Not sure how well known or long this has been going on but Argos have Pikmin for €33 and Wonderful 101 for €36. Not stellar prices, especially if you just missed out on Pikmin in the Nintendo Store accidental flash sale because you order W101 as a test before posting the bargain on Boards (Bitter? Me???) , or if say you didn't get Pikmin for €25 because Gamestop refuse to stock more than one game per price bracket in any single store during their sale, but it's better than a kick in the face. Marginally

    Pikmin 3
    Wonderful 101

NSMB Wii U is coming up for a fiver on Tesco.ie! Tempted to order it and a few 3DS games but I know it wouldn't arrive.

They'll call you if it's not in stock before it's due for delivery. :<

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 64 ✭✭thehappyworm

Went mad buying a bunch of those €5 games on Tesco.ie last night. Lady from Clare Hall just rang to say the games weren't going to be delivered and they were pulling the listings from the website. Except she put it more nicely :)

Probably for the best. Most of the games, I already owned. Thought I might be able to swap 'em, or give them to a hypothetical friend-who-just-bought-a-3DS. Oh well!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,485 ✭✭✭✭Banjo

Same happened to me. They called me 45 minutes into my collection window to let me know. I'm disappointed that I didn't get any of them, but it was hardly unexpected. The things that bug me on the Tesco front are
    • that they did a stock check when I ordered the games and dropped a couple of items from my basket but kept the rest
    • that they then marked my orders as Collected after calling to cancel.
    • and that they informed me, as if it was a concession on their part, that I would not be charged.
That makes me sound like a satisfied customer, and like their website is adequate, and like I should be grateful, or somehow apologetic for putting them out.

Ah sure I got my Pokemon Mystery Dungeon and Lego Batman, I shouldn't moan...

I did a quick scan of a skip of games in my local tesco last night. Multiple copies of Nintendoland for €5(which is bizarre, because otherwise the store doesn't give shelf space to WiiU titles) a scattering of 3DS and Wii stuff.

I was half finished and i thought i'd just have one look in case there was something half playable for the Wii. A woman had five copies of Nintendoland in her mits and was flinging all the 3ds/DS stuff into her trolley. I backed off. I guess Cex will have a glut of the relevant titles soon enough.

Ha! Yeah, the person who rang me said the same: "We're not going to charge you for this transaction," in the tone of voice one might use if one was giving a customer a free box of cupcakes. Held my tongue! :D

Hey guys sorry if this is in the wrong place but do any of you know where my best bet is for picking up a Gameboy Colour? I am looking to pick one up again just for the Pokemon Red, Super Mario Bros, Tetris etc., anyone seen any in shops anywhere? Had a look on Adverts and eBay but I'm kind of looking to pay ~€20? Any bargain alerts for me?

Off topic I know, but any classic games I should get too?

RAGE on Fade St in Dublin will sell one at a premium. Cash Encounters on Talbot St may have one, as they've a bit of GB gear. Super Hoshi in The Twisted Pepper on Abbey St sell retro gear, as do 3D Games on the quay. If it's a nostalgia thing, that's your business, but if you want a fuller roster of titles, I'd go with a Gameboy Advance SP. It's frontlit (unless it's an AGS-101, but few are that lucky), smaller, and it'll run all GB, GBC games, but you'll also have the whole GBA library to dip into too.

As for recommended games, Dragon Warrior Monsters is a better Pokemon game than the first couple of entries in the series. Anything with Wario on it is a boon too; Wario Land series is a gem.

Very generous of you to offer but I've a few bids in on ebay so will have my own soon enough.

Wow great info cheers for that. Great point on the Advance SP, I think the backlit thing could be a big issue actually. I had initially just wanted a Gameboy Colour because I think they are the best looking, but may have to see if I can source an SP.

I would get a GBA SP if I were you, it plays the entire Game boy library and it has a build in light so u can play it in poor lighting. You'll get one easier and for a similar price to a standard Game Boy Colour

    Shameless lift from HUKD
    http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/super-indie-connection-sale-wii-u-eshop-from-thursday-own-any-below-get-60-off-buy-1807488

note - Spin the Bottle is your cheapest entry point into the sale if you don't own one already.

Super Indie Connection Sale on WiiU eShop starting Thursday
Any Wii U owner who owns one of the five listed indie games in the sale will be able to buy the other four at 60% off. If you don't own any of the games you can buy one at full price, at which point the others will then be available at the lower price.

    Super Indie Connection Sale

Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams (Black Forest Games) - £5.19 (€5.99) until 13/02/14 if you already downloaded any of the other four titles. Regular price is £12.99 (€14.99)

Mighty Switch Force! Hyper Drive Edition (WayForward) - £3.59 (€3.99) until 13/02/14 if you already downloaded any of the other four titles. Regular price is £8.99 (€9.99)

BIT.TRIP Presents Runner 2 (Gaijin Games) - £3.99 (€4.79) until 13/02/14 if you already downloaded any of the other four titles. Regular price is £9.99 (€11.99)

Spin the Bottle: Bumpie's Party (KnapNok Games) - £2.39 (€2.79) until 13/02/14 if you already downloaded any of the other four titles. Regular price is £5.99 (€6.99)

Toki Tori 2 + (Two Tribes Publishing) - £5.19 (€5.99) until 13/02/14 if you already downloaded any of the other four titles. Regular price is £12.99 (€14.99)

    _____

    So : The maths
If you don't own any of them and want to buy them all, you can save €31.20 by buying Spin The Bottle first.

