Claidhbh O'Gibne of the Boyne currach centre will make his first visit to Northern Ireland to give an illustrated talk on the Newgrange currach project. This is a 36ft sea going leather and hazelwood curragh in which Claidhbh aims to retrace the migration routes of Ireland's ancient peoples from mainland Europe. He will also have samples of his currach craftsmanship on display and signed copies of his book 'The Boyne Currach' for sale. A smaller version of this currach was featured in the RTE documentary Blood of the Irish a few years ago. Claidhbh also makes the small river curraghs on the Boyne river in Co. Meath. For anyone interested in the maritime history of our island people this is an event not to be missed.
