What an absolute dump. Filthy toilets, dirty and torn seats, and full of weirdo's .......... It's gonna be missed.

We should defend our way of life to an extent that any attempt on it is crushed, so that any adversary will never make such an attempt in the future.

Heard Martello bought it and it's gonna be a type of Johnnie Fox's pub.

Good riddance, the arseholes that ran it barred people for no good reason and drove away many loyal customers in their time. Not to mention Colin the Creep.

We had some good times Harbour, but they were few and far between...

It's sad that all pubs are so generic though, the one thing I loved about it was it's unique look, not gonna find the like of it again.

I thought the sarcasm in my post would have picked up easily deco, but apparently not. I spent many a night there, band played there on many occasions, and yes, I was one of the weirdo's there. So I know plenty of what I'm talkin about in relation to it.

Mmm…will be missed, drank there as a teen and throughout my adult life. Played there umpteen times with many different bands and scored with the odd lady. It was an acquired taste with its own distinctive charm which no other pub in Bray could/can match.

Showcased some brilliant and not so brilliant bands, but at least they took a chance unlike the monotonous drivel spilling out from down the road. I’ve been a regular for 20 years and never saw much agro in that time, barred once but Paul wouldn’t stay angry for long. It’s a sad day as there won’t be another pub like it in this town again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,331 ✭✭✭SparkySpitfire

Was my favourite boozer from about 85 to late 90s or so - whenerevr they put on the conservatory at the front. 3 or even 4radically different crowds in the various sections - you dont see that in many pubs that I'm aware of these days.

Stopped going there finally because could no longer stand the pure filth of the floor surfaces to be honest. Felt like you were walking around in treacle a lot of the time.

I heard that too, Fish restaurant to the Duggans FTW. Was down there recently, and they said no papers have been signed so nothing is concrete. There is stilll hope. or despair. Depends how you view the Harbour Bar. I will miss it.

What makes them think a fish restaurant will work? Doesn't the Barracuda have a lot of fish on its menu? If anything they should try keep it as a pub with the same clientele. Most people who drank there would never even be allowed pass the golden  threshold of the Martello/Porterhouse. At least you knew when going to the harbour you wouldn't have to deal with posh scumbags.

yeah the duggans bought it - i heard they were turning it into a fish restaurant?

I'll believe all the "I heard...." rumours when they happen ;-)

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Was down there last night for a couple of pints. The bar was busy enough and didn't seem as if the lads looked like they were going anywhere!

It would be terrible for the Harbour Bar to be sold. The only decent pub in Bray. The rest of them are boring, stale, soulless ****holes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 186 ✭✭That username is already in use.

The Harbour Bar closed its doors for good last Monday evening. End of an era.

Anyone know how much the O'Tooles sold it for? (or take a wild guess)

Really interested to see what the Duggens do with it. I hope they don't butcher the interior. Was all the paraphernalia included in the price? :D

As far as I have heard there'll be a seafood restaurant upstairs and the bar remains as it was downstairs.

Well, I for one like what they have done with the Ocean/Platform. Nice pizza and salads, craft beer and very keen prices on the kids menus and a well though out interior etc. I do not think any revamp on the Harbour bar will be in the same vein (different product I imagine) but there was a lot of thought put into it.

In fairness, Bray Seafront has come on a bit with Duggans investments in the pubs along the road. Perhaps they might smarten up that corner a little bit without ruining it (I hope).

Toilets are a disgrace, always have been. Upholster, rip the carpets out, get decent benches for outside and heaters. The place is a goldmine in the right hands, hope they will still allow bands to feature.

They'll be doing a bit more than that!

I see on facebook the keys were handed over yesterday and they are already painting the place. No longer lurid blue.

Mr Duggan said: “We understand that we are not just buying a business but an institution. People can rest assured that we will be keeping what makes the Harbour special.”
