Independent, enthusiastic auto electrician, Dublin?

    Hi folks,
I've been using an auto electrician the last 3/4 years and found him very good but he's since moved a good treck away and isn't as available anymore, infact he's left this job unfinished and I've wires that need tidying up and the actual purpose of the job to be met.

Any suggestions on an independent, enthusiastic auto electrician who is gadget mad, knows their voltages and amp ratings and how they react with alternators, car betteries and all that stuff, as well as being able to drive to a job in South Dublin with a full toolkit for putting wires from engine bays inside and whatever else is needed, while still being affordable and reliable and an expert in what they are doing?

    Any suggestions welcome!

If you have good personal experiences with him, why not post his name / number? Small businesses need all the help they can get and there's no better advertising than word of mouth / personal recommendations :)

I think it's frowned on to do so on Boards.

    Is it ?

I've a great guy , used by myself and plenty of garages.

Works 99% mobile Based in citywest area but covers a lot of south dublin. Works on my M5 when needed, the rangerover too and anything else I've asked him to do.

Great work with no problems. Would love to give him a plug here

    And no its not me.

I'll PM those who requested the info earlier and if the mods allow I'll post

Thanks for the PM's guys! That little bump helped anyway, got 3 PM's as opposed to none with the OP and 2nd bump :D

I'm pretty sure the rules back on boards when I joined is that you could suggest somebody if it was asked for, I've done it myself many times and have seen my own services recommended too. That's what's so great about boards that everything is out in the open. I hope that hasn't changed?

It's different of course if the person doesn't want to be actively recommended on a public forum, maybe they have another full time job or for whatever reason in which case posting a name and mobile number wouldn't be too cool.

    No, it's not :)

As long as it is very clear you are not shilling your own business, or spamming someone's thread with unwanted ads / advice, etc.

A genuine personal recommendation when someone asks for one is fine!

Indeed. But believe me, most small business owners would be delighted, you'd know that yourself :)

If the person would get annoyed, a forum mod could quickly and quietly delete any personal info / posts if they so requested it...

    No its not?
I've both recommended indie mechanics and sought advice on garages/tyre centers/valets.

As long as you're not associated in any way other than being a customer how can that be frowned on??

Edit - lots of folks got there before me! I'm tired...

So I got 3 PM's and called them in the order I received the PM's in, Esel's chap was 1st and even though Esel mentioned he doesn't do it anymore, I thought I'd call given I wanted a few things done and it may have been worth his while calling out to me, no luck, he said if I've trouble getting sorted to give him a call back and he could recommend someone though.

    Next was Discodavie's..

Rang him up and he said he could do it, I explained the situation and straight away I could tell he knew what he was talking about, he even explained that Transits required something additional for what I was after and was maybe why the previous solution didn't work, this was also great to hear. Made a booking which he had to cancel due to a few other projects taking longer than expected, no problem for me, he gave me notice and we rearranged and he showed up as expected today.

Very clean and professional work. He's in a sign written jeep displaying audio and alarm installation and has a boot full of cables and tools so had everything he needed. I thought he said €50 per hour over the phone but it turned out to be €60+VAT and he charged the full 4 hours when it was less than 3.5 so worked out a bit more expensive than expected but the job was done right. He also discovered an issue which is the probable cause of extra drain on one of my batteries which is cool. He cleaned up all the loose and trailing wires from previous work I had done too :)

    Never tried the 3rd guy!

Glad to hear he sorted ya out cormie.

Never said he was cheap, I said he was good. He did a few tricky jobs on my m5 and theyre a pig to add in non manufacturer stuff on but he did it and did it right. Used him for loads of bits over the last few years and only had to go back to him for the next job and the next and the next..........

Yeah thanks again for the contact, was hard to find someone to do it so just glad it's done properly now and I'll have someone I know is good on hand now for any future work too :) He remembered you and your m5 :D

Sad to report things didn't exactly work out in the end on this. The job ended up causing a fire hazard and after a long time having the set up disconnected trying to come up with a solution, I've ended up out of pocket the money I paid and having to employ another auto electrician to fix the issue.
