I have 13 and 28 degees working for free to air and Hotbird, which I really enjoy as it satisfies my needs for sport and regular TV.

Looking ahead to next year with the inevitable changes I was just wondering if I had a 1m dish what options would be open to me in Cork?

I'm assuming 16 and 19 without issues, but what about 26?

    Have I assumed correctly?

Any thoughts would be appreciated, or maybe a point in the right direction.

I tried checking some maps but I have java disabled so I was unable to view them.

    Hi,

I think my dish is Triax 1.1m (but it might be just 1m) and I can get 26 in Dublin.

At the moment Im getting, 28, 26, 19, 16, 13 and 7 (although there is absolutly nothing on 16 or 7)

    Will be trying soon to get, 39, 28, 26, 23.5, 19 and 16

Out of curiousty, what size dish you got at the moment?

if you've only got it connected to 1 receiver than why not consider a motor. I had to take my motor off as my 1.1m is connected to 3 receivers. I used to get a hell of a lot with a motor.

I have 2 60cm dishes at the minute, but I could replace one of them with a bigger one if needs be, but 1m could be the max before I get complaints from herself.

Herindoors aint going to notice an extra 10cm :)

anyway, you could always argue, 1 dish is better than 2 and the 2 you have add up to 120cm so you are getting rid of 10cm and 1 dish :)

    get the dish here:

or here if you like spending extra money:

    you will also need this:

13 is perfect, crystal clear, never have a problem even in the worst weather. It's good for sport and some films. I have a Cyfra+ and Al Jazzera subscription and they are fantastic imo. (great value too)
I'm not sure what's going to happen after Christmas this year, that's why I want to increase my options if I can.

What about 19, is reception good for you and are the channels available any good? Do you have any subscriptions?

    Easy question first

i have no subscriptions. Was for years an mds subscriber with UPC but packed it in last summer. Went FTA last august and finding my feet.

Re 19 perfect reception mostly german channels many in HD so for me I have champions league, europa league and formula 1. Very happy with that.

in addition I have french TNTsat box connected as well which i bought in France for €150 very little football but plenty of H Cup rugby on it.
    regards

Cyfra is the cheapest sub (and best IMO) and Im sure they will have new packages after the merger.

BTW - there is no Premiership Football on 26 (if thats what your after)

cant remember which, but one of the German stations on 19 has been showing FA CUP football this season too FTA - dont know about this weekend though, check out www.liveonsat.com

Also Kooga, it will cost you no money to change the position of your dish from 19 to 13. Or buy a bigger dish and you can have 28, 19, 16 and 13

I'm not too worried about Premier League TBH, the odd Saturday 3pm or an early kick off is nice to watch, but I find myself down the local watching the games I want to see in that competition.

Champions League and other European Leagues interest me especially if I can get English commentary. Not always possible I know.

On a side note I thought Abu Dhabi Sport was on 26 and they show PL I think?

The premier league rights are up for grabs and there are rumours about Al Jazeera for example changing their setup, some people even seem to think they will stop broadcasting on 13.

Cyfra have merged with another crowd so no one really knows if we will be able to purchase pre paid cards over here in the future.

Most of it is rumour and conjecture, I'm just looking to future proof a bit, increase viewing options and I'm looking for a new project to try.

PL on Abu Dhabi is correct - but cannot be accessed here. Its either (cant rememer which) geoblocked or the card only works in certian boxes - I think that there might be ways to get it using a proxy server, but you will have to google that

Most people here use Cyfra, so Im sure if we could get Abu Dhabi (coz they show every single match) we would be using them

As far as I know you have to buy a receiver with the card. But I wouldn't be interested anyway.

Yes rumour is that Al Jazeera will leave Hotird but they are on Arabsat/Badr 26 - but Al azeera do not have PL

Cyfra, Im sure packages will still e availale here - but yes, its a wait and see - they still have the PL rights as far as I know. As do Au Dhabi in the ME and NA.

What would be the main satellites that you'd get on a 1.1m that you wouldn't get on a 80cm?

26 would be the main one I think

but the advantage of the 1.1 is you can get 6 sats with it eg 28, 26, 19, 16, 13, 9/10

    or

    39, 28, 26, 23.5, 19 and 16

    or

    39, 36, 33, 28, 26, 19

    various combinations

I'm not sure you would have much success with a 60cm dish, I'd imagine you would have to change one dish to 80cm if you want 2 LNBs. I could be wrong.

So I'm thinking of going for:

13, 19, 26, 28 and 39. Am I making the right choice for films and sport do ye reckon?

Is it possible to put 5 on a 1.1 dish?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17 satellitetv

What no one has mentioned above is what they are picking up on each satellite, its one thing picking up the satellite signal but receiving all that is possible is a totally different thing.

On a triax TD110 or a Technomate TM100S, you will get 13, 19, 23.5 and 28.2 easy enough,,,26 east is so weak you need the satellite dish pointed directly at it, 39east is too far east with the above setup for a fixed dish with a triax lnb rail.

I suggest you motorised a 1m or 1.1m satellite dish and then all satellites will be possible apart from nordic beams and nilesat 7 west, once its set up properly you should be able to sweep from 53east along the clarke belt to 45 west and have a good strong signal from all satellites.

All that is possible is subjective.

Nobody is looking for everything, ie not all beams are available on every satellite, or may be required in any event.

42E/39E sweep to 19E (or 13e if 42 isnt required) is possible with a Triax bracket on a TD88. I know this because that is my current setup. Obviously you would need a modded and longer bracket than the standard Triax bracket on anything bigger than a TD88.

IMO MBC on 26 can not be beaten for movies and TV shows (as long as you dont mind Arabic sub-titles which I dont)

13 is good for Sport if you have a Cyfra card

19 - ATM Sport 19 are showing FA Cup FTA

    28 - goes without saying :)

    39 - as STB says

But if I remember correctly, its not possible to get 39 and 13 at the same time, the offset is too much - perhaps the more experienced/knowledgeable can advise here

    My current set-up is 28, 26, 19, 16, 13 and 7. But Im only pulling in 30 stations on 16 and only a handful on 7

But my plan is to get 39, 28, 26, 23, 19 and 16 and put up 13 on another dish.

So Yes its possible to 5 on a single dish.

As i said above you will not get 26east unless your satellite dish is looking directly at it, signal is just too weak, 39, 28 will be strong, 26 no chance, 23 will be weak, 19 will be strong and 16 will be weak.

You simply cannot beat a diseqc motorised dish.

Dont understand the relevance of your post to mine, why are you quoting me?

A motorised dish is fine but then you have to watch the same programme on each STB that you have, but a fixed dish with a Diseqc switch, well then each STB can watch different programmes at the same time - so it all depends what your needs are.

Confusing myself at this stage, maybe I should just be looking at:

    28, 26, 19 and 13, keep it a bit simpler.

Would I be able to pick up the other 3 if I had dish pointed at 26? Or should I point at another?

A motorized dish is not an option for me.

23.5 is very strong here, not weak.

    28, 26, 19 and 13 is 100% possible - and yes, the prime focus is 26