If you plan on buying only one, you can save €2 on Gianna Sisters and Toki Tori 2 full price if you buy Spin The Bottle first, plus you get a free game. Mighty Switch Force costs you €1 more than buying it full price that way and Bit Trip only saves 21c

If, like me, you have your eye on Gianna Sisters and Bit Trip Runner but aren't arsed about the rest (have MSF on 3DS already), you can save €9.21 if you buy Spin The Bottle first (€17.77, worth about 140 points, Premium Packers!)
    ___

    Edit!
Even more good eShop News! And stolen even more shamelessly from HUKD!

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate - Wii U and 3DS eShop sale

    http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/monster-hunter-3-ultimate-wii-u-29-99-3ds-23-99-eshop-sale-1807512

Now that Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate has been announced exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS for 2015, it appears that Capcom wants to capitalise on Monster Hunter interest with a sale until February 6.

    Wii U - Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (Capcom) - €35.99/£29.99 (Ends February 6, normally €59.99/£49.99

    3DS - Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (Capcom) - €26.99/£23.99 (Ends February 6, normally €44.99/£39.99)
    ___
this is a better deal than it looks for such an old game. Retail this will set you back €40-50 easy, the only price drop it's ever had was on the eShop last year.

Also, in case you're thinking "ah, sure I'll wait for MH4" - it's not coming west till 2015 and it's 3DS only!

    Caveats :
The WiiU game is not significantly prettier than the 3DS version, and is less portable. Supports Off-TV play though (at the expense of the configurable buttons / maps that can save your life during a long hunt)
The 3DS version apparently looks much better on the 3DS XL.
Circle Pad Pro is a must on 3DS, in my opinion.

More Wii U shopping on your mind?

Amazon have Lego Marvel Superheroes for WiiU sitting on £34.99
Not a steal, but it's been sitting up on £41-44 for a while and it seems to be hard to get elsewhere.

No, it's not the Iron Patriot minifig edition. Hey, War Machine was cooler...

Zavvi have Arkham Origins for €24.99 with DLC (Deathstroke?)

    Hey guys!
Just wondering does anyone know where I'd pick up Rayman Legends and Super Luigi (both for the Wii U) for fairly cheap in Dublin/Sligo town?
I had ordered them both off Gamestop online last week (totalling at only 51euro!) but got an email today saying they're out of stock..
    Thanks!:)

Not quite a bargain alert, but does anyone know of a better bricks n mortar price for the 3dsxl Link between Worlds bundle than the E240 Gamestop are offering? Have a couple of flights and bus rides coming up soon...

There's a site mentioned a lot today on hukd for game deals, VideoGameBox.co.UK : some very good prices and 15% off in january (Google the code yerself!). However, no ones really used them before so no idea if they can be trusted. Anyway, preamble done :

    Injustice for £8.95

Very tempted. But already told myself no new games at the moment. Plus with super smash bros on the way at some point do I need another fighting game ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,485 ✭✭✭✭Banjo

Smash Bros is a different kind of game... this is good old fashioned punching-in-the-face action, with occasional kicking through a building or smashing a bin on the head asides. The plot is - once you accept the super-human powers, parallel dimensions, doppelgangers, crazy pseudo-science and the terrible (well, relative to Arkham Asylum) Joker voice over and scripting - pretty interesting stuff if you like your Elseworlds. Has a bit of a Kingdom Come vibe about it.

I'm rubbish at fighting games, and don't play professionally or anything. I cannot speak for the combo system or hit box accuracy or timing, but the fights feel pretty visceral, this is not a fun kablammo! Bosh! Smackeroo! fight, it's knives in an alley and knuckles through cartilage. The specials are good fun for the most part, and there's a kind of showdown system where you can bet a chunk of your special meter to hit harder / recover health - and when you kick it off, the two characters will normally say something relevant to their opponent. Looks great and if timed right can turn the flow of the game. There's an issue with DLC though, I don't think it's available in Ireland, you may have to create an account on your WiiU with UK as it's region, then connect to the eShop. Haven't tried that yet. But would be worth it for Lobo and Scorpion from MK :)

For that price, I'd say give it a go. You can always flip it for a good chunk of what you paid.
    CEX buy for €11

Edit - with one Caveat - an enterprising sort on HUKD looked up VideoGameBox.co.uk's returns address. You can see it here :
    http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/tomb-raider-definitive-edition-xbox-one-29-71-videogamebox-using-code-below-1807517
It appears to be a recycling bin in front of a gateway to The Land of the Lost.

EDIT 2 - As Druss points out on the next page, shipping to ireland is prohibitive. You could fly there Ryanair for that kind of money! Parcel Motel it if you're using them. Druss, you Legend!

Damn you and your persuasiveness! I was almost in for this and Pikmin 3. However they charge another £12 for postage to Ireland. You can get around that with Parcel Motel, but it still probably brings it out of bargain town,
