Really looking forward to this. Some cracking fights on this card.

Light Heavyweight Wanderlei Silva vs. Brian Stann
Heavyweight Mark Hunt vs. Stefan Struve
Lightweight Takanori Gomi vs. Diego Sanchez
Middleweight Yushin Okami vs. Hector Lombard
Featherweight Mizuto Hirota vs. Rani Yahya
Welterweight Dong Hyun Kim vs. Siyar Bahadurzada

    Preliminary Card
Middleweight Riki Fukuda vs. Brad Tavares
Bantamweight Takeya Mizugaki vs. Bryan Caraway
Lightweight Cristiano Marcello vs. Kazuki Tokudome
Bantamweight Alex Caceres vs. Kyung Ho Kang
Welterweight Marcelo Guimaraes vs. Hyun Gyu Lim

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UFC_on_Fuel_TV:_Silva_vs._Stann

Gomi vs. Sanchez should be a war and can't wait to see Mark Hunt make Struve go all wobbly. Stun gun vs Bahadurzada should be a good battle aswell.

Dong Hyun Kim is just so amazingly good at what he does. He has perfected his own style.

    Kinda dull though.

When Lombard kicked and Okami caught it, Okami's neck was sticking out a mile, a great target yet Lombard didn't see it. Big flaw in his game

Lombard is a pretty high level grappler I doubt he "didn't see" it. There's a huge amount of other factors here.

All in though, unimpressed by Hector. Never a split decision.

I had Gomi for a sure fire 29-28 win, those pesky judges.

Did you see what i was on about, was in the first minute of the fight, he caught his leg and his neck was just sticking out for a second or 2, would have been so easy to latch on but didn't even attempt

A night of terrible judging. And a terrible performance by Struve. Not to take away from Hunt but IMO Struve was sloppy and careless during the first round.

    Yep, Struve looked totally amateur.

He barely used his size and reach advantage. It's as if he had no plan for the fight. Weird!

Hunt is awesome, and his interviews are so awful :D

"Mark, I gotta ask, you got an improved ground game, seemed like you were more than willing to go to the grond with Stefan Struve here tonight"
    "....Yeah...."
    "So Mark can you.."

I'm thrilled for Silva but pretty disappointed for Stann, I wouldn't be surprised if he retires soon enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 637 ✭✭✭pauldoo

Great stuff from Wandy, i was going to put money on stann winning by KO but the odds were awful. didnt see wandi doing considering his chin is so bad these days but glad he did. that bit were he waved stann on and then clocked him was brilliant.

Struve was a joke, never uses his size to his advantage, didnt seem to bothered in this fight.

Yeah the stun gun is very dull to watch, doesnt have the exciting ground game some of the grapplers have.

Maybe Hendo v Wandy is up next!! In Japan, im sure it would be a big seller

I recorded it on UPC because I hate the ads on the Fox/Fuel cards but the f**king thing stopped half way through the Struve vs Hunt fight

I've just read that the last two fights were pretty epic too so fairly gutted with missing them.

By the way Gomi was absolutely robbed against Sanchez. How can somebody that controlled the fight, pushed the pace, stuffed most take down attempts and out strike his opponent lose a decision?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,830 ✭✭✭Be like Nutella

haha same thing happened me... nearly punched the telly.

just got a torrent on KAT.

Delighted for Hunt and Wandy... both warriors. Stann is a very brave fighter, feel bad for him could be the end. He's so tough and does some things well but he's all about landing lucky punches during flurries.

Hope Wandy retires now if he has enough money put away which I'd guess he does. Go out with a win and on a buzz in Japan where the legend began. Don't want to see him get out-gassed and killed in a couple of fights against younger better guys.

22 Pride wins and 5 UFC wins is amazing. Hope he hangs up the gloves after this.

Anyone else's Sky+ cut out at the start of the 3rd Round of Hunt vs Struve?
Missed the Main Event and the end of that fight.

I stayed up til 3am watching it but had it set up to record also. I realised that the event was going to run past the end of the recording so stopped it and set it to record until 6:30am, just to be sure. Just watched the last few fights there & it stopped recording just as Hunt/Struve finished. So much for technology making life easy!! :pac:

It's being shown again on ESPN on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. I think it starts around 11:30pm Tuesday.

I just think Struve totally looked past Hunt. He talked a lot of crap during the week about how he was going to finish him in the first round and felt that he should be a top contender if he did.

He could and should have submitted Hunt in the first but he was terribly careless. Then Hunt started lighting him up in the second and he just lost himself.

Hunt is a bit of a legend after his 6 or 7 fight losing streak, then coming into the UFC and finding himself on a big winning streak but let's be honest, he's never going to be a champion. He's a fun fighter though, wouldn't mind seeing him fight someone like Nelson.

Never thought I'd admit it but I was feeling rather uncomfortable watching the knockouts of Struve and Stann.

They were too brutal. And Dana going ape****e about them on Twitter.

The last round of Struve/Hunt looked it was in slow-motion. Hardly what you'd consider two supreme gladiators fighting in the pinnacle of combat sports.

And the Stann/Wandi match was a blood sport. They just seemed to agree to keep punching each other until one got knocked out.

Where was the skill in either?

people were having a go off me last week about saying the Machida fight was FOTN but look at the guy - he's poetry in motion. Give me watching Machida dodging and counter-striking to that sort of barbarity any day.

    Hardly.

I just don't get any pleasure in watching knockouts like that.

    And Gomi was absolutely robbed.

Seems to be far too regular with Greg Jackson fighters.

With espn lately I started recording tge show after. The show was only 30 mins and caught the 1st round of wandy vs stann.
You think espn would cope on. Must start recording the next two shows after ufc.
