-fr-03.jpg

Very similiar lights, bumper reflectors and design overall and thats not just the back... take the fronts:

    Alfa: http://www.autogaleria.pl/tapety/img/alfa_romeo/alfa_romeo_156_2003_01_m.jpg
    Leon: http://static.autoexpress.co.uk/sites/autoexpressuk/files/styles/gallery/public/images/car_photo_522826.jpg

Asaik there is not affiliation between the 2 is there?

That pic is a concept anyway as far as I know. The general look of the leon has matured a good bit but hasn't gone all soft like the Astra.

The Seat garage in Blanch has an FR there at the minute. Might shoot over and take a look. It'l be interesting what kind of finance package seat are doing, Skoda doing 0% apr.

The Alpha designer worked on the mark 2 leon and this one. As soon as I seen the back window on the new leon I though of the Brera.

The FR is a beaut, we've three of them downstairs at the moment :)

I would have loved a new Leon but having been burned on VAG products in the past I decided against it. I think they should have been a bit braver on the styling though as if anything it's gotten a bit more...boring...although boring may be a bit harsh.

If the Cupra looks anything like the above I will definitely be in the market for one! I went and took a look at the FR in the Seat garage in Blanchardstown at the weekend and was very impressed. Glad to see they've improved the interior which was a horrible place to be in the last one.

Apart form the performance figures the last Cupra was such a disappointment over the mk1 Cupra which was a class car. Will be expecting big things from the new Cupra.

Nice exterior, rubbish dashboard. Usual VW ploy of trying to get you into a Golf.

I'd take the white the engine is already ran in.

Could have had the hoop driven out of it, both cars updated over a month ago so could have more, dunno if its those actual cars either.

    I'd probably prefer white.

Im not actually buying either of these they are just for colour reference id be ordering a new one

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,865 ✭✭✭✭MuppetCheck

The black FR on carzone with the 18 inch wheel upgrade is the nicest I've seen by far.

May as well get the colour you like if it's a new car. I'm getting white on a car soon, it was that or red that I wanted but the main reason for white was to hide stone chips and the like.

Why has the toledo turned into a horrible sh1t box? It used to be a larger car. Now its a skoda rapid.

It used to be an updated 80s Jetta, then it was a Leon with an awkward looking boot, then it became a Seat Altea with a slightly different boot door. Now as you say, its a Skoda Rapid.

I wouldn't be too shocked, its hardly been a natural evolution through the years. More of an afterthought.

Actually, when you think about it, the Toledo has come full circle.

Can't imagine it would date quickly but white tends to come and go, popularity wise. Tbh I'd never go for a white car as it would show an scratch instantly and trying to keep the thing clean and free of great big tar marks would take forever! They're a lovely looking car, I'd go for a red one. :)

I liked it when it was a Leon with an awkward looking boot..... Maybe that's just the felt coming out though :o

Maybe I'll grow to like this one too after a while :)

Fantastic looking car, best of luck OP. As usual with VW they have screwed Seat on the interior, looks like an old Austin Maestro to me.

I sat in one recently and at least this time the quality is there and the design is useful. In the previous Leon if you got an arm rest for example you lost 2 cup holders and were left with a small one that wouldn't fit a can of 33cl can in properly. Not to mind the scratchy plastics.

The cup holders in the Altea are the same, most travel mugs don't fit in them if they have a handle on the side and you can't get a coke bottle into them.

So the new FR TDI, is that still using the PD 170 or is it using the CR(?)170? Has this engine still got the same tandem pump that blows oil back into the fuel filter when the seals go? What kind of flywheel is in it? Is there a DPF?
Basically, is it prone to give the same problems that the PD gave? Oh, injectors....whats gonna happen with them?

It's a common rail, don't know if it's a relation of the older generation or an all new engine. The PD's are gone since 08/09 way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 501 ✭✭✭FR85

I didn't know if they were still building the PD's and throwing them into random cars. I mate across the road has an 10 Octavia RS with a PD in it, it might have been one of the last made but an injector sat down in it the other day.

I do like the look of the inside, I didn't like the mkII Leon, the ctr. console looked wall like!!
    Some nice shapes in there........

RS's changed mid 2008 to CR so that car could have been sat up a while. If it was a facelift it should be CR.

If his injector packed in and it's a PD there's a goodwill replacement available.

I have a PD, the injectors were replaced under the re-call and one is starting to go again less then a year later and a nice man in VW Customer Care told me no, they had gone as far as they were willing to and that is was my problem now.....
I can name and shame and produce emails if needs be.

I hope the CR engine is better, really do

According to the configurator on seat.ie the FR uses the 110bhp diesel, what a load of balls. How can they give the supposed sport hatch a 110bhp diesel?

I doubt we will ever see a performance petrol model in Ireland unless its imported.

I wonder will there be a Leon SC Cupra, that could be a nice option instead of a golf gti.

    There isn't any 110bhp diesel, the FR's are 151bhp.

From looking at the UK configurator it seems FR is little more than a badge saying Sport on it or something these days as it can also be had with the 1.4tsi.

I always think it's funny here on boards when people consider "number of cup holders" to be such a key factor! :D

My golf has 5 cup holders.... ooooh yeaaaaaahhhhh ;)

Just checked again, Leon 2.0 CR FR 5d 110 DN4 6-s. configurator could be wron but that's what's listed.

Well when you're in the car 3 hours a day it makes a difference. I like getting a coffee for the drive to work and it was the most annoying for me. It was only an example, there are plenty of others adding to my grumpiness:D

The climate control buttons were too small, the arm rest itself is cheap and an aftermarket thought in the design, door pockets are tiny, the dash reflects very badly on the windscreen in sunlight and the a pillars are a pain to see around. It's almost as if it was designed deliberately that way as to not steal sales from VW.
