Data Plan using huge amount of data

    My wife recently got a HTC Chacha (first smartphone) and changed over to Tesco Mobile with a 50MB/month data plan.

    She keeps the Wifi on the phone switched on all the time so when she is on the house it can be used for whatsapp. As soon as she leaves the house, her online records of usage shows huge amounts of data usage at the very minute she walks away from the house and goes out of range of the wifi.

    It could be anywhere from 300MB up to 3GB at times. And she would only send a few texts thro whatsapp while in the house.

    Has anybody seen this kind of pattern of huge data usage on their data plans or any idea what it could be? I've checked her phone and stopped all apps running that would possibly consume data maybe
