Bartholins Cyst Experiences

Hi ladies I'm just curious to hear from any of you that have experienced this horrid infection, not looking for advice just interested in the experiences of others !

I had my first cyst 4 years ago and ended up (with the help of the internet )diagnosing it myself !! ( Dr had to look it up and Gynea A&E diagnosed Perinneal cyst )

After a week of pain so bad I needed Morphine and the cyst growing to about the size of a bar of soap I applied honey to the little spot inside and over night it burst ( possibly coincidence ) ... sheer bliss ensued but unfortuately I was left with a Granuloma ( small bump/growth ) on site of rupture which over the past 4 years caused me nothing but pain and discomfort.

I was convinced part of what was happening was down to my Polycystic ovary and lack of oestrogen so I begged my GP to allow me take the pill for 3 months !

Sure enough not one infection in those 3 months and part of the granuloma fell off !

My new Gynea finally agreed last October to try to remove what was left and to insert the Mirena coil.

Then low and behold the Granuloma fell off over x-mas !

Week before last I started to get the familiar UTI feeling so went straight to GP got anitbiotcs and phoned hospital to see where I was on the list ( I still had to have it checked and have coil fitted under GA due to narrow pubic arch )

They said I was next so I figured Id be in over next two weeks. I took the antibiotics and it seemed to clear up.
Last tuesday, day after the course finished, I started to feel that burning again.

Wednesday night within an hour an half I went from being perfectly fine to being in agony. My whole body was aching like really really bad flu, everything hurt to touch, I was convinced it was a virus until I noticed pain in the site of my last cyst. I made the decision there and then to go to GP next morning as I couldn't go through a week of pain again.

Over night I went from bad to worse, temp soared, vomiting.

By the time I got to GP in the morning my pulse was weak and fast and my body was going into Toxic shock !

I was sent straight to A&E pumped full of Antibiotics and admitted for emergency surgery to excise the cyst ( they performed marsupilisation ) and put the coil in while they were there !

I felt better almost immediately !

It's been 6 days since the surgery and everything seems to be healing ok not a lot of 'pain' but a lot of discomfort. :( My stitches feel like bits of wire digging into my poor sensitive flesh and walking makes them Rub :(

Just wondering how long it took anyone else to recover ?

when I was discharged they just said Id get a follow up appointment in 6 weeks. Never said how long stitches would take to dissolve etc.

I'm wondering if my practice nurse could have a look at them and maybe trim the ends or something.

sorry for such a long winded story and thanks for reading !

again, not looking for any advice, jut to hear from others who have been through this as its not talked about a lot !

I don't have experience of Bartholins Cysts, but I had stitches after my son's birth and I found the diposable underpants much more comfortable to wear rather than normal underpants.

My stitches dissolved after 15 days, if I remember correctly.

    Thanks Ivy !

I actually ended up going back to Dr this morning as there was some yellow discharge and I was worried about infection.

Instead he whipped the stitches out altogether ... and it turns out they weren't dissolvable at all !!!!

although know it isnt sympathy/pity are after and certainly woudnt disrespect by giving that-it sounds like have been through a lot;being honest it sounds bloody awful, especialy if they have been saying one thing [ie,the so called disposeable stitches] and doing another.

have had a problem with cysts on the outer area for years,in own case its caused by the anti epileptic medication am on but luckily they come in phases.
these cysts are absolute agony; the relief when the pus comes out-there is no word for it,its the ultimate relief.

hope it heals soon OP,just the thought of having stitches removed, makes it feel like someone scratching their finger nails down a black board. :D

well scruffles you absolutely have my sympathy because it's one of the most bloody awful things for a woman to go through EVER ... 3 weeks post op and suddenly have pain in incision site :( think its just the healing process ...

Feeling a lot better in myself which has ironically made me realise I should have just rested the first week and half instead of feeling like I was being lazy, cos I can now see my body was genuinely wrecked !! isn't hindsight wonderful ?
